WHY PLATFORM PEOPLE FIRST?
The political agenda of the government frustrates us but we have learnt to accept it. The social and economic transformations disintegrate the social fabric; we remain a witness. The indiscriminate mining destroys the environment, we are silent. Government’s propaganda fools the population; we have no say.
“There will be no TB by the end of this year”, we only read. TB drug supply has never been in such a mess; we only talk. While campaigns like “TB-Mukt Panchayat” make headlines, we are lured away from fundamental questions of housing, food and safer work opportunities.
SO?
Following a discussion on ‘TB is not just a social but a political disease’ at Ekta Niketan TB centre (Jharkhand) a few of us, a group of social and health activists felt not to become silent spectators. We are passionate to address injustice to people in marginalised communities, particularly Adivasi and Dalit populations in remote neglected areas. The Platform People First is for taking up meaningful actions to achieve that aim.
JOIN ‘PLATFORM PEOPLE FIRST’
If the concept of a platform to work with TB patients with little access to quality care, populations living in mining areas in the midst of pollution, underpaid unskilled migrant workers in urban ghettos and industrial towns with no security of job when sick appeals to you, if you are frustrated with the ‘talk but no action’ environment, then join and offer your specific expertise. We need you.
The platform is about bringing a range of professionals, (health activists, researchers, media, writers, legal experts and community leaders) to work with populations affected by TB, mining and migration. The platform is not an ‘online’ network. The platform is about working with marginalised populations across India with a common vision.
