🕊️ Nadin’s Hope: A Mother, A Memory, A Future

Hello, my name is Nadin I’m from Gaza. I’m a graphic design graduate. I’m a wife. And now — I’m a mother.

I finished my design studies just before the war began. I had dreams of starting a small design studio, of making art that told stories. I used to think about colors, fonts, sketches. I used to think about the future.

Then the war came. And the future became something we tried to hold onto, moment by moment.

On October 22, 2023, I was pregnant when a missile destroyed my husband’s family home. 25 members of our family were killed — his mother, his siblings, his nieces and nephews, children. Entire branches of a family tree gone in seconds.

We were displaced twice after that. Everything we had disappeared — home, safety, routine, rest.

A few weeks later, I gave birth to our daughter. There was no crib. No stillness. No celebration.

But she came into the world quietly and beautifully. And in her eyes, I saw something I hadn’t felt in weeks: life that still wanted to grow.

Now, I spend my days holding her and trying to build a world around her that doesn’t shake with explosions.

We don’t know what comes next. There is no clear path. We are walking toward the unknown, step by step — with our daughter in our arms and hope as our guide.

scattered thoughts about the minecraft movie (very slight spoilers too):

-all the "real world" segments felt like they were taken out of a circa late 2010's lunchables commercial that had a promotion for a free xbox 360. the way it was going I completely forgot they were about to be building shit

-yes people were cheering at "chicken jockey" "lava chicken" and the technoblade mention. most of the theater was younger kids tho so nothing too crazy and it was kind of cool. there was some cop cars outside the whole time I was in there so maybe there were some problems with earlier screenings. there was a whole row of kids in suits too.

-the brief cameos of dantdm, mumbo jumbo, aphamu, and ldshadowlady was top 10 moment for me. didn't get as large of a reaction from the crowd but 9 year old me was definitely pleased

-yeah that shit barely passed the bechedel test

-yeah steve has a whole 69 sesh with jason mamoa

-istg the "jennifer coolidge falls in love with a villager" was a plot line I saw multiple people predict like bingo card style and now that it's actually here it doesn't feel surprising at all. still nice tho

-that movie was 100% not a complete heartfelt reflection of the game. definitely feels like this should just be one and done w/o any sequels because even with this film there were moments that made me think "did these writers watch more than one playthrough before scripting or". basically I still (sort of) stand by my last post about it

-the movie itself was enjoyable with the constant cycle of "so bad its good". i had fun. i know a lot of kids saw this movie and had fun. the applause afterward was like the applause for a prime marvel movie. solid 6

Three years ago I married my best friend and have struggled trying to start a family. Even after this war began, my husband and I did not lose hope in starting our family and we continued in determination to live and to bring new life into this world. I am now currently pregnant with our first child, however due to the consequences of this war, I am faced with a high risk, dangerous pregnancy according to the doctor and I am very afraid that if I do not get get adequate nutrition, the medications, and supplies that I need, I will lose my child. The doctor has ordered medication to be given by injection throughout my pregnancy to help me carry my baby to term, however I do not have the money to purchase the medication and syringes needed, nor do we have the money to purchase adequate nutrition. Life here in Gaza is very difficult and we become more hopeless by the day. My husband and I had just started to build our lives together. We had a nice home where we had planned to start our family, and now we are subjected to living in a tent where there is no bathroom and we spend our nights just trying to get warm. It has been difficult being pregnant and not having a bathroom or even a bed to sleep on, but I want my child more than anything. The only hope we have left is in our baby and I am asking you to stand with us. Please, help us in any way you can to save our child. We feel very alone and abandoned, but we are determined to live and we want to see our child be one of the miracles that comes out of Gaza. Basic needs, like water, require more struggle than ever. It's outrageously expensive, and transportation is beyond our means. We are walking long distances just to get food, water, and internet. I can't grasp how our lives have become this way, and I'm speechless 😔

We are still displaced, with our home completely unlivable. I lie awake, terrified of what's next. Honestly, I feel like l'm losing my mind. My children are exhausted, and my husband is overwhelmed with despair 😔
