That agreeing/disagreeing section is something I commonly do despite not being from Nebraska. So this post amused me a little bit 😅

My favorite thing about Stephen Strange being from Nebraska, is that I’m from Nebraska and it’s hilarious some of the headcanons I see about what his childhood might have been like growing up from people who have never been to the midwest, let alone Nebraska 

If you want your Stephen Strange to be ✨midwest ✨accurate one tip I’ll always give is we have a really weird way of agreeing/disagreeing with something

Example: 

  “No, yeah.” = Yes 

 “Yeah, no.” = No

 “Yeah, no, for sure.” = Definitely 

 “Yeah, no, yeah.” = I’m sorry, but unfortunately, the answer is yes 

 “No, yeah, no.” = oh no, you’ve got nothing to worry about

This is genuinely how we talk I’m not kidding. I recently moved to the east coast and let me tell you, people have a really difficult time figuring out what I’m trying to say because of it 😭 So like, you just know that little teeny bopper straight out of highschool first year in college Stephen Strange would have suffered like you wouldn’t believe trying to talk to people in new york 

other slang we use: 

“Pop.” = soda (we do not say ‘coke’ and if we hear ‘coke’ we think you mean specifically cocacola not just soda in general) 

“Coyote.” (pronounced like kai-oat instead of the way you’re actually supposed to say it) = the animal coyote but we just say it weird so i’ve gotten some really weird looks here on the east coast when talking about the animal 

“Ope.” = this is like a just a general exclamation word usually used as like ‘excuse me’ or ‘sorry’ but we just tack it on everywhere. so its not unusual to hear something like “ope, ‘scuse me.” in the supermarket or “ope, sorry ‘bout that.”

“Warsh.” = wash (this is something that older people do not so much the younger generation but I like to imagine Stephen saying “I’m gonna warsh the dishes.” 

other fun nebraska traits that you can add in to your fic/headcanon:

We have a traditional Nebraskan dish called a Runza, we have a whole fastfood chain dedicated to them and they can only be purchased in Nebraska (So I like to imagine that the few times Stephen visits home he brings back a cooler of runzas for himself because that’s what I do LOLLL) 

Nebraska football is a must like even if you don’t like the sport or sports in general, you love the Huskers and you will ride or die for them

In winter we eat chili with cinnamon rolls and so far I have yet to meet people outside the midwest that do this 

Everyone loves ranch on pizza in the midwest, everyone there is practically breastfed ranch haha 

We have a salad dressing called Dorothy Lynch and its only made in Nebraska and you can only get it in Nebraska and its something a lot of boomers like to eat on their salads (I personally don’t like it because I think it’s too sweet but I like to imagine that Stephen Strange stocks his pantry up with bottles of that because he can’t buy it anywhere else)

Kool-Aid was invented in Nebraska and we consider it to be an essential Nebraskan thing to drink it 

A good chunk of Nebraskans are Lutheran and so I like to imagine that Stephen Strange grew up Lutheran and was forced to go to the like hour and half long church sermons that we all were forced to go to as kids (bonus points if it was a rural church and on christmas they gave the kids bags of peanuts and an orange as a present because that’s what my insanely rural church always did)

One room schoolhouses are still around in a lot of the midwest and based on both MCU and comic version timelines of Stephen, it’s highly likely that he probably attended a one room schoolhouse as a child and had to do the whole walking two miles up hill both ways in a snowstorm to get to school
