• JOHN G. BOEHME - LEGACY OF VAPORS

John G. Boehme’s empirical per formative explorations will be centered on: absence, loss, heritage, cultural and spiritual identification and community.  Channeling memories, histories, gestures & text from his father John L. Boehme  (1932-2018) “The name Boehme, reveals that the original bearer of the name once lived, held land, or was born in the historic kingdom of Bohemia, which was enclosed by mountains and the celebrated Bohemian forest part of the Czech Republic. Boehme included Jakob Boehme (b.1575 in Goerlitz, Silesia), who was a renowned German mystic.”

• JÉRÉMY BOCQUET - HOW DOES IT SOUND?

“How does it sound ?” is a performative composition which initiates an exchange between the artist, the audience and the space. The blueprint is interpreted as a score which is activated by the performer interacting with objects and a sound system. The performance reveals another way of perceiving architecture

• LUCIA BRICCO - ZERO

Every entity, whether object, person or situation, reaches the apex of self expression when it manifests the capacity to change in number. If I think of my body, for example, and imagine it divided into two parts or next to a multitude of selves, the quantity of everything it contains is infinitely more exposed. In this condition I find myself, as a person, unified with what surrounds me. A paradox whereby, in order to know oneself as one, one must consider oneself as a multitude. The performance “Zero” wants to activate a process in which the solitude and the moltitude live simultaneously.

• OLESIA ONYKIIENKO & ANNA KHVYL [NFNR & UNWAVEMENOT - BUBNY VOICES: concert edition

Bubny Voices project was born in 2020 as an artistic documentation of the Nádraží Bubny area in Prague, which is about to be destroyed. This year it will be developed into live audio-visual performance and installation based on field recordings collected around the Bubny railway station by local inhabitants in 2020 and new aural reflections artists get visiting Prague.

• ANDRIY HELYTOVYCH - PRINTS

Performance “Prints” - is a concept and a title proposed in advance as a theory of some art action - but will it happen and what title will it gain afterwards - this is the question which I address to everyone including myself.

• STIRNIMANN-STOJANOVIC - WE ARE CALLED

The piece “We are called” is a text-based performance by Zhao Chuan. Zhao Chuan (*1967 CHN) lives and works in Shanghai. As a director, author, and curator, Zhao Chuan stands for alternative and socially committed theatre. “We are called” was written in 2009 and performed in Chinese language since then by Zhao Chuan himself or delegated to other performers. In 2020, Zhao Chuan was in the impossibility to join the PARTOUT festival at Kaserne Basel – due to covid – and requested Stirnimann-Stojanovic to perform/transmit his piece (English premiered). A further version of this piece will be presented at “Performance Crossings 2021”: the collaboration continues.

• ALEKS SLOTA - ASPHYXIATING ANXIETY

In the corridors of studio ALTA Aleks Slota will engage with his voice on the basic level of the intake and expulsion of air. Various breathing techniques will become the starting point of a sound and body performance exploring the trauma of panic attacks and social anxiety. Aleks will investigate how different body shapes define the breath and thus how the breath defines the voice.

Officiating a ritual of annual celebration marking another heliocentric orbit; a solemnisation of rising glass, liquid, song, opening and closing. Constructing cups of kindness, old acquaintance forgotten, never brought to mind. Every year commemorates the previous one, every moment gone. Safeguarding the predicament of demonstrative tidy up — today, tomorrow and bloody yesterday[s]. Get up. Chorus…and rest… and rest… for the yearly HAPPY resurrection.

• LEENA KELA - TEMPTATION OF DESTRUCTION

The performance Temptation for Destruction deals with the complexity of the global climate crisis and its disasters. It plays with our urge to act and on the other hand not to do anything. How many different scenes of destruction can you imagine? The performance is based on Leena Kela’s artistic research on how to write with a performance.

• MICHIYASU FURUTANI - GOING ABANDONED ANYWAY

Today, we, a single species among the many, keep producing massive amounts of waste, impacting other organisms and our own environment. To begin with, the concept of waste is unique in the natural environment, where various factors are intricately intertwined and may be considered a concept only for humans. In the biosphere, which is based on material circulation, there is practically nothing unnecessary. In this presentation, the human body with its dynamics explores the act of possession and value among wastes imported to the space of Studio Alta.

• KEVIN SENANT - GILLES WELL’S ADVENTURES CHAPTER 3

Video-sound performance which emerges as a results of the investigation made in Prague. During this performance, we follow, in a subjective manner, the travels of an amateur magician on his computer.The action crystallizes around an attempt, explained, dreamed, and interpreted, of the "Vanishing Trick", a magic trick of making someone disappear from a physical space.

• ALESIA YAKUBOUSKAYA - HOW TO TIME THE DISTANCE OF BREATH

In this work Alesia is exploring such simple element of life as breath. Though blowing inflatable objects, with microphones and headphones for amplifying the experience we are observing how much time and space would take our breath. And then by connecting clay-made flutes, it is blended, materialised and exhaled by pressing, touching and playing objects, that create a flute-crying sound space.

• MARIA KOMAROVA - 555 BUGS

In 555 bugs, Maria uses found objects and diy electronic devices to create a landscape where elementary objects find new meanings in spontaneous connections between each other. Objects become something else, specific sonic creatures with their own qualities. The seeming primitivity and repetitiveness of the soundscape brings the listener into a world of menthol buzzers, one-eye sirens, lemon tadpoles, ginger tigers, plastic bugs and other insects. The project was developed during Maria’s internship and research-residency in Overtoon, Brussels.

Audiovisual performance ZEVNITŘ - FROM THE INSIDE - is a challanging project, in which many artists across the cultural sphere take part, was created on the basis of last year's events, which started a chain of changes in our lives.

▎Performance Crossings 2021 is the fifth edition of an international festival of performance art.

••• 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒 2021  International is the result of more than a year and a half of collaboration between a curatorial team and a dozen artists from Ukraine, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Ireland and other countries. This cooperation is framed by the coexistence of the most fundamental moments of the pandemic situation as well as by the search for alternative ways of artistic (re)presentation at a distance. The whole process and theoretical reflection of the year 2020 is archived in the festival publication REMOTE PERFORMANCE ART.

Gilles Well's Adventures Chapter 3

Video-sound Performance / presentation of the results of the investigation made in Prague.

Kevin Senant (1985) was born in Rueil-Malmaison. He currently works between Marseille and Brussels. His exploration of image and narration is marked by cinema, as much as it is by computer science, and internet communication systems. Since 2019, Kevin has been investigating the disappearance of Gilles Well, his former assistant who disappeared during a magic trick presumably poorly performed by the artist.

Maria Komarova is an intermedia artist originally from Belarus, who engages mainly in the field of postdramatic theatre, expanded scenography, sound and visual arts. She focuses her artistic practice on the exploration of the agency of objects, various inanimate entities and discovery of ways of their interaction. Maria is one of founders of theatre group PYL, festival Performensk and a music band kaine anung.

Paul Regan [b. Dublin 1970] works with the subjects of ritual, faith, religion. Coming from a background in painting, his recent projects utilise live performance to explore actions in compulsion and restraint, cultural misappropriations, invocations and profane devotions. Aleks Slota (b. 1978, PL, based in Berlin, DE) is a multidisciplinary artist working primarily in the mediums of performance and sound art. Born in 1989 in Lviv, Ukraine. He graduated from Lviv College of Decorative and Applied Arts and the Lviv National Academy of Arts where he studied painting. He has been performing since 2015. In 2017, he did an internship at the Labirynt Gallery (Lublin, Poland) as part of the Gaude Polonia scholarship program. Co-founder of the performance project Zabih (2017). He has participated in a number of performance festivals both in Ukraine and abroad.
