Who here wishes they had a six pack?馃meee toooo, ever since I was a kid I had this fascination with 'the 6 pack' I put it on this pedestal, like the pinnacle of fitness was having a six pack. Well folks, I have made it this far to tell you that that's not true. It's great, but it isn't the be all end all. I've had to go through a lot of anxiety, disappointment, body dismorphia, and learning moments to arrive here but I now know in my brain and my heart that nobody needs a 6 pack to be strong, or fast, or sexy, or good at any sport. However, It's one thing to know a fact, and it's another to live like you know that fact. So I went for a run sans shirt yesterday to prove that I love my tummy even without the stupid 6 pack. . . . #yegfit#yeg#loveyourself#beyou#no6pack#mybetter#fitnessmotivation#personaltrainer#selflove#outsidethecomfortzone http://ift.tt/2wef9Dd

This is Buena Vista Park! We followed he signs for the off leash dog park after following Buena Vista road, and it was a pretty simple navigation. Accessibility: This park had both paved and unpaved trails some of which were clear but lots of which were not at all clear. However I did see quite a few bikes and strollers there this weekend so it's pretty easy to roll on with those, but I'm not too sure about wheelchairs. This was due in part to everything melting right now, so it got a bit swampy. Definitely wear some water proof shoes this time of year, and don't be afraid to get a bit messy. The puddles are more like lakes, and if you didn't already know, there are about a million dogs there that love to splash. Difficulty: this was about a 2.5-3/10 difficultly. Most areas were very flat or had minimal incline/ decline so it would be suitable for families with young kids or those with less energy. Tips/tricks: This is the best dog park ever! I know I'm from a small town and all, but I have never seen so many dogs in one place before, and most all of them with great temperaments!! Our puppy had a blast making all kinds of new friends, and learning how to play with the big dogs 馃惗, she even found her fist stick!(left pic) Not really a place for people who are scared of dogs, but if you're trying to decide what breed is best for you this would be an ideal place to check them out, you'll find almost everything here. #puppies #yegdogs #buenavistapark #yeg #boxersofinstagram #getoutside #naitpft #yegfitfam http://ift.tt/2n6zpkx

Aaaaaaaalright! This review is for the Mill Creek Ravine loop. I parked on 79th ave and 93rd street, just south of white ave if you go south from la cite francophone and hang a right somewhere. I figured today was a wonderful opportunity to get a hold of some snow shoes and take em for a spin :) Accessibility: I wouldn't recommend this trail for wheeled locomotives in the winter. There are paved sections but I couldn't see what they looked like with the snow cover. I could see in some sections that there was some pretty solid ice under the snow so use a bit of caution around that, especially since everything is melting and freezing around this time. On the upside, there are many entrances and sub-trails for your exploring pleasure. Difficulty: For the most part it was a fairly easy walk. It took me 1h40m to do, but over all it was a 4/10 difficulty. There were a couple sections on the east trail that got hilly, and on the way out of the ravine of course there can be a pretty steep grade, depending on which entrance you use. Tips/tricks: I saw somebody taking a small snowboard type thing down the entrance I used, and it reminded me that there are so many creative ways to use these trails! It was funny enough that I decided to take advantage of the snowfall as well, but there are many ways to do so without much cost. I know totem outfitters does cross country ski rentals for $20 per day, and they have great deals on their equipment in store as well. I borrowed these snowshoes from some awesome people I know, and I'm sure you too know somebody with equipment that's just collecting dust, so go #getoutside !! #mybetter #yeg #yegtrails #yegoutdoors #exploreedmonton #winterfun #snowshoeing #beautifulday #explorealberta http://ift.tt/2mFZvis

Here is a trail loop I did around Nellie Mcclung park and the Saskatchewan drive trail. It was quite beautiful on the Nellie Mcclung side with the trees as a canopy, and the Saskatchewan Dr side was quite nice as well with trees on one side and a busy road on the other. On the whole it took me an hour to walk, that's including all the many wonderful photo opportunities. Accessibility: I started the trail from the north of the [P] parking sign because that's actually private property, so I parked in the neighbourhood just north. There were a few asphalt entrances to the trail from that location that looked pretty wheel friendly and it does stay asphalt for a bit to the south but there is uneven cement in patches and this time of year it got pretty icy, I almost ended up on my butt even with a pretty good pair of boots so be wary. Difficulty: When I got close to the kinsman and looped up to Saskatchewan drive there was a pretty big hill I had to climb, it wasn't part of the trail but after looking a round a bit I found the trail pretty easily. The hill was maybe a 7/10 for difficutly but the rest of the trail was either flat or a decline. At the start like I mention there were a couple hills but I'd rate them more of a 4-5/10. Tips/tricks: I kept my phone going by plugging it into my laptop which was in my backpack, that way I had more than enough power to take lots of pretty pics and catch some Pokemon (that's right folks, l'm a #nerd) #yeg#yegtrails#yegnerds#winterstruggles#getoutside#naturelovers#slipandslide#citylights#maptosuccess#nait#naitpft http://ift.tt/2lH1Lo6

Here's the loop around the Royal Mayfair and William Hawrelak park. I found it to be pretty flat, save for a couple spots (around 8 o'clock if you wanna picture it that way) it took is about an hour and a half to walk, and we parked at Emily Murphy park. Accessibility: it is a natural (unpaved) trail most of the way around so I wouldn't recommend any wheelchairs or strollers, however the little walkers would have a good time around the northern part of the trail due to the lack of climbing, and presence of bird feeders! On the way back it did get a bit confusing to find the trail that lead directly to our car but it worked pretty well to take the side walk along groat road for that small stretch. Difficulty: I would say a good 75% of the trail is flat, and the rest is mostly slight incline or decline, with one or two steep hills. Overall I would rate it 3/10 difficulty. Tips/tricks: Bring a friend!! There will be both natural trail and road to walk on so boots are appropriate for this time of year. For people who are in to #crosscountry skiing there are loads of trails for you here. Another option is to bring you're skates along! There is some really good looking ice at Hawrelak that's begging to be skated on. ****if there is anything in particular you guys want to know please tell me to keep an eye out for it. OR if y'all are some experts please let me know what your tips are!!**** #exploreedmonton#yeg#yegtrails#getoutside#mycuteboyfriend#playoutside http://ift.tt/2kYFuzM

Hey, look at this cute little pine cone! There are so many little gems like this that we miss if the cold weather scares us out of going outside. I'm not saying we should all take up running ultra marathons in the winter, but I am saying that there are things to be gained by continuing to explore at every point in the year! Keep that #activeliving lifestyle even when it is -1billion degrees out there, you can do it :) #winterstruggles #activeliving #yeg #yegwinter #exploreedmonton #naitpft #motivation @hellyhansen thanks for keeping us all warm and toasty! http://ift.tt/2kIv2ww

Hey #yeg hikers/bikers/runners and walkers! I've just started this project where I go to a bunch of Edmontons nature trails and review them here, on tumblr (username: pinnacleofrefinement) as well as my personal Facebook page. Today was the first day, and I went to Emily Murphy park, the section highlighted in pink on the map. So here's the review: Accessibility: I parked right in the parking lot by the park and it was right next to the start of the trail. I wouldn't recommend strollers past the first 1/2 kilometre, there is snow covering the ice right now and it can be a bit deceiving. Those running or hiking make sure you've got some good tread on your boots and shoes! Difficulty: the second half of this one has a pretty good incline that is much sketchier going down. I'm sure once things start to melt in the spring it will get very messy in there. Tips: maybe wear a backpack that you can store extra layers in, because peeling them off and carrying them is a pain in the butt. Cheers! #alwaysgetbetter #exploreedmonton#naitpft #nature#naturelovers#edmonton (at Emily Murphy Park)
