I got the idea for this piece on a sunny day a while ago after seeing a beetle in the park struggle to get across the hot tarmac path, just a silly visual to explore the question of how much we should be mindful of the wildlife we share a habitat with - they live here too!

I hate how people will look at popular indie artists who had one or two songs go viral on TikTok and start making fun of anybody who listens to them. "Oh you listen to Lemon Demon, Will Wood, Jack Stauber, Glass Animals, and Mother Mother? Tsk, don't you know that is stupid TikTok neurodivergent white transmasc preteen music? It's so mid and bad you should listen to real music–" you are a pit of misery

I'm fully aware that it's better read as a social commentary on how white privilege and minor differences in circumstances mean the the difference between ending up in an open-air prison and a penthouse, but I always found it extremely funny in Past Tense how Sisko and Bashir wake up in the street and immediately start yelling "This isn't Starfleet command! What happened to the 24th century!?" to these 20th century guards pointing guns at them, like zero situational awareness, and meanwhile Jadzia catches on instantly. Just the most competent one out of the 3 of them by far
