As someone with a job that relates to applainces, its a lot worse than just needless boondoggles forced into stuff. These useless additions can cause problems too.

Essentially, the more parts/systems in a given appliance, the more things that can interact, and more importantly, break down. And with how poorly implimented a lot of these things are, they break down a lot. Because it turns out something relatively sensitive like a wireless reciever and a CPU can have issues next to things like a very hot oven coil or a steamy dishwasher. And sometimes when these things break, they affect the control and other functions of the unit, not just the wifi/AI stuff.

I've seen many a complaint phone call about someone no longer being able to use their stove, because it tried to download a software update, got interrupted, and now their entire stove won't turn on, and they're just not able to cook until a technician can get out there Thursday to reboot it (and you can't know how to reboot it yourself, because the process is proprietary and you'll violate your warranty and possibly be sued for damages by the company depending on the state you live in).

So yeah, if you can, get as little as these useless "add ons" to your appliances as possible for your own sake. Not even going into the security risks, they're just not well made and will end up costing you a lot in repairs.

That's fair... all I can really attest to is my personal experience with it. I did try to find a reptuable source to back up my specific claim, but didn't come up with anything particularly credible. However in my search I did find an article in a medical journal about accupuncture points that do assist with supprssing the gag reflex with some effectiveness. Something helpful and somewhat relevant to this discussion: surgery might not be needed: there's a handy and accessible accupressure point that suppresses the gag reflex. On the left hand, the segment of the thumb that has the fingernail on it: if you very firmly sqeueeze that segment, the gag reflex will be suppressed. I think how much it is suppressed depends on the individual's biology, but as someone with a fairly strong gag reflex who used this trick to deepthroat a banana for laughs, it can be effective. Hopefully this helps some while they look for more permanent solutions. And hopefuly adds to the discussion of the medical side of this, as the interplay of the nervous system is still so largely not understood.

Remember your infinite monkey theorem: (for those who may not have heard, its the idea that if you put a monkey in front of a typewriter, over an infinite amout of time it will have produced the works of Shakespeare out of pure randomness) If given enough time you would have eventually figured that thing out or beat that boss on super hard mode or done the thing without the cheats, then there's ultimately no harm in doing these time-savers because idk about you but I personally dont have infinite time. Listen, if a Bad President can come in and take away our rights and we're dependent on a Good President replacing them in four years to give us back our rights, then we do not have any rights.

If politicians can take or distribute them, then they're not "inalienable" and they're not "rights."

We don't have inalienable rights we have conditional privileges, divvied out according to the whims of whoever currently holds the reins.

And if we want to have actual rights, then we must build a system in which no one has the power to take them away to begin with.
