Ending credits animation for Nightfall! spent this past year working on and off on it, and I've been wanting to do something like this for a very long time. based on the first Digimon Tamers ED, with the same song

As Jagi starts walking away from the Center, Ruby arrives, passing by him.

RUBY: alola, grandpa! sorry i'm late. is that pokemon from team rocket? HARP: Alola, Ruby. Seems so. Was in a rather bad spot last night. I'm hopeful he knows what he's doing, delelele.

Jagi squints his eyes as he overhears the familiar duo, both frustration and sadness welling up within the Pawniard.

JAGI: Bah. (I'm NOT weak! ...Am I? That thing... It just got lucky!) JAGI: (Everyone on that ship is gone... But I'M here. I'll avenge them and show everyone else in Team Rocket what I'm made of!) JAGI: (MEGIDDO! I'll get you!!)

JAGI: ? ????: (Eep! Scary new Pokemon!) JAGI: ...Whatever, must be my imagination.

JAGI: GAH!!

The grunt jolts awake in an unfamiliar location.

????: Top of the morning, junior. JAGI: What the?

HARP: You've been snoozing all day, delelele! HARP: It appears you got mighty roughed up out there. I am hopeful you're in more favorable conditions at this moment. CORA: i'm glad you woke up. your injuries looked pretty bad. JAGI: Who the HELL are you?! WHERE am I?!

Jagi wastes no time in getting up and brandishing his now-single hand knife in a threatening display.

JAGI: Answer, NOW!! HARP: No, no, no, that's not what one does, junior! You got to show some respect to the Pokemon that saved your life. CORA: you're at the capim town healing center. we take care of injured pokemon and lost fallers. JAGI: Fallers?

Jagi's anger turns to surprise once he takes a look around the room and sees multiple "Wild Ones" as he knew them, taking a step back in disbelief.

JAGI: WH-WHAT?! Why are you housing so many of THEM? HARP: They are lost and scared in an unknown world, junior. Just like you are right now, delelele. HARP: And indeed just like you, any danger comes from their instinctual response to danger and fear. Can you not see how peppy they are, now that they know they are safe? The Sharp Blade Pokemon lowers his arm, thinking for a moment. JAGI: ...Whatever. Where's my scarf?! CORA: uh. here.

The Togetic nurse picks up the cleaned up Rocket-branded scarf from a nearby table before getting close to Jagi. JAGI: HEY, back off! CORA: relax. it's not going to be easy putting this on by yourself with only one arm. JAGI: ... Jagi reluctantly lets Cora put the cloth on his neck, letting out a grumble not only because of the act, but of the reminder that he is now down one limb. JAGI: Tch. Thank you I guess. HARP: Delelele. There you go, son, that's more like it. JAGI: SHUT IT, old man. I'll be going now, I've got matters to attend to. HARP: Are you sure? You do not seem to be in top form quite yet. JAGI: I'm not... some weakling, old man. I can take care of myself! I just had a bad night.

RELLOR: YES! Oh, my precious treasure, how I missed you... The Rellor hugs the golden ball as Team Light Fang stands there awkwardly.

OUKA: Uh... So... RELLOR: Right, right! Thank you for bringing this back to me, how could I possibly repay you? Ruby scratches the back of her head, chuckling.

RUBY: haha well, you don't really have t-- OUKA: Give us some money!! RUBY: (she said that so directly!!!) RELLOR: Sure, it's the least I could do!

RELLOR: Have some cash and goodies. None of these are as important as this golden ball! OUKA: Perfect!! Thank you, sir!! RELLOR: Save it, you don't need to thank me. I'll be going now, I wish you luck on your future endeavors, youngsters! The Rellor leaves the scene, rolling his shiny new ball down the road. Ouka just grins at Ruby, which Nova tries to imitate.

RUBY: hum. can't believe that actually worked OUKA: So, Ruby!! Nova lives with me so I guess we can split this half-and-half!! RUBY: hey, thank you, ouka. this might be more beneficial than i thought, more sources of money would greatly help my family out... OUKA: It would, wouldn't it?? Glad you're coming around to the idea!! RUBY: i'll admit i had a fun, even if things got kind of... intense, back there. OUKA: Yeah!! Wouldn't have expected to run into Envy... The Gligar girl's ears droop.

RUBY: ...ouka, why do you want to be friends with her in the first place? OUKA: It's just like what you say about Fallers, Ruby. I know she's a good person, she wants to do well!! She just needs companionship!! Ruby sighs as Ouka tries to be chipper again.

RUBY: ...i guess you're right. i'll take your word for it, ouka. you're a good friend. OUKA: Wehihihi~ The Ledyba stretches her four limbs in preparation, and promptly takes off flying.

RUBY: anyhow, it's getting late, probably should be heading back to capim. take care, ouka, nova! OUKA: Later, Ruby!! See you tomorrow, hopefully!! NOVA: Bye

As Ruby flies away, the two founding Light Fang members make their way back to their own home, as well, satisfaction in their faces after a job well done.

ENVY: what do you mean no data? ENVY: that cant be youre an espurr ENVY: this piece of shit thing must be broken

Envy shakes the D-Nexus in an attempt to get it "working". Ouka and Nova just look at her in confusion.

OUKA: What's your deal now?? Why do you suddenly look so... jittery??

ENVY: ...yeah thats right ENVY: i think im getting too stressed today i should go back home and relax OUKA: So... Uh...

As the Poison Pin Pokemon starts walking out of the scene, Ouka extends a claw at her, smiling.

OUKA: Are we friends now?? ENVY: listen here yotsuba

Envy glares at Ouka behind her sunglasses as she points at her.

ENVY: you may have proved you and your new friend jeremy aren't quite useless OUKA: Their name is Nova!! ENVY: whatever it is ENVY: i still dont associate with pokemon like you ENVY: your endless optimism is still a sign of weakness OUKA: No it isn't. What you need is just some friends, and we WILL be the first!! Envy spits before turning around and absconding into the horizon. ENVY: shut up yotsuba! ENVY: "i just need some friends" ENVY: tch. i dont need anyone else ENVY: ...

OUKA: ...Hm. One day you'll be part of my team, Envy... As Ouka stares at where Envy was mere seconds ago, Nova starts poking at Ruby's sleeping figure. NOVA: Ruby Is Still Sleepy OUKA: Oh!! Right. We should try and wake her up. The bat Pokemon joins in and pokes the snoring Ledyba slightly. OUKA: Come ooon, Ruby!! Surely you aren't that heavy of a sleeper?? RUBY: grhfhflf... Ruby slowly flutters her eyes open, groggily trying to sit upright as she's greeted by Ouka and Nova. RUBY: oh, hello you two... what happened? are you okay? OUKA: Envy's gone so don't worry about that, we'll fill you in on things while we walk back home!! Right now, we have something to deliver!! RUBY: envy? that's her name? hmm... alright.

A flash of white.

Her head pounding, Envy clutches it as her mind shows her a snapshot at an unknown point in time.

"Hearts sire, this attack took out nearly all personnel! What should we do with it?"

"WE RESTRAINED IT. YE TAKE IT BACK TO ITS ROOM AND KEEP MONITORING IT"

"B-But we can't let this many casualties pile up! Shouldn't we... cut the other one out?"

"NONSENSE. THAT WILL FER SURE KILL IT. WE CAN'T LET RESEARCH LIKE THIS GO TO WASTE"

"R AIN'T GONNA DEVELOP BY ITSELF"

Envy staggers back, her mind scrambling to process that disturbing vision she saw after making contact with the oblivious Espurr.

ENVY: whu ENVY: what the hell was that ENVY: what the hell are you?! NOVA: ?

The Nidoran quickly pulls out her Nexus gadget and tries to scan Nova, more nervous than she's ever been before.

Ruby clenches her fists, getting more upset by the minute.

RUBY: nobody gets to decide which pokemon are "real" or "fake", much less a... bully like you...! ENVY: cant even call me something harsher than that had to go soft last second ENVY: hell are you even capable of throwing a punch? RUBY: i... The ladybug Pokemon's arms go limp, her face showing defeat. She sighs. ENVY: thought so ENVY: us pokemon are inclined to battle by nature, someone with a weak will like you is not gonna go far out there ENVY: that's why i always have to do this business myself RUBY: that's... not true...

Not feeling like arguing further, Envy slashes a card into her D-Nexus and the Ledyba promptly falls asleep.

ENVY: shush now go to bed ENVY: you look cuter sleeping OUKA: Hey, what the hell?? First you disrespect my friend and then you use a Slumber Card on her?! ENVY: yeah what about it? just doing all of you a favor ENVY: now pick her up and you three can go back to your homes and get all cozy. i got things to do OUKA: I have that kind of attitude!! I'll make you grow out of it, that's a promise, Envy!! ENVY: say what you w-- The mean girl's eyes widen once she finishes processing Ouka's words. ENVY: wait how in the fresh hell do you know my name NOVA: Is She A Friend OUKA: Yeah!! ENVY: shut it no i'm not OUKA: I remembered just now... I used to see you all the time when we were younger!! We drifted off, true, but... ENVY: wh

OUKA: We saw each other every time my dad brought me over to your mom's café!! We played a ton!! Don't you remember?? ENVY: .... As Ouka recounts her memories, these same memories flood back to Envy's mind.

OUKA: She looks disgusted!! The Nidoran shakes off her momentary shock before getting serious again, pointing a claw at Ouka. ENVY: tch, so we did ENVY: but that just goes to show the difference between us ENVY: uuhh ENVY: doka? rose? OUKA: It's Ouka, Ouka Yotsuba!!!!!!! ENVY: right. you're content with being a daydreamer who yaps about friendship while i actually get shit done and save people from wild ones OUKA: These "Wild Ones" are people, too!! You don't know what THEY went or are going through, and even if we gotta be a little rough with them at first... it's always possible to work things out without using lethal force!!

OUKA: And if that's how it's going to be... I'll have to do the same with you, too!! Nova nods, willing to always back up Ouka. ENVY: hah, you're going to fight me in the end? ENVY: fine ENVY: show me if you really are worthy of respect after all, yotsuba

RUBY: ouka, nova, go ahead and get the golden ball! i'll take it from here. OUKA: Gotcha!! Nova nods as the two of them approach the gold nugget, keeping it safe from the phantom Pokemon.

RUBY: alright buddy, there's no need for so much violence. we just want to help! MURAMASK: Liaagh... HONK! RUBY: i understand you're in pain, but we'll help you get better! you just have to calm down, and we'll escort you to capim. you just need to trust--

Ruby's eyes widen as she witnesses the Muramask getting pelted by poisonous daggers.

MURAMASK: HOOAAAAaaargh...! RUBY: huh?! ENVY: weak

As the waterfowl Pokemon falls, the culrprit shows herself.

ENVY: all four of you were as wimpy as i expected ENVY: don't know why i got my hopes up RUBY: what the h... what was that for?! they were subdued! ENVY: as far as you knew, glasses ENVY: you get a rampaging wild one in your face and the first thing you do is try and giving it the heart of the cards speech? ENVY: that's why you're weak, like that feral lying at our feet

Ruby grits her teeth, the disrespect getting to her nerves. Ouka and Nova approach the scene right after, the treasure fully secured.

OUKA: Hey, who's this?? RUBY: someone who i'd rather not have here right now! A fade of a smirk appears in Envy's face. ENVY: oh is that the slightest hint of anger i feel ENVY: where was that intensity before when it mattered? OUKA: This girl is rude as hell!! Ruby, don't let her get to you!! Nova lets out a growl. Clearly the Nidoran wasn't giving them good vibes, either.

ENVY: so the rest of the peanut gallery is chiming in too ENVY: you should be more grateful that i even decided to swoop in and do the job for yourselves ENVY: i'm doing it for free you know... ENVY: besides all that sweet, sweet experience RUBY: you didn't do jack squat! all your sadistic ass did was put down a faller that we already had under control! we could have helped them!! Ruby clenches her fists, more frustrated than usual but clearly trying to control herself. Similarly, the Nidoran frowns as her stoic attitude begins to crack under the Ledyba's criticism. ENVY: listen here straw hat you almost got you and your friends' heads lopped off just a few minutes ago ENVY: these weird fake pokemon just pop out of nowhere and start causing destruction and shit completely unprompted ENVY: and your first instinct is "oh i can fix them" ENVY: this whole pacifism babble is gonna get you seriously hurt sooner than later when these ferals keep attacking

ENVY: no info huh ENVY: i wonder ENVY: how will these three fare?

As she grins, the combatants in the distance waste no time in charging towards the Muramask.

OUKA: Come on!! NOVA: Grr! RUBY: wait, you two, watch ou--

The duo just barely manage to dodge the Wild Goose Pokemon's Air Slash and avoid getting cleaved in half.

MURAMASK: LIGGAAAAGH! OUKA: Eep

The surrounding stones and foliage aren't so lucky, something Ouka is not happy to find out.

OUKA: GEEZ!!

OUKA: I didn't sign up for this!! RUBY: i think you very much did... Ruby fiddles with her hat, thinking. RUBY: alright, find some way to distract them! OUKA: U-Uh, sure!! NOVA: Danger!

Rapidly, the wild Pokemon jumps to strike with their sharpened spring onion...

...Which Nova stops with a Light Screen just in time.

OUKA: Wow, that's really cool!! RUBY: yes, now's my chance!

A familiar Nidoran looks on from the distance, quietly smiling to herself.

ENVY: huh ENVY: now this i want to see

Briefly enveloped in a light like they so desired, the Farfetch'd evolves into what would be its next form.

MURAMASK: LIIIIIGHT!

The gang looks in a mix of confusion and awe.

RUBY: but that shouldn't be... RUBY: ...hm. i guess i should have expected this to happen... OUKA: Wait, you know something?? How can a Farfetch'd evolve like that??

RUBY: we've been finding a number of fallers that don't seem to belong to any familiar species... RUBY: i wonder if whatever is the cause of their condition is causing an unnatural evolution? or maybe... RUBY: maybe, wherever they come from... this is just something that occurs naturally? OUKA: Damn it, we can't stay put thinking like this, that guy is glaring right at us!! OUKA: Let's go, Nova!! We'll fight!! NOVA: Ok

Nova leaps at the faller Farfetch'd without hesitation, clashing with them as Ruby gives Ouka an Oran Berry to munch on from the sidelines.

RUBY: you good? OUKA: Yeah... Don't worry!! RUBY: nova's really going at it... i didn't expect them to be able to fight like that.

FARFETCH'D: LIIIIIIIGHT!! NOVA: Hngh!

After swiftly dodging a strike from the wild Pokemon, Nova counterattacks with Confusion, launching a bright beam of light directly into the Farfetch'd.

FARFETCH'D: QUAAAWK!! Ouka, having recovered from the surprise attack, excitedly pumps her claws up in the air. OUKA: Yeah!! Nice one, Nova!! RUBY: h-hey, don't be so rough with the faller, now...!

The Wild Duck Pokemon kneels on the ground as the dust clears, weakened. They, however, slowly get back up as their body starts glowing...

FARFETCH'D: Light... LIGHT...!

FARFETCH'D: QUAAAAAWK! FARFETCH'D, EVOLVE!! OUKA: What??
