KFP 4 Review
Kung Fu Panda 4 is certainly interesting; I think, ironically, the problem with this movie is fear of change. While it's true, the movie try to show changes by Po relinquishing the Dragon Warrior title, in truth there is no change whatsoever. Instead of using preexisting role like Grandmaster, they were so afraid of change that they invent a new title that is Spiritual Leader of Valley of Peace. If they really want to hammer down the point of change, they should make Po the grandmaster ie being in charge himself and not taking orders from Shifu. However, this would mean a change in the status quo; making Po the grandmaster of Jade Palace would mean either Shifu's retirement or his dead.
If you think that Po's changed at the end of the movie, think again; the structure of power in Jade Palace is practically the same. Shifu-> Po->Furious Five/Zhen. This is in direct contrast to the third movie, where Po, who is equal to the Furious Five, is forced to be put higher than that. For a movie that promotes a message of accepting change, it is quite unfortunate that the franchise is so afraid of change. I would like to call Po the character that Dreamworks doesn't allow to grow.
Anyway that's my take, I still enjoy the movie, at least when Po's dads show up. In order to commemorate Po's dads, I provide a link compiling all the interactions (shipping fuel) of Po's dads from the Paws of Destiny.
