Never thought the odd noises in front of Noelle's house were traffic... blew my mind.

I'll only add that the police tape might be blocking a factory (surely the town adults work somewhere?) and the town doesn't extend further than that since the Town Hall is usually in the center. and it would be in the center if there was Something between the cemetery and the bunker. The cars themselves while Strangely positioned seem to be going to IceE's/QC's? There's not much else in that direction.

They look like race cars? Spoilers and all. (is that the EN word for the thing???)

Also plot-convenient grey cars... Copies are monochrome...

In all seriousness this scene seems to be crafted to feel maximally off. Like the hospital without a doctor. Or the school without a headteacher. Or the Holiday's house which seems to have been constructed by the Roaring Architect.

where are all the cars?

i was researching some stuff for a post about how Hometown is cut off from the rest of the world. while doing so, i discovered just how weird the cars in Deltarune are.

it's kind of silly to analyse something so specific and small, but remember that Donut Guy becomes a goner, and one car has the Forgotten Man in it.

walking around Hometown, we can find two vehicles; Toriel's van and Asgore's truck.

however, there are also other cars- most of which, inexplicably, phase in and out of existence.

of course, these cars can be between the screen transitions or something when we can't find them. I'm sort of cautious about that explanation though. as we can see from this painting, there just isn't much space.

for most characters, if we can't find them anywhere, we can assume they're inside the apartment buildings or something... but cars have to be parked.

and, of course, the road is blocked off. any car in Hometown is stuck in Hometown.

if we can find the car, the cell's green. if we can't access all of hometown to know, it's blank. if we can access all of hometown and can't find it, it's red.

Toriel's car sees regular usage, and it's either driving us somewhere or parked. Asgore's truck is never used, and Asgore implies that it need to be tidied before it can be. we can presume it's always parked by Flower King.

snailcar is stuck behind Undyne in Chapter 1, and stuck in traffic in Chapter 2's morning. then, they're parked by ICE-E. in Chapter 4's morning, they run over Napstablook, and go missing before it starts to rain. donutcar is mostly the same, but doesn't appear in Chapter 4.

all the other cars only appear during the traffic jam in Chapter 2.

so, there are twelve normal cars that we almost always can't find anywhere, and two additional cars that go missing during Chapter 4.

I'm going to try and explore the significance of cars, and their disappearance. there's enough weirdness going on that a supernatural answer to "where are they?" seems plausible.

regarding the traffic jam, Undyne says that "all the cars in town got swept up". she doesn't seem to notice anything odd, even though twelve of these cars are identical, and just don't exist anywhere else.

why would people even be driving anywhere? Hometown is cut off right now, it's small enough you can just walk anywhere you want to go.

these cars are like, conspicuously normal. they have the flavor text, "(Looks like a car.)", reminding me of the book of hymns which became a Bibliox in Chapter 3: "It's a book of hymns."... remember that this Bibliox is part of the path to the Forgotten Man.

and then, these cars go missing. they never appear again after this.

though, there is like, one hint.

this plays outside Noelle's house. it sounds a lot like traffic to me.

so, of course, the non-reality of cars in Hometown is made most significant by the Forgotten Man. if you collect the egg in Chapter 1, there's exclusive dialogue if you interact with a car in Chapter 2:

(Looks like a car.)

(There is even a man inside this one.)

(He waves at you happily.)

notice the similarities to this dialogue, in Chapter 4:

(Looks like the diner is full.)

(... a customer in the back notices you.)

(He holds up a takeout box and taps it, happily.)

the Man is found among people that don't really exist. cars without any characters driving them, a diner filled with undescribed people. he's kind of, imprinted onto anonymous nobodies.

another connection between the Man and Traffic are donuts. the Forgotten Man sells them, builds his schedule around them. "ON THURSDAY, I GO TO SELL THE DONUTS." - meanwhile, donutcar always talks about donuts, they're Deltarune's version of Donut Guy.

it's like the absurd running gag is like, a pathway for the Forgotten Man to appear out of. the running surrealness in Deltarune isn't just a joke, but a diagetic part of the world.

in Undertale, Donut Guy wasn't like, obsessed with donuts. they didn't actually want any Donuts. it's like their personalities been inverted between games- to be fair, this is true for a lot of characters, but it's still interesting. the fact it's true for a lot of characters is interesting.

in Chapter 1, their personalities the same as in Undertale; scared and otherwise normal.

in Chapter 2, they stop being scared. they're obsessed with donuts, which in Undertale, they didn't like. and they're beginning to show awareness of gameplay mechanics; "special attack". and this recontextualises their previous dialogue: in Chapter 1 they want to run away from Undyne, like you have to in Undertale.

they say they "wanna go home", but it doesn't feel like they really have a home, because we never see their car parked anywhere.

and after this, we haven't seen them again.

i think there's a somewhat strong case here they're becoming a goner. their personality is becoming exaggerated. they disappear and reappear without a trace. they know about gameplay mechanics. we never see their other hand...

something weird is happening with snailcar too. they don't, and never really have, acted the same in Deltarune and Undertale.

they're absurdly enthusiastic. they're seemingly oblivious to how they're running someone over, and Napstablook doesn't mention it either.

in Undertale, they're not even a snail. they're a monster who bought a shell from a snail as a house. they do repeat the same motif of "Home is where the car/heart is"... also an allusion to Asgore, who says "Home is where the heart is!" when talking to Toriel in chapter 2.

overall, there's a less evidence that something weird is happening with snailcar, and the evidence we have is pretty circumstantial. but they do feel like a strong example of how Hometown is getting more and more messed up every chapter.

Queen tells us lightners constantly search up the traffic- since the internets down right now, this must be before Hometown got closed off from the rest of the world, so it makes some sense, I think..?

we still don't know why Kris slashed Toriel's tires. we can sort of guess it was so the police would be called, and sort of guess that it was part of the conspiracy, but we can't be certain.

Asgore's truck is too littered with stuff to be driven anywhere. Toriel's tires have been slashed. snailcar and donutcar go missing. after Chapter 4, it doesn't feel like there's any way to get driven out of Hometown.

are cars phasing in and out of reality, or is it just an oversight? I don't really know. but there is like, important stuff happening around this.

Hometown is cut off from the outside world; one car has the Forgotten Man in it; one driver is a Gaster Follower in Undertale.

Something Else

We know boss monsters are a different species given that they "transfer" their energy to their children(which also implies boss monster couples can only have two kids max if they want them to grow up. they are doomed for extinction)

UT!monsters are explicitly magical creatures so they could very possibly do some kind of energy transfer to spawn offspring. (trying not to think of Dogamy's line harhar)

DR!monsters is where that gets tricky. They canonically have Bodily Fluids which turn to dust nonetheless when they die. They don't do magic. Regardless they could still do some kind of essence mixing? I don't recon we've seen any mention of monster babies so maybe they spawn in as toddlers. And considering everyone is gay and dating another "species" they clearly have SOME way to reproduce with the same sex/different morphology.

Another option is that they have different species. When monsters love each other very much they change into the same species. like in Shrek. This maybe explains the plane.

RE: Berdly's nipples. Some monsters (namely Undyne n Bratty) aren't mammals yet have mammaries so most monsters just have nipples naturally I guess.

I’m on the fence on whether I think that all monsters in Deltarune are the same species or not.

Obviously monsters vary wildly in appearance, so it would seem it’s not so. But a species is defined as “a group of organisms that can breed and produce fertile offspring.”

So can different types of monsters breed?

All of the monster breeding pairs we see with offspring seem to be the same “species” (Toriel and Asgore, Carol and Rudy, Catty’s parents, etc.) But how is this sustainable for every monster species to not go extinct given the wide variety of monsters that seem to exist?

In nature, the same species of animal typically live in the same habitat, but monsters are anthropomorphic, they are spread out across the world as humans are. Humans are all the same species, that’s why we don’t have a problem making more of ourselves. But if monsters weren’t, it wouldn’t make sense for them to spread out as they have.

I believe that monsters are almost like dog breeds in a way, while they vary wildly in looks and behaviors, they are all the same species at the end of the day, meaning that a monster can have children with any other monster.

We also see monsters that look like they are the result of two different monsters having children, take Aaron, for example. He resembles a horse with a mermaid tail. Who’s to say that his parents weren’t a horse-type monster and a fish-type monster?

I believe this is also supported by monsters all having the same type of soul.

Idk monster evolution and biology in Deltarune is really interesting to me lol. It’s just a video game at the end of the day but it’s also really fun to speculate on the hypothetical science of a world like that.

Very curious that this pin refers to the Angel when the only time Ral mentioned the Angel was telling the heroes have to banish its heaven. This isn't mentioned in the church prophecy. Angel's heaven isn't mentioned at all in fact. It says "The Angel, banished, will meet with its desire". Doesn't say it's linked to the final tragedy or that the heroes have to banish it. Which doesn't have to mean anything!

Toriel also wears a heart necklace.

I think the heart is for the Angel/Prophecy/Legend of Delta Rune. Given all that I listed above.

so we've all been considering the implications of "the girl" in the prophecy having a heart shaped object on her chest, almost obviously an image of the soul, and wondering what that means for the girl. you know who else actually has a very similar shape on their chest? ralsei.

- Spamton never calls Kris by name in weird route, only KID or [Esteem Customer]

- Spamton knew Kris before per chapter 3, so he's pretending they're strangers on purpose

- Spamton looks right into the camera when addressing YOU in his shop

Yeah he knows about the SOUL. As for you are all alone, the narration uses you and Kris interchangeably (Kris's SOUL shined/Your SOUL shined when using Unleash)

Given that "our" actions are as much Kris's choices as they are our inputs. (We're locked into their schedule of school-home-church on Saturdays, the whole existence of dialogue options) There's not really a way for characters to draw a line between us. From our POV, we're controlling pixels on the screen until they do something on their own. From the narrator's POV we're making our vessel say things they would've said anyway. So it's only natural for the narration to treat us as the same person.

Kris looks into the camera like every five minutes if not more often so they obviously are aware of what the player sees.

i think this wording is very odd

the separation between "your" and "their" implies its multiple voices, but "the voice" and "you are all alone" implies its just one

my first thought was that "your" was Kris and "their" were the other party members, but "their voice" implies its a singular they...

unless... he was directly addressing the player? your voice (the players voice) and their voice (Kris's voice) being one ("the voice"). Spamton does seem to have knowledge outside of what he should so him being aware of the player and addressing us directly wouldnt surprise me

obviously Spamton is projecting onto Kris here but i wanna look a little deeper

Spamton lost it when he tried to look into "Heaven" (most likely the light world but could also possibly be the real world)

maybe Kris tried to look into a reality above their own (which would be our world)? maybe thats even why they were chosen as the cage for the soul, because they knew about a higher power already? and hell if they werent aware before they definitely are now

and i wonder about the "you are all alone" part, because Kris... isnt alone with the player possessing them? i dont think i have enough evidence to say what it could mean, but... i think this definitely means something...
