Hey fam,

I normally don’t share GoFundMe’s on social since I think it can be exploitive of people with big hearts but little to give.

However, a friend that literally helps save lives every day as a cancer and COVID researcher lost their 2nd job a few months ago and after struggling silently for a while is in a really hard place and could use some help from anyone in the position to give it.

C.C. (not their real name, some anonymity required given the circumstances) is a trans, non-binary research coordinator who helped start up and run one of the first drive-thru COVID testing facilities in Seattle, aimed at one of the most vulnerable populations, cancer patients. They risked their life back then, in some ways even more than other frontline workers, since guidance in their role was unclear early on and PPE not always available. The stories they’ve told me from that experience are horrific. After all that they continue to give each day to passionately improving the lives of people fighting cancer, but it is a nonprofit job that doesn’t pay well based on the high cost of living in Seattle, and that 2nd job was helping them cover basic costs each month before their manager there replaced them with her son.

The GoFundMe page doesn’t mention their queer status to avoid discrimination, but they are one of three openly trans folks working and advocating at their org. They were on the board that fought to get gender-inclusive restrooms throughout the hospital, so if you’re trans and have to get chemo in Seattle, you have them to thank for that small comfort.
