Ok McLaren fans of all kinds, listen up. Time for a harsh reality check.

If you are Lando or Oscar your main concern is getting as many points you can get each race. You want to be World Champion. Me, me, me.

If you are a fan of Lando or Oscar your main concern is your favourite getting as many points as they can and potentially winning the race.

If you are Andrea Stella your main concern is ensuring that the hard work of thousands of people at McLaren doesn’t get thrown away by taking silly risks. Ultimately, the results, the driver’s safety and everyone’s end of year bonus falls on you.

If you are Zak Brown your main concern is the commercial health of McLaren. You don’t want to spend Monday fielding calls from shareholders and sponsors on how you allowed the team to throw away a 1-2. (Also the man is just a nervous fan).

There will NEVER be a day when all four concerns will align. Someone is going to be unhappy. You just have to accept that.

At the moment McLaren have enough pace and power to be able to joke and tease about making one of their lives easier. It seems 80% of the time people don’t get the jokes.

But can we just be adults about this and accept we are juggling 4 balls here and the end game is not to drop any of them. However hard that is to take some weeks.
