I did start this whole blog with the dreams of one day being able to draw better equines. So Yes. I did need this.#The true benchmark of my art progress is actually the quality of how I draw Little Apple.#(no seriously go look back at my little apple tag. Then come back here).#Hey welcome back! I know right! What was I even doing at the start? That was *not* a donkey!!!#That aside - I really am thrilled that I can draw her more. Even if she's only *really* in two more comics for season 2.#I wish I had more thoughts here. I'm so distracted by the donkey rotating in my brain. I missed her so monch.#Oh! Yeah I really like the parallels here between WWX and Little apple.#Specifically the sense of how we get a nod to how he's changed.#Little apple and WWX have both grown a little less lean and hungry (one literally the other metaphorically)#This whole episode is basically about WWX's desire for something peaceful and domestic in his life.#and here is little apple - his first companion from the start of his new life - changed to something softer.#Very much a 'look how far we have come moment' that is rather subtle but enjoyable.

Going forwards, I will be posting on alternating days, instead of daily. I have loved making lots of fun content, and I still will! Just at at half speed B’*)

#chatting #I did know this would be the case eventually…Ive been trying to post lots these last few months in anticipation #My life needs a little bit of rebalancing and I also need to rest more than I have been #I’m feeing a bit burnt out and I really do not want to take a hiatus #plus I’m dividing my creative energy on a new personal project! I want to make sure I keep some energy for myself too!#I got up very early today and was ready to make the next comic when I just felt this…overwhelming sense of #‘I just want to drink coffee and read a book before I have to go to work in a few hours’.#I love drawing so much! That said…I enjoy other things too and I’ve given a lot up to have time to draw #This is all for the best - a better balance in my own life makes for better comics and better jokes #Tis the lessons of Dungeon Meshi; you cant be at your strongest without looking after yourself.

This isn't a hyperfixation this is a part of my core personality.#This anime adaptation was beyond good. I'm so excited to see season two!

It's for him to wear in the cloud recesses because he gets cold easy.#Lan Xichen personally hand knit it for him. This is canon within this universe now.#JGY is failing his little chess game so bad in this scene. He walks up and cutely pouts at LXC to pwease help him in his schemes #And when LXC rightly points out the holes in his reasoning he gets his back up!#But *dude* how the hell are you going to explain how WWX has been doing all these crazy things when the guy was Passed Out.#LXC can even attest to it. Back to JGY holding the idiot ball here; why make a point to press about WWX staying at CR #And not take into account the fact the lan brothers have an incredibly tight bond?#Why was he even *attempting* to drive a wedge between them?#Honestly I know we love to call JGY a schemer but he was so sloppy at so many points. Everything post secret room reveal-#has been a messy scramble to cover up his past transgressions. He is struggling to keep things under control!#He currently is staying in the public favour solely on the quality of his melancholic wet eyes.#You dare accuse jin guangyao of murder? When he's so sopping wet? When he whimpers and whines without a little treat?#To bad he's shown his teeth! Sorry you aren't old enough for dentures and can't put those teeth right back in your mouth.

#poorly drawn mdzs #mdzs #wei wuxian #lan xichen #lan wangji #madam lan #This normally would have been two separate comics but I felt like it was a far better joke to have them together.#Enjoy the rare double feature comic!#I was listening to this episode - scripting out and preparing for a longer and heartfelt comic on this scene.#And then Lan Xichen pulled out his flute and started playing unprompted.#I could not contain my laughter. I know it is trying to be emotionally resonate and the flute is pretty but...#It really does have the energy of “Okay thanks for listening to my tragedies and traumas. I don't know how to segue out of this.”#This madam lan design is inspired by Qourmet's design! Really good stuff that I was not able to do more with in this one panel.#Speaking of...I know it is ambiguous on purpose and we are only told what happened through LXC's POV but...#I always interpreted madam lan's passing as a suicide. I think LXC was told it was illness to soften the blow.#She was stuck in a house with maybe a servant coming by to give her food. One day a month she saw her children.#Of course she was warm and loving in their memories-#She was trying to give them a version of her that would be remembered as such. She wanted to protect them from the truth.#She did her best but she was already dead a long time ago. She must have felt like a ghost haunting a house.#Love to her was waiting. And both her boys inherited that view of love.

#non mdzs #The real mood of this comic is:#AKA: you are in charge of designing a character but have only been given personality as a reference.#This was technically for a game dev meeting and I am part of a team rather than a contractor hired on.#But hey the anxiety going into this was still crazy high. I was playing a risky gambit.#Part two of this comic is me putting all those clowns on a powerpoint and presenting them in front of a few people.#Pointing at them and saying “Okay which clown do you like best? How can we sex up this clown more?”#I think I may be giving the impression that I’m more into clowns than I actually am. It just fit with the character okay!#I had to consult the REAL down-for-clowners for tips. Photos exchanged in the dark alleys of a discord server.#A hooded figure shakes their head at the first photo. Slowly nods as I add puffy sleeves. Nods furiously as I drop the neckline.#This clown still needs to marinate a bit more before I’m ready to present them to the wider world.#So stay tuned! They have become a delight to draw and develop!#Game dev diary #As this is part of that new arc in my life.#Can you tell I've been practicing with digital art a lot more? Boy have I ever! I'm getting stronger! And faster!

#dungeon meshi #dungeon meshi spoilers #Senshi #izutsumi #chilchuck tims #laios touden #marcille donato #THE SOUP CHAPTER HAS BEEN ANIMATED #I have so many thoughts about senshi's backstory and how much that experience has shaped who he is.#This is such a powerful moment because it makes it clear how *stuck* senshi has been because of his trauma.#Up until now he has been a mystery! He's the chef guy! Don't worry about his apparent reclusiveness from society!#Don't worry about his intense need to make sure 'the young ones are fed'!#Senshi still has a lot of healing but this was the moment he could finally forgive himself.#This chapter is so important to me because sometimes you truly do need to face the most terrifying things to move past them.#This joke here is a bit too narrow to be funny for the masses...but mdzs fans know.#MDZS :handshake: Dungeon Meshi: Soup moment.#Laios and Jiang Yanli have a powerful magic call "Eat some soup and maybe you'll feel better'#That is also a spell you can cast upon yourself. Go eat some soup and you will feel better. Merry Soupmas everyone.#One more week of Thistle Thursdays....I'm not ready to say goodbye B*(

It is not the most showy content at the moment though....but soon!#I have made more spritesheets + wrote a 20 page script for the beginning of the game + lots of mechanical stuff.#OOH and our main town has a map and I've hammered out most of the major character designs!#(I have a comic I will share later this week about how character design talk in a team setting has been going so far.)#This gif is to share a little bit of whimsy and joy with you all. Because we are having so much fun!#Fanart like this is great for practicing a new medium! Also very few people would care to see my custom windowskins.#(This gif is pre-custom windowskins sadly. This was a delightfully dark-but-funny prompt to work on.#The whole situation is twisted in every single direction...but also shout out to Madam Qin for dropping this bomb right before the wedding.#JGY also realizing that he can't cancel the wedding without putting Qin Su at risk for shame and condemnation.#The world is hard for women. Even harder for single mothers.#And sure there is the politics element but let me believe that in the moment his heart was on her safety and happiness.#This blog is a 'qin-su should be happy' zone. I still have that transmigration to SVSSS AU to draw out one day....#Or return to the Band Au. I feel like my goofs have been justified.#I love how JGY's craftiness comes into play here. Of *course* he knows about the secret library - he was a spy for a reason!#His secret skill is finding secret spots!#Like how your cat gets into spots you did not intend for them to get into.#So sad Lan Xichen didn't show JGY the library. I can't say something silly like 'haha secret lan makeout library'#...FOR THEM. This 100% was and continues to be the secret lan makeout chambers. Generations of secret kisses happened in there.#The things those scrolls and books have seen...#Next comic is a bigger one than usual! I might take a short break to get it done so it sticks the landing.#It's House of Gentians time!

None of the lan brothers are there to pick it up!#Lan Xichen is so openly like 'I trust Jin Guangyao so much! Our bond is so deep! I believe in him like you believe in wwx!'#The tension! I remember not knowing how this would go because woagh the red flags for betrayal were so strong here.#Now I have spoiler brain so I mostly see the heartbreak coming but I still remember the anxiety of thinking lxc would betray lwj.#The way LXC compares his relationship to JGY is so funny to me. They aren't technically canon but...like....come on.#LXC *also* lets on that he knows LWJ has feelings for WWX. The implications are the loudest subtext I have seen.#Personally I see it as romantically one-sided on LXCs side. I think JGY knows and LXC denies his heart.#I think the tragedy is that JGY can't move past his need to make everything a game of chess to see LXC as more than an oppertunity #Here's the bigger tragedy: The one time he followed his heart...it led him to Qin-Su. Whom he loved dearly!#but...oh god was that ever a massive disaster that must have been internalized as 'following my heart is a mistake I can never make again.'#Ah - Happy Puffy Sleeves WWX debut day! We finally made it!#I'm personally a fan of the happy accident of WWX having white sleeves for this arc B*)

The PD-MDZS WWX who was asleep for 40 comics and 4 months is an outlier.#We are back to present day! I have missed drawing them!#Ah...the contrast between how the flashback ended (cold and distrustful) to how wwx wakes up (warm and watched over)...#The gap between the past and present is very important. Not just in this story but in our lives too.#The past can still hurt and it doesn't just go away with time as some say. It is the power of realizing that things have changed.#We can't get the good back. The bad memories have concluded. Those live somewhere else now.#It is hard to realize that you have to live for today and tomorrow. The past is so loud.#For WWX it is realizing that despite the mistrust in the past - He really does have faith that LWJ will be there for him.#It is the reflection of knowing that you changed and will keep changing and that change is good and kind sometimes.#But more importantly...and this I really do mean with all my heart:#It will all end up okay in the end. Even after the worst day. The most painful losses. You will get through it.#What feels like a breaking point is truthfully just another step you have to take. You'll get through it even though it feels like the end.#There are wonderful things you have yet to see. Friends you have yet to meet.#Even if it hurts so badly...one day it just aches. Someday you'll go a few weeks not remembering that it ever hurt.#Oh and because my izutsumi comic revealed many people were in need of hearing this:#You are loved. Right now. You are so loved right now. We just forget to tell each other that.#Go tell the people you love that they matter to you. I'm assigning you homework!!! You are graded on completion.

I'm back to my extremely obscure crossover BS.#Punpun is one of those series that falls under the category of 'Good! but I cannot responsibly recommend this to anyone."#If Dungeon Meshi is like a friend asking you to go on a quick errand and you accidently go on a life changing roadtrip -#Punpun is your friend asking to go on a quick errand and they pull up to the vet and tell you your dog is being put down.#Then they explode into sludge. Melting your car. You hitchhike back but the person who picked you up is an axe murderer.#I could not finish it. My friends who did say it was good. But agree it was for the best I did not finish it.#Hey speaking of tone twists...We are one episode away from one of my favourite chapters being animated!#WHO'S READY FOR THE SENSHI BACKSTORY! WHO IS READY TO CRY!#ME! I AM! I spooked my flatmate with how energetic I was this morning. I'm vibrating with energy I was not designed to contain.#I should talk about today's episode here: It was very good. I love how they animated the familiars.#And!!! Anime only people now are in the loop on the Chilchuck lore. Part 1 of many. He still contains multitudes.#They all do to be honest! I take the 1000 blows every day.#Also...sorry that this comic is a lot rougher than usual. #ask #non-mdzs #I have a hunch you will not recall sending this to me but I wish to immortalize it.#The progression of me going 'aw' to 'barking with laughter' at the last bit of this message was a delight.#Oh man what to say about getting into MDZS...#I admit I'm probably low on the list of people who should be recommending it.#I enjoy it! But there are also a ton of different adaptations that each do a slightly different thing with the story and characters.#Personally I loved The Untamed (Netflix live action) for how campy the action was. It got emotional but really...It made me laugh.#And I love watching it with people because it also makes them laugh.#(The Untamed changes a lot of plot elements so it isn't looked upon very favourably by many fans. I love it as its own thing)#Don't get me wrong; it *is* a story with interesting things to say and I certainly have written tons of analysis on it.#But it's also a series I spent over a year making parody comics of. It comes from a place of love!#The audio drama is really good and I think it might be the best form of mdzs...however finding episodes is not easy.#The audio drama is also what I'm basing all these comics on!#There is a book (the primary source) An animated series and a comic to check out as well.#Someone probably has a better pitch and recommendation list than I do. I just make the funny comics.

We're still early into development but it's coming along B*)#Originally the playable character was the horse and the NPC you talk to was WWX but I asked to switch it up for this gif.#We will be changing the window skin for dialogue portraits so no handmade art there yet.#My friend added the official art as a placeholder and it made me laugh very hard.#The thrill of seeing the little guys I spent hours drawing walk around is unparalleled!!! They are alive!!! Moving!!!

#poorly drawn mdzs #mdzs #wei wuxian #lan wangji #pixel art #game dev diary #When you read these tags please imagine it is at my bedside in a candlelit room as I lay in bed shaking with fever.#I weakly hand you an envelope with these spritesheets and you have to lean in to hear my rasping voice.#Because I *know* this is probably really straightforward to a lot of artists.#But this is my first time doing something like this *EVER*. I am so far outside of my comfort zone!#But *who* is pd-mdzs if not that art blog that keeps you all on your toes for what to expect?#For someone who has never done pixel art I think I did okay! I have learned a lot B*)#The more exciting news is that THESE ACUALLY WORK. They can run around and be put into situations!#(Well...the *original* files work; these are screenshots. The real files are microscopically small)#Get ready for a new era of content while I continue to learn more about sprite art and animation.#I have a lot of other assets to practice making so seriously; get ready for some wild MDZS (and Dungeon Meshi) fake game clips.#I want to recreate some scenes in the game engine to practice and experiment! I think that's really fun!#Next up is dialogue window icons and then battle art!
