Heat Your Swimming Pool Effectively With Gas Pool Heaters
Swimming in your private pool is truly a great way to have fun and enjoy life. By keeping your pool water warm and welcoming, you will be creating an even more enjoyable environment for your family and friends. Gas pool heaters provide a great way to heat your pool and keep the water at a comfortable temperature in order to maximize every swimming experience. With their cost and efficiency benefits, swimming pool gas heaters are a great alternative to more costly electric heaters and come with many outstanding features. Considering today's economy and the current cost of electricity, gas pool heaters present a great option for every swimming pool owner.
Swimming pool gas heaters come in two basic types, namely propane heaters and natural gas heaters. Both of these types of gas swimming pool heaters are high-performing and can heat larger volumes of water in less time than electric heaters. This means that you can start swimming faster with gas heaters and you and your family can enjoy an extended swimming season. In addition to heating water faster, propane and natural gas heaters for swimming pools are also less expensive to operate than electric pool heaters so they will save you money. In today's economy, that's definitely a benefit that should not be overlooked!
While both propane gas pool heaters and natural gas heaters are more efficient and less costly to operate than electric heaters, they share their own differences with respect to cost and efficiency. Although propane heaters are definitely less expensive to run than electric heaters, natural gas heaters typically cost approximately half as much to operate as propane heaters. Of course, prior to purchasing a natural gas heater for your swimming pool, it's important to make sure that natural gas is supplied to your property. If it is not, propane heaters are still an excellent and cost-effective option for keeping your pool warm.
There are many different available models of propane and natural gas heaters for swimming pools. When comparing and evaluating different units, there are a couple of different factors that you should look for. First of all, the specifications for each heating unit will include a BTU rating. BTUs, or British Thermal Units, are used to express the amount of energy that the heater requires to raise the water temperature of your swimming pool by one degree Fahrenheit. BTU ratings can fall within a wide range, and gas pool heaters with higher BTU ratings will heat swimming pools faster. Not surprisingly, models with higher BTU ratings will also be more expensive to purchase. The second factor to consider is their efficiency rating. A swimming pool gas heater with an efficiency rating of 85%, for example, wastes 15% of the energy required to operate it. Obviously, units with a higher efficiency rating waste less energy and are therefore more cost effective and more environmentally friendly. While the majority of propane and natural gas heaters will have an efficiency rating that falls somewhere between 80% and 85%, there are models available with efficiency ratings as high as 95%.
There are gas heaters for swimming pools available that can be installed either outdoors or in a pool house. While some models can be installed in either location, others are designed specifically for indoors or specifically for outdoors. If you'd prefer to have your gas pool heater installed outdoors, it's important to make sure that the unit you choose is weather resistant so it will withstand ice, rain and snow during the winter months. This will protect your heater and help to ensure that it will last for many years to come.
Swimming pool gas heaters will have one of two ignition systems. These heaters use either a pilot light or an electronic ignition system. The latter type of ignition system is the most common and is often preferable because it does not require a continuous pilot light which can be a waste of energy. The type of ignition system that you choose will be based upon personal preference but, as already mentioned, electric ignition systems are more common.
Whether you prefer to have a propane or natural gas heater for your swimming pool, either type will provide you with high performance, efficiency and cost savings. Gas heaters are easy to install and typically require very little maintenance so you can enjoy worry-free and effective pool heating. With a swimming pool gas heater working for you, you can dive into your private pool sooner and enjoy its comfortable warmth and refreshing qualities to the fullest extent.

Robotic Pool Cleaners
Robotic pool cleaners differ from suction and pressure side cleaners in that they are electronic devices operating independently from the swimming pools filtration system. As such the manufacturers of these robots can incorporate computers and sensors in the units to aid it in avoiding obstacles in the pool. Another unique feature of robotic cleaners is the ability to mimic human cleaning. By programming the computers to turn the device at intervals it can more effectively clean the entire pool without revisiting previously cleaned areas as often is the case with random cleaners.
Robotic cleaners are completely self contained and require only an external source of electricity to perform its' duties. This power source is in the way of a transformer that reduces the voltage from standard household current to a safe 24 volts to reduce the chances of electrical shock. Filter bags or cartridges on board the unit capture all trash and debris it picks up and stores it for later removal. Most robotic cleaners use filters capable of removing particles as small as 2 microns. This is considerable smaller than most residential swimming pool filters are capable of removing. Also by trapping debris in its' own containment system robotic pool cleaners reduces the need for pool filter cleaning or back washing, helping to conserve water.
Robotic cleaners use high volume pumps to vacuum the pool, some moving as much as 5000 gallons of water an hour or more. The circulation of that amount of water helps to keep water temperatures more even, bringing cooler water from the pool floor towards the surface. This helps to reduce water evaporation, again conserving water. This also helps to thoroughly mix chemicals that may be lying on the pools' floor cutting down on chemical usage. This also may allow the pool filtration system to be operated less, saving energy and maintenance costs.
Another advantage robotic cleaners have over other type automatic cleaners is the ability to scrub the pool walls and floor area. Most suction and pressure side cleaners still require the pool to be manually brushed to loosen stubborn debris so they are able pick it up.
While the robotic cleaners seem to be the best choice for a pool cleaner, they do come with some drawbacks. Initial cost and expensive repairs are the two main concerns. They are electronic devices and they do break. It may be wise to inquire about warranties and repair facilities before making a decision on a particular brand of cleaner. As with most things, careful planning before hand can save you from unexpected surprises down the road.
As you can see there are many advantages to using a robotic pool cleaner other than the obvious of saving the pool owner considerable time in cleaning the pool.Perhaps this article has given some insight to the real costs and savings of owning a robotic pool cleaner. Aqua Products, manufacturers of the Aquabot line, offer a wide selection of robotic pool cleaners available for all types of in ground pools as well as above ground pools.

Pool Pumps
Pool pumps are necessity in anyone's pool. Do you enjoy swimming in a swamp? Ever tried? Then turn off your pool pumps! They prevent illness and disease and provide a cleaner environment for all to enjoy. Investing in a swimming pool pump would mean that you didn't have to.
Without swimming pool pumps nasty germs and bacteria settle in your pool and quickly multiply to the point that contact with the water may give you a rash or sickness bug. Taken to its extremes, most major diseases can be borne on water. Then there is the smell, and no doubt you have previously experienced the odour of stagnant water firsthand. Would you really like that odour hanging over your home and garden?
Swimming pool pumps are an integral part of any pool and serve to provide a vital service. Pool pumps circulate the water so that it remains in constant motion; this may not sound like a particularly groundbreaking benefit, but if you don't circulate the water it quickly becomes stagnant and attracts germs and bacteria.
Swimming pool pumps also serve to ensure that all of the chemicals added to the water to kill germs and keep it sanitary are circulated throughout the pool. It is difficult to spread the chemicals evenly throughout the water, but not so hard if you have an automated machine pumps for you.
The market today offers a vast range of pool pumps available for purchase. They vary greatly in the detail of their functionality and power, but most will do the job effectively. Clearly much is dependent on the dimensions of the pool and the amount of work in pumping, circulating and filtering required - more water = more work. There are some pumps that are only designed to sustain smaller pools and would hardly touch the larger ones. However, no swimming pool pumps are as expensive as you may expect them to be.
Swimming pool pumps are available from all good DIY and hardware shops as well as specialist pool stores. You can also request for someone to come and install your pump if you feel that it is necessary, although they can easily be installed by anyone. Pool pumps are also widely available from many reputable companies that trade on the world wide web.

Learn About Pool Pumps
Anyone who owns a swimming pool, whether it is indoors, outdoors, above-ground or in-ground, should be aware that their pool has a pump device and any pool that does not really should. A pool pump is in many ways the heart of your swimming pool, and specifically its filtration system. How does a pool pump work exactly?
In a typical pool pump, electricity powers an electric motor. This motor spins an impeller inside the pump housing, which sucks in the water from the drain (or drains in larger pools), filters it through the pump's internal filtration unit, and finally sends the cleaned water back into the pool. Before the water flows into the actual pump, however, it travels through a metal strainer basket that is used to catch larger items, like leaves or even rocks. The basket can then be easily removed and emptied.
While the job of a pool pump may sound simple and to a point even inconsequential, the pool pump is in many respects the center, the very heart of your pool. Without a working one to keep the water continuously moving from the filter and back to the pool, removing microscopic organisms, molds and larger objects like leaves, your swimming pool can quickly turn into a breeding ground of bacteria which can cause illness and disease. This is why taking proper precautions and issuing proper maintenance to them is vitally important to ensuring not just the continued performance of the pump itself, but your pool as a whole.
Thankfully taking care of your pool pump is relatively easy. All you need to do is either during a lull in your pool use during the summer, or during the months when your pool will not be in use, is to remove it from its set area and clean it, removing any excess sand that may have gotten inside the impeller or motor. If you allow this sand and other residue to build up, it can eventually burn out your motor, leaving you to replace it.
There are many different kinds of pool pumps, depending on what kind of pool you have. Some are designed for above-ground pools, others for in-ground. Regardless of whether the pool is an in-ground or an above-ground, one key factor in determining which one you buy is the motor inside, specifically it's horsepower. Many motors range in horsepower, from three and five for indoor pools, to seven to 10 for outdoor above-ground pools, to even stronger 30HP units
While you may not think the horsepower of your pump matters, it actually does matter quite a bit. If you buy an underpowered unit, you may not be able to properly circulate the water through your filtration units, leaving it to be stagnant and collect bacteria, algae, and other undesirables. If your unit is overpowered, you can also experience the same kinds of problems as the water will wash right past the water intake hose, and over time can in fact catch the same undesirables as water that is simply stagnant.

Swimming Pool Heat Pumps - What Are The Advantages?

Swimming pool heat pumps are an excellent way to keep your pool at a comfortable temperature for swimming even during the cooler nights of spring and fall. These heaters do not generate heat themselves but rather act as a heat exchanger, collecting heat energy from the environment. A fan draws air over an evaporator coil filled with refrigerant which absorbs heat and becomes a gas. A compressor increases the heat of the gas which passes through a condenser coil which transfers the warmth to the circulating pool water.
The heated water then reenters your pool and raises the temperature of the water in your pool. This allows you to use your pool almost year round, making your investment pay off that much better. The most important thing is choosing the right size heater for your pool.
Heaters for pools are rated based on their heat output in BTUs. The more BTUs your unit puts out, the faster the temperature of the water in your pool will rise. Due to the wide variety of sizes and shapes of pools and the different climates where pools are found, the BTU rating necessary to keep the water temperature comfortable will vary. A professional can determine the size of the unit you need by measuring the surface are of your pool, the desired temperature of the water (the difference between the average air temperature and the temperature of the water). You can also determine this figure yourself using tools available online. Once you know how many BTUs you need to heat your pool, you can begin comparing different models of swimming pool heat pumps.
When you begin looking at different swimming pool heat pumps, you will always want to pick a heater that is rated higher than the minimum figure determined earlier. The larger the heater you purchase, the more quickly it can heat your pool. This means that your heater will have to run less often, and will often last longer than a smaller model.
When you have chosen a swimming pool heat pump, it should be installed after the filter system is in place but before any chemicals (including chlorine) are used. This ensures that the heat pump will not be exposed to any overly strong chemicals. You will likely need a professional to install your heat pump - not only does this ensure that it is done properly, it can also help you avoid injury. Swimming pool heat pumps are an ideal way to make your swimming pool usable nearly year round, depending on where you live.

The Best Pool Supplies for the Enviornment

The green trend isn't going anywhere soon, and manufacturers are starting to notice. The new lines of products are more energy efficient than ever. When looking for environmentally friendly pool supplies, you should look for products that feature high energy efficiency, low pollution or water conservation.
Consider a solar-paneled water heater. Systems like the SunGrabber include four solar panels that are mounted on your roof. Water is circulated to the solar panels, is warmed using the sun's energy, and returned to your pool, electricity and gas free! The SunGrabber can increase your temperature by at least ten degrees. For larger pools, additional solar panels can be purchased. This system could be used in addition to a solar blanket for maximum effectiveness. For above ground heaters, the Solar Bear system is installed right next to the pool on the ground.
If you live in an area with low sun exposure or just still still want a powered heater, there are several pool heaters that are energy efficient and produce less pollution. The Max-E Therm pool heater heats the pool more quickly so that less energy is needed.
When looking for a pool pump, choose a pump with low wattage. This will mean less electricity. Finding a pump with low wattage but enough power for your pool can be tricky, but models like the Hayward Northstar Pump pack a punch despite its energy efficiency. Its design even features a motor that runs 20% cooler.
Filters also come in green options. Finding a filter that utilizes full flow technology means more efficient filtration, so it will need to be run less often. A good model is the Hayward Above Ground filter
With all the great models on the market is easy to find the right energy-efficient pool cleaner. The Aquabot Pool Rover has its own compact power supply with low voltage with a water-conserving feature: its self contained vacuum and water filter helps your pool's filter system work more efficiently, saving 10,000 gallons of water every year. It also is a great energy saver! Having this type of built in system, along with being jet propelled rather than needing a filtration hookup can save energy from 20% to 40%.
Choosing green products is not only good for your planet, but your wallet! Whether your supplies are due for a replacement or you want a green upgrade, finding environmentally friendly products is easy and responsible.

Simple Swimming Pool Pump Maintenance

The pool pump is the engine to your swimming pool circulation and filtration system. In order for your pool to stay clean and the pool water to stay clear, the pump needs to be in good working order at all times. The following pool pump maintenance tasks should be performed on a routine basis.
Water Level - Monitor and maintain the proper water level in your pool at ALL times. If the water level gets too low, the pump can lose its prime and run dry, damaging the pump or pump motor.
Clean Out Skimmer Baskets - Keep the skimmer basket clear of debris. If the skimmer basket is neglected and becomes filled with debris, it will eventually restrict water flow to the pump and damage the pump or pump motor. A clogged skimmer basket will also lead to inefficient filtration and water clarity problems such as a cloudy pool or an algae bloom. Cleaning out the skimmer basket may need to be done as often as once or twice a day during certain parts of the year, especially in windy areas or in backyards with lots of trees and bushes. For some pools it may be as little as once or twice a month.
Clean Out Pump Basket - the pump basket needs similar maintenance as the skimmer basket. For most swimming pools it won't need to be cleaned out as often as the skimmer basket. On the other hand, if you're checking one, you might as well check the other.
Tip: For both the skimmer basket and pump basket, try to avoid hitting the baskets on the concrete deck when cleaning. This will lead to cracks in the baskets that will allow debris to get by, risking a clogged impeller or damaged pump. Instead, clean them out with your hands and wash them out with a hose.
Prime the Pool Pump - any time the pump lid is removed and reinstalled during cleaning, be sure the pump is filled with water up to the top of the inlet before restarting the pump. Simply use the hose or a small bucket with water from the pool to add water to the pump. This will assist the pump upon starting and avoid running the pump dry for any length of time.
Pump Lid - Inspect the pump lid for cracks that may cause an air leak. A cracked pump lid is a problem that is easily overlooked and will cause the pump to run dry.
Pump Lid O-Ring - A bad pump o-ring can also be the cause of an air leak. Inspect the pump lid o-ring for dryness or cracks and replace if necessary. Make sure the o-ring is clean and well lubricated with an approved lubricant when reinstalling. Also clean the surfaces of the pump and pump lid before replacing the lid in order to create a tight seal. Without a tight seal, air might enter the system and decrease pump performance and pool water circulation.
Neglecting your swimming pool pump can be a costly mistake resulting in big headaches, an ugly pool, and expensive repairs. Avoiding these problems can be quick and easy. The key is getting to know your swimming pool and how often it needs attention. Then, implementing a routine of performing the above tasks as needed.
