Power on Parade at Mill Meece
For so long, this room was a maelstrom of power—a rhythmic, tireless, metallic ballet. The Mill Meece pump engines. Look at them now, bathed in the soft light from those high windows.

Shugborough's Squadrons
Grab a bit of grass, find a nice spot. It's a beautiful August day here in the Shugborough walled garden. The sun is warm, the air smells of something vaguely earthy, and I’ve been stood here, pretending to be a profound observer of nature, but mostly just getting distracted by the sheer chaos of it all.

Bakewell sometimes seems a town built on a dessert. The Bakewell Pudding originated here back in the 1800s and it has never gone away.
Every bakery and cafe advertises them and there is hardly a street where they are not sold. It seems there’s money in culinary mistakes.
At this stage you may be asking two questions
Mistake? and Pudding?

Ding, Ding All Aboard
The clue is in the name. Black Country LIVING Museum. Life and movement make this museum stand out. Hands on exhibits, costumed characters but, conspicuously, transport, the buses roaring around the streets, even the regular pony and trap rattling along.
This is not a transport museum, but it seems to have stepped back from its most evocative and green transportation.
It’s such a shame that the resident trolleybuses haven’t run for months and there is no current estimate of when the trams will be rattling through the museum once more.
Volunteers tell me they are ‘not a priority’ for the management. I suggest they should be as the place isn’t as interesting or exciting without them.

Dudmaston's autumn colours
Drive westwards from the urban edges of the Black Country and, just over the hill, through a narrow stretch of Staffordshire you find Dudmaston Hall in the rolling hills of Shropshire.
The National Trust estate is known for its stunning gardens and parkland and, in Autumn, they became special.
The leaves on the trees turn shades of red, orange, and gold, and the design and planting come into their year-end splendour.

Years of Life
You often hear older people dismissed. Boomers is one label. Out of touch another and, of course we cannot understand the troubles that beset today’s families.
A new series of short documentaries about the lives of your grannies and grandads has attracted a lot of attention.
They have been given a world premiere in the small English market town of Stafford and to a global audience on YouTube.
They tell stories of war, of violence, of crime and redemption, of politics and resilience in the face of disability. They show your grandparents dared more, and did more, than you can imagine.
See for yourself how they played their part in history. Check out the Years of Life playlist on the YouTube channel of PeterUnderwoodProductions

Summer Ends in the Walled Garden
In Shugborough’s walled garden, summer is taking its leave. As the russet hues of autumn begin to show themselves and the blooms of summer gently fade. The sun’s song, is now a soft and soothing tune, and the damp scent of earth speaks of apples ripe and mingles with the crispness of anticipated autumn’s breeze.

Attingham on Tern
The Tern is a great part of the charm of Attingham and the estate’s landscaping transforms an otherwise unremarkable stream into a glittering feature, reflecting and defining the woods, the paths and fields on both banks
The river is a never-ending source of movement and ever-changing reflections.
