Juke-infused infectious rhythms and a retro, almost Robert Glasper-esque melodic aesthetic nodding to the eighties (Yamaha DX7 anyone?) marks the style of this Los Angeles-based producer's tunes. Plenty of producers today do a fine job of exploring polyrhythms, but few truly experiment with rhythmic 'feel.' A simple yet very effective example of Chadwick's nuanced understanding of this concept would be the switch from swung 12/8 to 4/4 feel at the 0:48 mark in "Dope"; his rhythmic knowledge is the mark of a real drummer. Dane puts his skills together in a unique context that is seldom found elsewhere, finding a sweet-spot between pure musicality, trend, convention, and experimentation: the soundtrack to a virtual tropical paradise where jazz is the native tongue.
