Exhibtion plan

When I hang this project in the exhibition I will be hanging the images with pins. This will give my project a relaxed feel. I also feel that this hanging technique resembles posters for theatres when they are hung up for advertisement.

I am going to print my 6 images through print space. I am going to choose a C-type print with a glossy finish. I am going to have to print the images quite small because when I shot the images in the theatre it was quite dark so I had to use quite a high ISO for the entirety of the placement so there is a lot of grain in the images. This means that if I print the images too large the grain will be very visible. This is why I am am printing so many images - so that I still fill the space. 

I will also be printing postcards with one of my images on it. I have chosen the image below as I thought that it was as if the girl in the image is asking you to come with her somewhere (like the exhibition).

Post production

This image straight from this camera was very bright and the people in the background were very prominent and very distracting for the eye, I wanted the girl in the middle to be the main focus so I added a radial filter to make everything around her darker. I also added some blur to the outside of the image to make the girl stand out even more.

My method for this image was very similar as the first, I added a radial filter to make the outside darker to gain more focus on the girl. I also added some blur to make her stand out even more.

This image didn't need much post production, I just added a vignette and took up the exposure slightly. To make it stand out even more.

This image started off quite bright with the blue lights in the background being very overpowering so I added a radial filter around the pair of hands to keep them the main focus of the image.

For this image I need to adjust the temperature as it looked too warm compared to the images in the series, I also took up the exposure a little as it was a bit dark. I also added a slight vignette to keep the attention on the focal point. 

This image was quite warm so I added some blue and then took up the exposure and shadows slightly. I also decided that the people around the boy were too distracting so I added quite a large, dark radial filter around the boy so that he was the only one that was visible. I think that this works because it looks like the effect is just the lights in the theatre.

Final edit

I have chosen these final 6 images because they all have one thing in common - the different coloured lighting features heavily in all of them. This shows different emotions. Also the constant red colours throughout the play symbolises danger and blood. This is also translated through the images. Also the blue

Project synopsis

Macbeth Junior started in the early days of the production of Macbeth by the first year performing arts students of Barking&Dagenham college, I got to spend three weeks witnessing the performers come to know this complex play and how it should always keep to the rhythm of Shakespeare’s writing of Macbeth and how it is in fact “doth” not “doff”. The images in this series display some of the critical moments and characters of the historic play which were brought to life by the dedicated actors. I felt as if I was being brought in to a new little family and really built a connection with the students which is conveyed through the images.

Title explanation

I have chosen the title ‘Macbeth Junior’ because I see the performance as a younger, more updated version of the classic play and even the current performances that are happening places like the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Hanging plans

I have research some ways of hanging my prints in the exhibition. I am going to need to choose a way that is vitally pleasing but preferably low cost. An option I could choose is framing, this will look the most professional within the exhibition. Although it could cost a lot of money, especially as I am showing 5/6 images. A website I could use for framing is theprintspace.co.uk where they will print high quality images and place them in high quality frames. Another option I could choose is pinning the images on the walls using panel pins. This would add a more relaxed feel to my work, which I think would suit it.

Initial edit

I have narrowed my images down from 1900 to 26. I think that these images convey the different scenes and emotions of the play well and could be good possibilities for my final images.

Week 3 - Review

This week was my last week at the theatre. After getting to know the play I was able to get some good shots that I am proud of and that I could use in the end of year exhibition. When I started this work placement I thought that I would be photographing the final performances, but after I photographed their full dress rehearsal I talked to their tutor and we decided that my shutter would be too loud for me to photograph the performances. So I just photographed their final dress rehearsal where they ran through the whole play with costumes, no mistakes, and no stopping. This was when I got my best images because I could get really close to the actors and not worry about whether I would be in the way because I know the play now and where people will be coming from and going to. After the last performance I told the cast I had to leave and they seemed disappointed that I won’t be photographing them again anymore as my placement had finished. It was hard to leave because I had come to know the actors and their personalities well.

This week is the performance week so the students should be doing their final run throughs and dress rehearsals this week. This means I can get some of the best shots this week as everyone knows what they’re doing and I now know the play. I will be using the canon 1DS again as I think that it gave me some great images.

Week 2 - Review

This week was the best so far because I now know more about the play so I didn't have to focus on what the actors will be doing next anymore. This meant that I could focus on getting good images, whereas last week I was confused as to what was happening every scene.

Week 2 - Plan

For my 2nd week at the theatre, now that the students will be rehearsing in the theatre from now on, I will be able to get a feel for the environment I will be working in within the next 2 weeks. Also, after seeing two days of rehearsals I now know how the actors carry out the scenes and what order they are in. This will make it easier for me to get some better shots and plan out where I need to be and when. After using the Canon 1DS for a day and experimenting outside the rehearsal times I have managed to get used to it so I am hoping to get some high quality images from the rehearsals this week.
