Psalms 62:1-2
I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.

Sometimes I'm reminded that in certain cultures it was considered normal to leave newborns with any sign of defect out in the wild so they would die of exposure and how when Christianity came to these cultures that was one of the biggest hurdles the people had to get over to accept Christ.
and on those same days I feel like humanity never quite got over those ideas.

I dont understand why you people don't care as much about other satirical takes on the last supper as at the Olympics
I haven't said anything about it
I don't watch the Olympics except for Suni and Simone

Maybe Jane Austen's real genius was that, unlike other authors at the time, she didn't have long sections where characters share their backstory. Or rather, when she did it, she set it up like a mystery so we'd want to know the backstory.
Instead of having a character be like, "Here's three chapters about my life," soon after showing up in the novel, she'd sprinkle little clues through the story that make us wonder, "What's Colonel Brandon's deal?" and then closer to the end of the story, Colonel Brandon would tell us what his deal was. We'd wonder "Why does Mr. Darcy do all those horrible things?" and then he'd give an explanation that includes a lot of backstory.
And these infodumps always come in response to significant moments of the story. She'd engage our minds and our emotions and then give us the infodump at a point when we care about the information it contains. Compared to some other authors (even some that came long after) it seems like a significant innovation.

so a lot of people in the notes of that pro-life post I made awhile back have been calling me anti-science (among other things) for claiming that fetuses can feel pain well before 20 weeks
I’m not going to address them directly because doing so would not change the fact that they still deny DNA proof of individual human life at conception, which was the point of that post
but I will address it here for y’all, because it’s important to know
The Charlotte Lozier Institute published this well-cited fact sheet about fetal pain, in which they say:
Embryological development shows presence of pain sensory mechanisms and neurophysiology. The basic anatomical organization of the human nervous system is established by 6 weeks. The earliest neurons in the cortical brain (the part responsible for thinking, memory, and other higher functions) are established starting at 6 weeks. Nerve synapses for spinal reflex are in place by 10 weeks. Sensory receptors for pain (nociception) develop first around the mouth at 7 weeks, and are present throughout the skin and mucosal surfaces by 20 weeks. Connections between the spinal cord and the thalamus (which functions in pain perception in fetuses as well as in adults) are relatively complete by 20 weeks.
I highly recommend reading the whole sheet
