one of those things that isn’t canon but feels canon in my heart is that immediately after the events of “the blind bandit,” toph got violently airsick flying on appa for the first time, and sokka noticed and let her throw up into his fancy new bag he’d just bought in gaoling. and even though katara could have washed it in seconds with waterbending, sokka went to great lengths to discreetly clean it by himself because he didn’t want to embarrass toph by making that known to the rest of the group. and that was the initial moment toph embarked on her journey of learning to trust sokka with her life.
