Summary: You’re recruited into an undisclosed study in an underground facility. One night, things go horrifically wrong and you’re saved by a woman with blue eyes.

a/n: not quite 100% the prompt, but a lot of fun to write!! very much more horror theme’d! —————————–

No one knew the name of the facility where they were recruited for the studies, only that they were all promised shelter, a bed, three meals a day, and regular health screenings. To most people in that particular community, such benefits were a luxury afforded exclusively to the elite and upper classes; they didn’t have to choose which one they would take that night, and which they would have to do without. So, needless to say, when the researchers were parading around with their fancy flyers and tablets, dutifully, albeit aggressively forcing signatures of consent from those hastily agreeing to partake- no one read the fine print.

You had been asked to participate through anonymous researchers one day while at university. The phone call had come far too early, around seven o’ clock in the morning, subsequent to your first lecture, but not enough time after grabbing your first coffee where you felt agreeable enough to listen to whatever spiel they had.

Well, that was until they informed you that if you provided consent and participated, you would earn an immediate pass for the rest of your semester and likely never have to step foot back inside a lecture hall for the rest of your degree. And like the poor folks they lured, they offered you adequate accommodations as show of good faith.

The facility was deep underground, built entirely of walls of reinforced steel and metal with tremendous pipes that crawled along the ceiling throughout the abyssal labyrinth. Even as the months carried forward, dragging with a noticeably excruciating slowness, you were never able to acclimate to how cold you always felt.

And, the steel wasn’t thick enough to smother the screams that often jolted you from your slumber late at night.

The floor below your feet rumbles. Outside, empty green hills and clumps of forestry pass. An empty tea cup and the book you had bought this morning at the station sits on the small countertop in front of you, while Levi occupies himself with the front page of the newspaper. You catch occasional glimpses at the back as you glance between the fine print and the wide windows.

The train lugs on, and for the most part, it’s quiet. Levi is quiet, too. Then again, he is rather sucked in on whatever bold headlines jump out at him.

Over the top of the paper, you notice his furrowed brow. The crease etched across his forehead conveys his utter distaste—a frequent expression that doesn’t at all surprise you. Current events have never impressed him. Levi thinks that many people, to put it in the simplest of terms, are fucking stupid.
