If I had a nickel for anytime my character’s personality type was ENFP and sometimes represented by a pink hibiscus flower I would have 2 nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Rose possessed all of Pink’s admirable traits.
However Pink Diamond herself was deeply flawed and far from selfless. On top of all of her extremely questionable decisions.
Pink Diamond Is Not The Villian Or The Hero Of Steven Universe.

Pink is a very hated character amongst the fan base. This is due to her inability to have responsibility when it came to her actions. However Pink had a side to her character that makes it hard to classify her as a villain but also as a hero. So that’s why she’s a perfect example of an anti hero.
Anti heroes are characters that have a mixture of traits of being a villain and a hero. This was the case for Pink. She was influenced and also hurt by her fellow Diamonds who made up The Great Diamond Authority a tyrannical dictatorship she was “destined” to rule the empire but resulted in her hurting others.
It was never Pink Diamond’s intentions to hurt those around her however she still ended up doing so. Abandoning Spinel, Leaving the Crystal Gems to take care of Steven and leaving him to fix her problems, Locking up Bismuth, are all things she did not know would result in them being hurt by her.
The Diamonds were her family. They were supposed to have shown her what love felt like. But they failed her. They made her feel like she meant nothing to them. And in Pink’s mind if she didn’t mean much to her family she wouldn’t mean much to anyone else. So yes she did retaliate in a way that was very irresponsible but she really didn’t know any better. All Pink was taught was that any gem that wasn’t a Diamond was below her and if they weren’t high up she didn’t need them at all. So that’s why it was so easy for her to leave Spinel. I know it sounds really messed up but that’s just how things were on Homeworld.
Love Like You is a perfect display of her relationship with Steven. Pink is the anti hero however she wants to be like Steven the hero. She wants to be able to help people the way Steven did. Her problem was she didn’t go about it the way Steven did which is why she hurt so many. Pink Diamond was a very irresponsible person without a doubt. She made very selfish decisions which negatively impacted those around her. Especially Steven her human teenage son who like her gained years of repressed trauma which caused him to spiral. But to say she’s the overall villain of the show is a huge reach.
To conclude my point, to me it’s so frustrating seeing her constantly get mischaracterized. Pink Diamond is morally grey, she’s an anti hero. We aren’t necessarily supposed to 100% love or hate her. Doing selfish things does not make you inherently a bad person, however you aren’t good for them either. Pink wasn’t human but no one’s perfect and that means we all make mistakes and unfortunately in some cases it’s too late to learn from them. I hope this character explanation helps people see her in a different light.
