PENGUIN RESEARCH

Penguin Research is a 5-man Japanese rock band formed in 2015 under the management of ultraCeep. They debuted in 2016 under the Sony Music record label, SME Records, and was transferred to SACRA MUSIC on April 2017.

History The band was formed when Shota Horie was in search of artists whom he could work with and eventually found Yoji Ikuta, who was then doing covers of Horie's songs on the video sharing website, Nico Nico Douga. John Kanda joined afterwards while Keita Shinbo and Yosuke Shibazaki was recruited via held auditions. And thus, the 5-man band, Penguin Research, was born.

They released their first single, “Joker ni Yoroshiku,” on January 20, 2016 which marked their major debut and held their first one-man live, March 6th the same year. They proceeded to released their first mini album, “WILL,” on March 30th under ultraCeep, while their second and third singles, “Spotlight” and “Button,” were both released under SME Records in the same year; on June 8th and September 7th, consecutively.

On March 8, 2017, they released their first album titled “Haisha Fukkatsu Sen Jiyuugata”, and will continue to create music under the record label SACRA MUSIC from April onwards.

Composition and lyrics are done by Horie but everyone’s opinions are well taken into consideration. During recording sessions, Horie and Ikuta come together for another discussion to have full understanding of the music.
