There's a lot of queers out there that find it hard to plan for a future wherein society doesn't want them in it. Can you offer a queer reading list of queer folx who have resisted authoritarian regimes? Any particular figures that stand out? Quotes? Are there other Claude Cahuns in history to offer inspiration in these times? Any stories of support networks that persisted throughout the AIDs genocide like the San Diego Blood Sisters? I'm sorry for so many questions; this topic has been weighing heavily on me.
I absolutely understand this, and I have some stories for you.
For articles:
George Everett Klippert tells the story of a man who changed the shape of a country because he was loved.
Jackie Shane tells the story of a trans woman of colour in the fifties who had a happier story than you'd expect.
Simon Tseko Nkoli tells the story of a man who fought back.
Elvira de la Fuente Chaudoir, A.K.A Agent Bronx tells the story of a woman who survived.
For books (affiliate links below) :
The Women's House of Detention
A Queer History of a Forgotten Prison
Hugh Ryan
The Freaks Came Out to Write
The Definitive History of the Village Voice, the Radical Paper That Changed American Culture
Tricia Romano
Liberated
The Radical Art and Life of Claude Cahun
Kaz Rowe
Nothing Ever Just Disappears
Seven Hidden Queer Histories
Diarmuid Hester
The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions
Larry Mitchell (Author), Ned Asta (Illustrator)
Double Cross
The True Story of the D-Day Spies
Ben MacIntyre
The New Queer Conscience
Adam Eli
If you need hope, take it from here.

A few weeks ago, I shared my list of 300+ Sapphic Books Out in 2025 (So Far). Now, I have the matching list to share with you: the sapphic books out from July-December of 2025, sortable and searchable by genre, release date, and representation. (These should all have a sapphic main character, but not necessarily an F/F romance.) Just make a copy and you can sort, filter, and edit the list.
Here's the list!
Let me know if I missed any that you're excited about.
And if you appreciate the work we do, consider supporting the Lesbrary on Patreon! It helps cover hosting and other costs.

What’s it like to write queer stories in today’s world—and why do they matter so much?
In this special Pride Month episode of Book Lounge by Libby, Joe talks with authors Andrew Joseph White, Juno Dawson, Susie Dumond, and Emily Austin about the power of queer representation, writing through challenges, and the joy of connecting with readers.
Then, guest hosts Carmen, Cece, Jananie, Kayla, and Meara share their top LGBTQ+ reads to celebrate Pride—now and all year round.
Hit play for inspiration, great book recs, and a whole lot of heart.

Light from Uncommon Stars ✨🍩🌌🎻by Ryka Aoki
Thinking about violins, The Whispering Star (2015) by Sion Sono and Lee Young-ae in Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (2005). Read this mostly in a daze and loved it so much. Was nothing like what I thought it would be — intertwined cosmic tales with fantasy elements, destiny, trauma, love. At its core it’s about finding belonging, finding your passion and your person. I probably sobbed a few times, listened to Paganini and Alexandra Streliski’s music on repeat and yearned for a nice warm donut. I get fuzzy warm feelings when I think about this book ☁️💫
