I wanted to find a way to incorporate Spamton into my Royal Caretaker AU (the first post about Tenna can be found here ) and I think I figured out how

In this AU, Spamton is one of the two royal scientists, the other being Gaster. Spamton actually isn’t qualified for the role, and got the position through scamming and lying using his charisma to act like he knew what he was talking about. He wanted the role because it made him sound like quite the big shot and it paid really well. Gaster quickly figured out that Spamton was full of bs, but he honestly didn’t mind because he enjoyed Spamton’s company.

One day, Asriel and Chara, who are of course accompanied by Tenna, run into the scientists. This is the first time Tenna and Spamton properly meet, and they hit it off very well. Spamton spends more time with Tenna than he does now doing his job, but again, Gaster doesn’t care since 1) Spamton doesn’t have the qualifications to work on the Core, and 2) Gaster works better alone. But Spamton spending all this time with Tenna causes Gaster to become overworked, and blah blah blah he falls into the Core, leaving Spamton as the sole Royal Scientist.

Spamton freaks out, because he’s not qualified for this job! He can’t fix this! So he starts losing it as he tries to figure out how to get Gaster back, although he also believes him to be dead. Tenna tries to help, but Spamton starts getting distant. He fully loses it when he gets a phone call from Gaster, who is—in Spamton’s mind—dead. On the other end is just garbage noise and it causes Spamton to go cuckoo. He starts to spiral and become like Doug Rattmann from Portal, all crazy and talking to himself. Tenna keeps trying to help, but Spamton fully pushes him away and blames TENNA for taking Spamton away from his job and that’s what caused Gaster to fall into the core. This is, of course, not true, but Spamton’s not really all there. Tenna eventually has his hands full with the kids as Chara gets sick from the buttercups. After the whole thing with the kids and the divorce happens, Tenna tries to go to Spamton for emotional help, but Spamton’s lost it and jumps into the Core.

Tenna, believing Spamton to now ALSO be dead, has to add that to his list of reasons of why he’s messed up. He goes to sit and wait for the kids in Waterfall, shutting himself down. Over time, he begins to weather and deteriorate. Eventually, Spamton is back in the main underground, with the core having altered him (which is how he becomes the tiny little puppet rat man). He can’t speak properly anymore, his voice strange and full of weird interjections and he’s like a shell of who he was. He finds Tenna in Waterfall, but the TV guy won’t wake up. Spamton decides to stay by his side, because he feels terrible for pushing Tenna way when he should have accepted his help. Spamton eventually returns to his roots of being a scammy salesman (which is how he paid for his education, and yet despite that, he is still not qualified for his job haha) and tries to sell garbage to get money to be able to fix Tenna, but it’s a pretty fruitless situation as he cannot get much money and Tenna just continues to deteriorate. (Also, all it takes for Tenna to get fixed is Frisk asking Alphys for help later haha)

The spot where Tenna is becomes a trash heap where Spamton lives too, sleeping in the mailbox (but sometimes, he also sleeps on Tenna’s lap like a cat). After Tenna is repaired by Alphys, he reunites with Spamton and forgives him. Seeing Spamton in this state makes Tenna sad because he remembered how charming and likable the guy was. But also Tenna is shocked because he was so certain Spamton was dead, so he didn’t even recognize him at first and it caused Tenna to spray him with foam to protect Frisk (like the pipis scene). In the end, things are good hooray!! (On a pacifist run, that is)
