“Natalie. Of course! In just a moment we’ll have your hair done and you’ll be ready to go to costume!”

Natalie nodded and kept her eyes closed. A second later, a thick mist covered her face as the makeup artist applied the setting spray. “We wouldn’t want your face to melt off on the stage,” she mused quietly, moving behind Natalie to tie her hair up.

Natalie’s knows twitched and she resisted the urge to itch at it. Don’t mess up the first step, don’t mess up...

“And ta-da! All ready to go!” The makeup artist exclaimed, prompting Natalie to open her eyes and look. It wasn’t glamorous like she dreamed it’d be, but it was a start. The makeup didn’t look half bad, anyway. She thanked the woman and moved to the next room, alternating between repeating her lines and repeating her slightly self-deprecating mantra.

“And she nailed it, of course! It was amazing to watch her perform in the flesh! Truly inspiring!”

“Wow! I can’t believe Judith Ward was here! Now I wish I hadn’t taken yesterday off.”

A small group of the makeup crew gossiped behind Natalie, gushing about the myth, the legend, Judith Ward. She tried not to let their words get to her nerves, but a few managed to kickstart the anxious thoughts she had caged up earlier. If the world’s biggest and brightest star was here on set yesterday, how was she suppose to impress these people on her very first gig?

“Now just hold still- eh, what was your name, again?” The woman doing her makeup gently brushed the side of Natalie’s face before squinting and leaning in.

She breathed a quiet sigh once she felt the brush leave her cheek and furrowed her eyes slightly. “Natalie.”
