That moment when you go to draw a holiday picture and end up drawing a weird watery monster lady. One of my #metamours described her as a mix between a a siren and momo, another was also reminded of the creature from the black lagoon. I was also reminded of the split-mouthed woman. When my uncle passed away at the end of 2012, I was devastated. Having my dad pass away only 2 days after the 8th anniversary of my uncle's death..well that was almost harder to deal with. Anyway..decided to put those emotions into something artistic. It even has a smol backstory. My uncle was an amazing stage actor. He had his day job but would always find time for his true passions, of which acting was one of. At his service it seemed appropriate to me that there should be some sort of performance. As expected, it was standing room only and I thought they deserved at least a song. I take my turn, walking up to the podium, with red shoes that sparkled like Dorothy's, my uncle would have loved them. So, there I am, spouting anecdotes and memories, when I decide it is time to do said performing. My first thought was to sing a silly song I liked to tease him with (Soul Sister)by a band he hated (Train) but in the end, I sang Blackbird by the The Beatles, acapello. In the year and half we had been living together, we had been watching Glee. In one of the episodes a character deals with a loss and with his classmates they sang Blackbird. It made me tear up and seem appropriate for his service. There wasn't a dry eye in the crowd (or on the stage). Will try to keep up with occasional drawings while I'm away..will likely do a lot of dtiys lol..maybe even make one of my own. Drawing is a good distraction.. If you are wondering about the small sketch..when I was little I would stand on my dad's shoes and dance with him.
