The repeated dismissal of trans women's concerns and staunch refusal to admit to treating trans women differently from the rest of the userbase by @photomatt, as well as the repeated attempts to get this to stop spreading to try and get everyone to hush, has done nothing but cement my opinion that the transmisogyny and cruelty towards Avery was, in fact, a feature and not a bug. Not to say I wasn't convinced, anyways, but as someone who has been on Tumblr in some capacity for over a decade, I did try to hold out some hope that the staff could actually try to do right by their users. Matt's responses to this have completely shattered my trust in the ability of staff to not be transmisogynistic dickwads.

Making declarations of allyship to try and quell a userbase who is rightfully angry at the unequal standards applied to trans women over and over again is not the same as actually being an ally, and I'm appalled at how much Matt is trying to sweep this under the rug by disabling reblogs and replies.

What about the actual, literal Nazis who still skulk around this site? The TERFs that have run harassment campaign after harassment campaign? Hell, what about the other people making jokes about others dying in hyper-specific-yet-unlikely ways? Matt, if you're so insistent that it's a death threat, why haven't half the funnymen on this site been properly banned for that?

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?

An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:

I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.

Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.

A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)

So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

it almost goes without saying but for posterity's sake i want people to remember that during @photomatt's meltdown last night he dmed dozens and dozens of people (near exclusively trans women, For Some Inexplicable Reason), sometimes less than a Minute after they left a reply, responded to a post of his, or even just Made Their Own Post about it.

like. pure intimidation tactics at their most blatant and obvious. why else would you sit on your namesearch, refreshing and refreshing and Instantly jumping into our dms the second we participated in the conversation. that isn't normal, not for a ceo and not for like, Anyone Else for that matter.
