As he continued looking around, it was like his mind—not his fingers—were writing the manuscript for him. Granted, it was a messy jumble of a manuscript that would almost certainly be forgotten within hours, but it was something. “The locals get offended? What? More importantly, why? They sound so protective, that’s a bit strange.” Maybe it was a weird diehard small-town resident thing.
He glanced towards the antique shop, making a mental note in case he needed one or a few for a project. That would certainly come in handy. “Not off the top of my head, but I will say I like the simplicity of it so far. Perhaps I’m still not used to the whole small-town thing. I mean, in London we definitely didn’t have a place called [name redacted]. I must assume Swynlake’s been around that long, considering nobody’s ever thought of a proper name. Who runs this all, anyway?” He figured it would’ve been smart to look that up sooner, but at the time, he wasn’t so concerned about any other aspect than the magic. For the most part, that hadn’t changed.

He followed, glancing around to properly take in the scene. Swynlake, so far, was bizarre—pretty, but bizarre. With the streets changing constantly, he felt the town was practically sentient—it quite literally had a mind of its own. Ichabod made a mental note at the thought, that sounded like a half-decent story element. Come to think of it, Swynlake sounded like a whole story element—so far, at least. Or, would its sentience sue him for plagiarism? Stratch that, then.
“What? No way. Is that really what they call it?” He mused with a slight laugh. “[Name redacted], seriously? I mean, I suppose it’s got something to do with its location changing, but still. Couldn’t they have thought of a better name?” That remark alone only added to Ichabod’s half-assed idea.

He laughed slightly at her quip because she was totally right. London never rearranged their streets—but then again, he was native over there—yet with all the people moving in and out of the city, he wondered if that could even be possible. Nobody would really approve of that, native or not. Perhaps, that could be an element of his twelfth book (if it was ever going to get done, anyway.) Ichabod remembered how, at speed dating, Boo mentioned she was from someplace in America—Seattle—he recalled further. His geographical knowledge of America was awful, so he could never pinpoint it on a map, but it was somewhere close to Canada (it had to be.)
He felt significantly less awkward knowing someone who’d probably felt similar to him at one point was giving him a tour. “Yeah, it’s been tripping me up, but I’ll hopefully get used to it. I’ll take mental notes as we go, I think. Who knows? Maybe this could be good writing inspiration.” His best (and worse) case scenario, he figured, was if he couldn’t, he could just stay in his apartment all day. Writing wasn’t much of an outdoorsy job, thankfully. “Okay, well, please, lead the way.”

When it came to the status of his twelfth manuscript, Ichabod was slacking. He’d assured his editor that he’d get his edits out by the end of the day, and it was already morning the following day! No edits had been done. Ichabod figured he’d just deal with the repercussions later. Two months after the release of his eleventh book, he was straight back on track—although slightly off-track at this point. It was…fine, he supposed.
As for now, he had a tour impending. Well, he also needed one. Why was Swynlake so damn confusing? It was a small town; it should have been a lot easier to get around than it was. Thankfully, he still had the tour guide offer in his back pocket from speed dating, and he needed it desperately.
He stood in front of town hall; he’d known just where that was after the whole speed dating thing. Which had been rather successful for him! Plus, he was getting a tour out of it, even if he didn’t actual grab a ‘date.’ He didn’t really want one, either.
“Hey,” he smiled, pocketing his hands. “I do really still, uh, need that tour. Thank you, by the way.”
