The Ice-screamer. He is rather handsome. I heard baby crowing this morning and I suspect it was him.

Because there are some pretty drastic changes happening to my flock at the moment, I'm just going to do a quick rundown of my plans for each of my remaining chickens:

Fluffybutt: He stays. I have no further plans beyond that- I'm unsure whether I'll eventually replace him, or just bring in a second rooster to rule alongside him. Chances are I will probably let him age out. But either way he's certainly not leaving anytime soon.

Star: She stays. Star is a pet, not a breeding bird, and is good at raising foster chicks. I will not ever get rid of her.

Ash: Same as Star. Ash will stay with me forever, probably raise a few hatches, but will likely not have any biokids again.

Nettle: She stays. I am undecided on whether she'll age out with me or end up being rehomed or sold.

Hooter: Stays for now. I am also undecided on her, but less attached than I am to Nettle. I will have to wait and see how her chicks turn out though.

Belle: Stays. Good breeding bird.

Beetle: Stays. Good breeding bird.

Purple: Either sells this week or is culled.

Ice Cream: Might get to stay for a while. He's actually got a great personality, already showing traits of caring for the hens, but is likely an eventual cull. I don't feel comfortable selling him as a breeding bird, and I don't want to keep him as a breeding bird either (for a few reasons, but mainly because of his extra toe).

Bicycle: He will be eaten. I'm not sure when. Probably soon.

Boo 👎 this guy SUCKS!!!

He's getting culled tomorrow so I went to go say goodbye, even though I'm not really at all attached to him. And he repaid the gesture by... Ignoring my warnings and following me across the paddock until he was close enough to headbutt me. And then he did.

I am extremely Unharmed, by the way. Paprika, who has had her eye on him for MONTHS since he quite often postures at me if I get too close (though he'd never chased me or ignored my warnings before) (also for the record I wasn't trying to provoke him, I actually didn't even get that close to him this time, HE got close to ME) rushed to the rescue by distracting him.

Good time to get rid of him, it seems. I think he will be tasty.

I am honestly so pleased with this dinner, it was very tasty, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to raise Blue, watch him grow and live his best life, and eventually slaughter, butcher, cook, and eat him.

I did that. My hands. I also grew the rosemary we ate him with. Very nice.
