International Cat Day is celebrated on August 8. This day is observed to raise awareness about cats and to protect them. It is an opportunity to increase love for cats, encourage cat adoption, and work for their welfare.
Furthermore, research studies state that having cats as pets can reduce stress and improve heart health. They also provide comfort and joy to those who feel lonely.
After dogs, cats are the most popular pet animals in households. Once, my father brought home a small kitten from a friend’s house. It was tiny, very cute, and full of energy.
After a few days, when my father’s friend returned from his hometown, the kitten went back to their house. The time it spent with us was filled with joy. Later, during one of my UG period, I spotted another kitten in the morning—it was also extremely cute and captured everyone’s attention. On this International Cat Day, I am thankful for the opportunity to share my cherished memories connected with cats.

Indorama Public School, Jagdishpur, Uttar Pradesh
Remembering the Quit India Movement – 8th August
On the historic day of 8 August, Indorama Public School, Jagdishpur, paid heartfelt tribute to the brave hearts of the Quit India Movement – a movement that became the clarion call for India’s final march towards freedom.
A special assembly was held where students took the audience back to 1942 through a moving skit and special performances. Young talents stepped into the shoes of great leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, Sarojini Naidu, and other torchbearers of India’s struggle, breathing life into their words, vision, and sacrifices.
The performances vividly portrayed the courage, unity, and unyielding determination that powered the nation’s fight against colonial rule. Each act reminded everyone that the Quit India Movement was not merely a political protest but a mass awakening of the Indian spirit — urging every citizen to demand “British, Quit India!”
The event concluded with a powerful message for today’s youth: while our forefathers fought for political freedom, it is now our responsibility to fight for freedom from ignorance, inequality, and injustice, ensuring the dreams of those martyrs live on.

He taught us to strive, to dream, and to live with hope.
🔳An Extraordinary Journey of an Ordinary Man
Born into a humble fisherman’s family in Rameswaram, Dr. Abdul Kalam sold newspapers in his youth. From those early days, he rose to become the President of the Republic of India.
His life reminds us all—especially the youth—that: Life is not defined by birth, but by effort.”
🔳Architect of India's Scientific Advancement
Known as the “Missile Man of India,” he played a vital role in strengthening India’s defense and space capabilities.
At the same time, he showed a compassionate heart by developing lightweight calipers for polio - affected children - reflecting both his brilliance and deep social responsibility.
🔳Eyes Must Dream
He once said: Dream is not what you see in sleep, dream is something which doesn’t let you sleep.
His vision was to see India become a developed nation by 2020. Now it's 2025. This is the moment for us to ask: What have we done to fulfill that dream?
🔳The Humble Professor
Even after serving as the President, he saw himself first and foremost as a teacher.
He felt most alive when interacting with students. It was while addressing students that he took his final breath—He lived like a teacher and died as one.
🔳Carrying Forward His Vision
Let us all contribute in small ways to make Dr. Kalam’s dream come true—
▪️ Plant a tree
▪️ Inspire a student
▪️ Create a new idea
Time may pass... but Kalam will never be forgotten."
Sir, we will carry your dream forward. Your image may fade from our eyes, but your memories will never fade from our hearts. For every young mind striving to succeed, your life is a lesson.

A Heartfelt True Story – 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱
Shared for World Drowning Prevention Day – July 25
Every year on July 25, the world observes World Drowning Prevention Day — a reminder of the lives lost to drowning and a call to action for awareness, safe practices, and the importance of swimming as a life skill.
This year (2025), the global theme is:
“Your story can save a life – Drowning prevention through shared experiences.”
In the spirit of this theme, I want to share a deeply personal story — a memory that remains etched in my heart.
𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 – A Sunday That Ended in Sorrow
I was in 9th grade then. It was summer vacation in May — a time we all looked forward to. Like every evening, I was out playing with my friends in the fields. After our game, we sat around talking and laughing.
One of my friends excitedly said: “Tomorrow is Sunday. There’s a large open well near our house with a pump set. Let’s all go there to bathe and have some fun!”
Everyone agreed without hesitation. “We’ll definitely come!” we all replied enthusiastically.
But that night, something unexpected happened.
My father informed us that we had to leave early the next morning for our native village due to a family occasion. In those days, phones weren’t easily accessible — so I couldn’t inform my friends directly.
Before leaving, I quickly told a neighbor: “Please let them know I’m not coming. We’re going to our village.”
An 𝗨𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 and an Irreversible Loss
The next morning, my friends came looking for me.
The neighbor informed them I had already left.
So, thinking I simply couldn’t join, they continued with their plan.
They reached the well, laughing, splashing water, shouting joyfully —
completely lost in the thrill of the moment.
But suddenly...
The friend who had first jumped into the well was nowhere to be seen.
At first, the others didn’t realize. But when they did — panic gripped them. They searched frantically.
Family members and nearby villagers were alerted.
Some who could swim dived in to help.
Eventually...The lifeless body of my dear friend rose from the water.
𝗔 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗱
When I returned from my village and heard what had happened, it felt like a bolt of lightning struck me.
What if I had gone that day?
Would the same thing have happened?
Would I have been the one...?
I don’t have the answers.
All I know is — a joyful Sunday turned into a memory of sorrow that I carry with me always.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹?
This heartbreaking incident taught me a lesson that I will never forget. And on World Drowning Prevention Day, I want to share this truth with you:
🔹 Holidays are for joy — but never act on plans without proper safety or informing elders.
🔹 Swimming is not just a sport; it’s a survival skill. Everyone, especially children, should learn it.
🔹 Never swim in wells, ponds, or lakes without trained swimmers or adult supervision.
🔹 Our stories have the power to save lives.
One moment of carelessness can cost a life — but safety can protect many.

Tirunelveli Medical College – Community Outreach on World Drowning Prevention Day
𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲: July 25, 2025
𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Reddiyarpatti Upgraded Government Primary Health Centre, Tirunelveli.
As part of its continued efforts to promote public health awareness, the Nursing students of Tirunelveli Medical College carried out a Community Outreach Program on the occasion of World Drowning Prevention Day, observed globally on July 25. The outreach was conducted under the guidance of Principal Rtn. Mr. R. Parthipan and the leadership of Nursing Tutor and National UN Volunteer Mr. V. Selvan.
The team visited the Reddiyarpatti UGPHC, Tirunelveli, where they delivered a health education session in the Outpatient Department (OPD), focusing on the dangers of drowning and the importance of water safety. Following this, the students proceeded to the nearby Anganwadi Centre, where they engaged with young children through a lively and informative awareness session.
The students educated the children on:
▪️Avoiding areas with stagnant water or open water containers.
▪️Staying under adult supervision at all times, especially around water.
▪️Being cautious while playing near water bodies.
▪️Never entering rivers, lakes, or ponds without elder supervision.
▪️The importance of learning swimming as a life-saving skill.
Informative posters and visual aids were used to make the session engaging and effective. Anganwadi worker Mrs. Thangam was also present during the program.
Speaking at the event, National UN Volunteer Mr. V. Selvan emphasized:
Parents must ensure that children are never left unsupervised near water bodies such as ponds, rivers, and wells. Open water containers like buckets and tanks should always be safely covered. Children must be taught to swim under expert supervision, and they should be made aware of the dangers around water."
He further stressed the need for emergency preparedness, urging communities to have medical aid accessible in case of accidents. Use of life jackets in natural water bodies and installation of warning signs near water sources were also recommended.
Parents should actively participate in their children's swimming lessons and never leave them unattended near water. Continuous supervision in and around water is absolutely essential,” he added.
The event served as a reminder that drowning is preventable, and that education, vigilance, and basic swimming skills can go a long way in saving lives.

Tirunelveli Medical College Nursing Students Extend Compassion Through Community Outreach at Historic School for the Visually Impaired
As part of a meaningful community outreach initiative, third-year outgoing nursing students from the School of Nursing, Tirunelveli Medical College, visited a century-old school for visually impaired students in Palayamkottai. This program was conducted under the guidance of the School’s Principal, Rtn. Mr. R. Parthipan, and led by Nursing Tutor and National UN Volunteer Mr. V. Selvan.
The school, a beacon of hope and education for children with special needs, has been serving the community for over 100 years. The visiting team was warmly welcomed by the esteemed Principal, Rtn. Mr. Kingston, who shared insights into the school’s rich legacy and remarkable growth over the years.
During the visit, the nursing students had the opportunity to visit classrooms and observe how visually impaired students are taught using Braille. The teachers provided in-depth explanations of the unique methods employed to ensure inclusive and effective education.
The nursing students also took time to interact with the children, sharing stories that brought smiles and joy to the young faces. They were deeply moved by the children's enthusiasm and impressed by their exceptional talents and spirit. The visit concluded with words of encouragement and heartfelt wishes to the students.
When Selvan spoke about today's occasion, it was truly moving to hear him refer to individuals not as "blind" in a blunt manner, but respectfully as "visually impaired." It touches the heart when we see that these individuals, through the use of Braille, have pursued education and risen to high positions in society. This is indeed a remarkable achievement — one that reflects their determination, self-confidence, and the support of the community. Calling it a “miracle” is only fair, considering the many challenges they have overcome to succeed.
Each Braille character is formed using a pattern of six dots. Through this method, they are able to complete school and college education, and appear for examinations.
Many have taken and passed competitive government exams and gone on to hold high-ranking positions — something truly worthy of praise. This proves the truth that persons with disabilities are not lesser than others — they are simply different.
Their accomplishments stand as living proof that with education, effort, and mental strength, anything is possible.
This outreach effort reflects the values of empathy, service, and inclusive care that lie at the heart of nursing education and community service.
