We see Mr. Finch and Mr. Dankworth spending a lot of time together, because their wives spend a lot of time together. Both of those men are...a bit peculiar in their own ways, but both are really different than most of the men in the ton.

Now, imagine adding Colin to that club.

Instead of talking about conquests in a gentleman's club over drinks, Colin's "bro nights" are probably going to be sitting around a parlor table, talking with his brothers-in-law about how awesome their wives are over cheese.

Don't mind me, just thinking about Colin's hero complex and how Marina WANTED a hero, but when he couldn't fulfill that role for her, she moves on, and the next time he sees her, she tells him she no longer needs saving, no longer needs him. Compared to Penelope telling Colin she doesn't need him to save her, and that all she wants is his love because she loves him exactly as he is.

Like the parallel of the two women he's pursued romantically telling him they don't need saving is so good and also very telling of how they view him. Pen has always seen Colin, and understood him better than anyone, so unlike Marina who seems to view Colin's hero complex as immaturity or naivety, Pen is able to see it for what it is. She was able to know exactly what to say to him to help him understand and to reassure him of the genuineness of her feelings.

I'm in my Olympics 2024 brainrot rn. I blame Duplantis, EJ Obiena, Carlos Yulo, Sunisa Lee, Simon Biles, and the whole Korean Women's Archery team for this lmao.

My mind (being the weird thing it is) got me thinking of an Olympics Polin AU where Colin is a pole vault athlete on the rise, ranked #5 in the world. He's discouraged because of his past failures: first losing the bronze medal in the previous olympics, then failing to elevate his world ranking.

He and Penelope are best friends (who are in love with each other, of course). She encourages him not to give up, promising that she will attend the next Olympics to support him. Colin, fueled and inspired, made a pact to himself: if he wins a medal, he will confess his feelings to Pen.

Cue Colin at the Olympics, smashing the world record and winning gold. He rushes to the sidelines where Penelope is, confessing his love for her, and declares Pen as his good luck charm. Colin kisses her for all the world to see, and they live a happily ever after.

Was this inspired by the moment Duplantis ran to his girlfriend and kissing her after his world record jump? Yes. Will I ever write it? Fuck it, I'm halfway through the oneshot now 🤠
