I can’t believe I forgot to share this girl with you all over here! This is Jo-Jo. She was my Christmas gift this past Christmas. Story time! For about a week I had been looking at a specific cat on Petfinder. Her name was Nubbie, and she was a beautiful 8 month old, calico/tabby, domestic shorthair/manx mix so she had a nub tail. Christmas Eve morning was the day we were going to drive the 2 hour trip to get her from the shelter she was at. Well, I called that morning just to make sure she was still there before we headed out. I was put on hold, and then was told she had been adopted the day before. My heart sank and shattered on the floor. So my husband suggested we look around at the Petsmarts/Petcos and see if any of their shelter cats catch my eye. Reluctantly I agreed, still massively upset that the cat I fell in love with and was willing to travel 2 hours for was gone. So we stop at our nearest Petsmart, and they had quite the kitten/cat selection. I went up to the display window, and saw a few brown/grey tabbys, a black cat, a few tuxedos…then this little 1 year old black and orange tortioseshell girl hunched in the very top corner platform. Now, my heart was still set on finding a Calico at this point… until the volunteer informed me that the little tortie had a nub tail. What are the odds…… So I was led into the back room, where he got her out for me to interact with. Poor girl had JUST been brought to the store that morning from the spca, so needless to say she was a little scared. Once I had her on my lap and started petting her, she’d roll around and purr and love all the attention. There was something about her. I wanted to take her home. I wanted to spoil her. Despite there being a totally cute 4 month old kitten bouncing around in the back room, I wanted this little black and orange mottled creature with piercing gold eyes. So I  made my decision, and we filled out all the paperwork. We got her home and all set up, and for a few days she just wanted to hide under our bed during the daytime and only come out when we turned the lights out. She came around rather quickly, and now she’s FAR from that scared little hunched ball of fur at Petsmart. She’s CONSTANTLY begging for attention, wants to explore and LOVES to play. Beneath the bed is no longer a hangout spot for her. She’s a year old, but she’s still mostly kitten lol Sorry for the long story! I just wanted to share in massive detail (I’m an excited retard, sorry lol)

hi i recently got a fire skink at the expo. he's been eating crickets and mealworms but he's not eating as much as i'd like him to. his temps are about 80 ambient, hotspot of 94 and it goes to about 70 at night. humidity is about 60%. he only eats like 1 cricket per day. ive tried leaving them in his tank, taking him out to eat and even waiting for him to come above ground. hes pretty active. i see him maybe once a day. he's about 33 grams but the guy i got him from didn't know the hatch date.
Instead of trying to feed him every day, wait 3-4 days and offer like 4-5 crickets and see what happens. Fire skinks are usually voracious eaters, so I’m thinking you might be offering too often. Unagi eats maybe 5-6 crickets, or his fill of superworms or mealworms, every 3 days.I would also recommend not leaving uneaten crickets in his enclosure, as crickets can start to bite and bother your lizard. Once he’s eaten his fill, just put the uneaten ones back into wherever you keep them in.Hope this helps!

When snek is so hungry that snek thinks plant is food and tries to kill it. .___. Put the rat in front of her once she let go of the plant and all is well again.

Quick question! What do you recommend most for food for fire skinks? Most say crickets but I've heard certain roaches are good to?? Also a pinkie now and then?
While crickets are good, Dubia roaches (if legal in your state, otherwise see what other feeder roaches you can possess) are a fantastic staple. Superworms and mealworms are also nice, but not at every feeding. Like with any living thing, giving a variety of foods is preferable. As insectivores, fire skinks probably shouldn’t have any pinkies or mice or anything of that sort, as they are not build to digest bone well, and it is very hard on their organs to digest. Healthy, gut loaded insects only for these guys!
