Week 14
Having affective content on social media is very important. In order to have effective content you need to understand the audience that you are speaking to. Understanding your audience can help you pull in more people that really understand you. The content you have should be consistent over all your platforms having important relevant information. You can use things like the content calendar allowing you to plan ahead and keep your post up to date.
Becoming a Social organization is being different & creating content that is visually appealing to your audience. People look for bright colors & things that catch their eye. You want people to be able to stop for a moment when scrolling, maybe just so they see your logo, but you want them to remember you by being visually appealing.

Week 11
After reading in the Social Organization, there are some key factors into building your social media platform. Some key things I learned about is that we need to get our points across. It is important to post things multiple times. Even thought a lot of people out there are not very happy when there is an abundance of the same Information. Having that repeat of the same information can help you get more people’s attention. It is also important to have visual statements, so people can have a clear idea of what it is your are doing. People like to have visuals rather than having to read a bunch of Information all the time.
My client does many of these things very well. They have lots of visuals as well as a repittion of the important information. They keep their social media’s very up to date, helping them grow & gain more people’s knowledge of what they are doing.

Week 9
After watching the video on “The Legal Side of Big Data” I was somewhat suprised on the information given. Doug LaLone goes on to talk about Big data & how many people are hacked all the time. He states the fact how this past year Home Depot has had 56 million membership cards compromised. He continues to talk about blue cross, blue shield hack, & how somebody has 70.8 million Heath records. He goes on to question, what are these people doing with this information, & we don’t know. We as citizens don’t have much option to do anything about these hackers, which gives us an only choice of letting our authorities handle it. It’s seems to me that we have all this information that we cannot even keep safe. I question our authorities to why they don’t have technicians in place ready for these hackers. Doug talks about how he takes his own Per cautions & how he currently disabled his phone to go to the cloud, so he could stay out of these hacking situations. It is really scary how easy it is for these hackers to get ahold of a ur crucial information, & there’s not much we can do about it.

Week 8
Algorithms are something that I personally don’t comprehend very well. Learning about a few reason how junk news spreads so quickly across social media is something that that most people experience everyday. In reason #1 they talk about how without these algorithms we would have to sort through a massive amounts of information. Now a days social media companies are relying on these algorithms to determine how this information is sent out to us. It is crazy how all of what we see on our social media feeds is all a product of these algorithms.
Reason #2 talks about social media platforms are collecting data & selling it to companies so they can understand each population. It seems to me that these companies know more about what we like than we know, & it’s easy to them. All they have to do is put out free social media accounts that people use an allow their data & assentially their thoughts, which are monitored each swipe. Another way they tend to get you is with junk news like click bait, which is so hard to get away from. Since things just pop up & you have to click the X to get them away.
Reason #3 talks about exposing, or putting yourself out there. So many things are connected, it seems like when I’m on my phone or other devices it can almost read my mind to what I am going to search or what app will be placed in my suggestions. It really makes me realize how much Information they have, & how easily they can just put thing you like into your feed.

Week 7
There are many great qualties you could have to be a good social media consultant. One of the main things is to have overall knowldge of your social media maketing. Having basic understanding of the most imortant media networks, and how they work. The social media network is always changing, each day updating, and new apps being created. Social media consultants can help their client acheive their goals, and spread knowledge. It is also important that these media consutant have the willingness to learn new things, as i said before social media is ever-changing, and continues to release new things each day.
If i were acting as a social media consultant, i think my strategy would be work on the content that draws others in. When having any social media site, in my opinion it is important to have things tat draw you consumer in. Having a professional neat, with intriguing information or pictures can help draw you customers in. So far i have advised in my client project to add more color, as well as more information about what is going on in the clean up assosiation. i as well have advised them to add more pictures of what they are doing each day.

Week 6
After watching the video by “Maciej Ceglowski- The Internet With a Human Face”. In this video it really opened my eyes, on how potentially “dangerous” the internet can be. In the video Maciej talks about how everything you put on the internet is out there & will always be out there. The internet does not just go to bed & wake up the next morning forgetting information. Anything we have ever posted on the internet or social media, or any sort of data is there forever. Things that you have thought you have deleted, to never be seen again are out there somewhere. It is really scary how much information they always have on us, & how much they monitor us to get they information they need.
In the reading “The Internet’s Original Sin” by Ethan Zuckerman, he talks about how Facebook focuses on advertising. During the reading they talk about their data gathering, which seems like somewhat a invasion of privacy. Facebook gathers there information by monitoring what you see, as well as daily use, where they then place their advertisements are targeting the correct people.

Week 5 Blog Post
After watching The Social Dilemma, it is honestly quite scary how much these social media companies do on a daily basis, that we have absolutely no idea about. These companies assentialy have control over over most things in our daily lives, & agree that something must be done. Social media platforms show how true, & false information get spreads so quickly now a days. It makes people talk, argue & sometimes disagree on whatever it is they are talking about. During the film it talked about how these media companies monitor what post, what we see, as well as how long we stay on these post. Just to be able to calculate what we want to see next. I recently have been kind of sketched out how sometimes I will be thinking about checking some app on my phone for something specific, & I will slide down to search the app i need, but it will already be in suggested for me. Even when it’s an app I haven’t used in a week, for example Amazon which I don’t go on much. It makes me nervous how much of an impact the internet can have on me. I have in the past made a post, or a tweet & later gone back & deleted it because I thought about it too much. I will delete things, & to be honest I don’t even know why. It might be because I didn’t get enough likes or thought it was stupid, or a bad picture. But whatever the reason, It really shouldn’t matter what anyone else thinks except yourself.

Social Media Pt 2
For my personal social media experiment, I went about it taking time off my phone in the morning until night, giving myself some time in the middle of the day to go on my phone if I wanted to. I conducted this experiment for 3 days, & I found it difficult during some points to stay off my phone when I'm became bored.
I usually go about the mornings waking up & checking social media to get the day started, where instead I decided to go for a jog, filling the void of wanting to check my phone. Instead I got to enjoy a beautiful morning where it was a perfect temperature for a run. I did find it somewhat difficult to not check my phone when I wake up, as usually it is just a habit to grab it a surf through it till I'm ready to get my day going.
The second half of my days were very difficult for me, as my roommate works night shifts starting at 4 o’clock. When he would leave, I found myself struggling to pick up my phone out of boredom to see what was going on, or just to fill my time with something other than sitting there letting time go by.
On most nights before I go to bed I usually find myself surfing through all social media, sending out streaks, checking a post I have made or what not. It was definitely tempting to want to grab my phone & just check on it to see what I am supposedly missing out on.
I found that throughout this experience I defiantly found myself getting the temptation to look at my phone when I have told myself not to. On the other hand, I found myself over these past couple days enjoying my time better; spending it doing more quality things than wasting it on a screen. I really enjoyed this project as I need to, on my own time not go on my phone as much & pay more attention to the world around me, as its changing very quickly.
So I end with the question, do you think phones are a necessity, since 85% of people find out news through their phone?

Week 3 Blog
In our generation, social media has had a huge impact on myself as well as others. In my daily life I find myself surfing through all the platforms at least once a day, whether its checking a post I have made or just watching videos when I get bored. In the video, Max Stossel asked a question about how many people there had snapchat streaks, & almost each persons hand went up, then continued with “who liked having snap streaks” & almost everyones hands in the room went down. When we go on social media, & check snapchats, or twitter, most of the time I feel like for myself, its out of boredom & I'm just filling time with a lot of pointless information.
Having internet all the time, is definitely a convenient thing to have on a daily basis, but there are many downsides to having that accessibility. Before the internet people had way more of an imagination, in the reading by Emma Rathbone she talks about how when you were bored you would create your own fun, or even find out some real talent you had. Now a days everyone is glued to their phone all the time, & its so easy to be ignored completely by someone who is stuck in their own social media world. I personally have my own experiences where I am too locked up in my phone where I just don't even realize someone said something to me. Some of the best times I have had were up north. At my cabin up north there is never really any service or good connection to anything up there, so when I visit the U.P it is honestly very relaxing, there is no worry about what is happening anywhere else because even if you wanted to look it probably wasn't going to happen. When I don't have my phone I find its very easy to relax & enjoy time doing things I like instead of having my nose in my phone.

Hello classmates!
My name is Jake Petri & I am a junior at CMU. I am currently majoring in entrepreneurship, & minoring in general business. I plan to one day have my own real-estate/renovation company, buying & fixing up repo houses to sell.
For this blog I hope to accomplish more with social media. I curently have a few other, different social media platforms, but I am not one to post much. So I hope I am able to become more connected with these platforms since they are becoming a part of each company’s market output in today’s society.
A company that’s stands out to me with there marketing on social media is Apple. When it comes to theirs clips on twitter or Instagram, they are very clean and smooth videos that are always intriguing; with bright colors, a variety of different products & accessories that are always changing. I would have to say that Apple has one of the best marketing platforms out there, they are always stepping up their game as well.
