This Gif was for CIO and the wonderful SooJin Buzelli on the topic of Russian oil. The motion took some tinkering - the lead image is kinda the “middle ground” of where we started and ended - the first version had the hand entering and exiting, and the trip happening somewhat fast - the last version has the oil can stationary, continuously dropping oil a bit slower - i think the slower oil nails it - but i do like the slight movement of the hand - It was nice to go back and forth with SooJin about that part - she made it really easy.
Im also attaching some roughs - I LOVED the idea of an oil pump doubling as a hammer and cycle and tried to sell that (in the end, She went for the right piece - much more interesting and not so one dimensional) but the visual overlap felt like the most amazing gem.
The background building also didnt always look like this. When i built the piece in illustrator before i painted it i had real buildings - as developed as the Main one - about half way through i scrapped those and scribbled out some quick buildings and dropped them in in Photoshop as a placeholder - the second i did the whole piece came together - it offered something unexpected, and didnt take away or distract from the main image.

New work for Reader’s Digest about identifying your rash, charting it on out.
Played with identifying rashes - not being sure what a rash meant - soothing the rash - bit of everything
