lot of ooc posts today sorry but shoutout to elijah who was born into a grieving household and didn’t have anything that made him particularly stand out in his family which had a hand in his parentification

finn was the oldest son which meant something to mikael for certain and seemed to be esther’s favorite based on how much she had to dote on him to get him to keep her secrets (highly unconvinced esther would have given him so much attention otherwise), klaus was the affair baby she had to keep an eye on, kol was the only kid who could do magic (canonically anyway) which had to worry esther because of dahlia, rebekah was the only girl, and henrik was the baby.

that left elijah in the wake of their grief over freya which wasn’t lifted in the slightest until klaus was born and then he just got bumped to big brother, the only one who wasn’t grieving and therefore the only one who took on the role of big brother to begin with. poor man never stood a chance.

actually let’s talk about it! so when klaus and rebekah are waking up, they’re obviously not sitting at the table and they’re kind of tossed away from each other? close, but not right next to each other. and in my opinion, at least, it would make sense mikael turned them last. rebekah wasn’t seen as a valid threat and klaus was the weakest of the sons (because of esther). kol had magic, which would make him a threat (to esther, at least), and finn was the oldest and strongest and probably posed the biggest threat to mikael.

so i’ve always thought the order was kol-finn-elijah-klaus-rebekah. kol and finn could switch but generally, that.

i also think it’s highly unlikely mikael actually stabbed all of them through the heart. the first one, maybe. even the second if mikael was quick about it (and considering he was already an original by this point, he probably was). but no way finn or elijah saw kol get murdered by their father and then didn’t try to jump up and stop him or fight him at all. maybe kol and finn died through a stab wound to the heart, but all of them? psh. finn and elijah probably died fighting their father. klaus died protecting rebekah. rebekah died after seeing klaus die in front of her. but they didn’t die from a stab wound to the heart, in my opinion, save for rebekah.

there’s certainly not a chance klaus wouldn’t try to protect rebekah or get her to run. even less of a chance elijah wouldn’t tell them to run. and it’s highly unlikely that he’d able to easily stab them in the heart when they’re fighting for their lives instead of just letting him do it. fully possible they got injured further than that or that he had to kill them in other ways.
