Her eyes say it all. Savannah’s gaze is soft and loyal, she’s a beautiful dog who has sadly passed and dearly missed. Her mum called her “Savannah Nanna” so I’m capturing her caring and loyal nature in her painting so Savannah’s spirit can live on in art, and in her mums heart. ~ Savannah is Rhodesian Ridgeback, a breed that has innate abilities as a guardian. Ridges generally have a quiet and gentle temperament winning over many hearts if you have the pleasure to meet one. ~ I’m looking forward to working more on Savannah’s painting this weekend. The adorable Rascal is the lucky pup on the June Pop Art Puppy Calendar! More pop art puppies than ever before! I’m happy to tell you that last month has been the busiest yet with over 50 dogs booked into my painting schedule!! I'm so excited to have so many pups lined up for portraits that I had to count them twice to make sure it was correct. To give you an idea of how record breaking this is.. last year I had the pleasure to paint a total of 20 dogs and 1 cat. Needless to say my paint brush and iPad are going to get a work out this year. ~ It blows me away to look back on this first painting I did of Finn and see how far I’ve come with Pop Art Puppy Dogs, and I feel like I’m still only the beginning of the journey. ~ As there is only one of me this does mean that now I’m taking bookings for 2019. When your dogs are infinitely more rad that you will ever be! Thanks @hellopethaus for the new threads. Had to share with you how super cool Finn & Budd look in their hoodies and denim jackets. ~ We discovered Pethaus at the Dog Lovers Show, while I was at my art display, my husband went to do the rounds to collect as many free treats as possible for the pups and found these guys. Lucky for us they have a pop up store with @animalsincharge so we dropped by last weekend with Finn and Budd to do some shopping. ~ Only thing left now is to order some patches to put on their jackets of their favourite bands such as “bark sabbath”, “motorhound” and “judas pooch” Haha! ~ The things we do for our fur babies.. Please tell me something.. would you get an ID tag with your pet’s portrait on it? ~ Please let me know what you think of this idea because I think they are a pretty cute accessory for your dogs collar, just want to know if you guys feel the same way! They would have your contact details on the back in case you have an escapee pup and you could even get a matching one for yourself as a little charm. ~ I’ve recently experienced the value in having your contact details on your pup’s tag because Budd decided he wanted freedom and worked out how to jump the fence while we were at work! Lucky he didn’t get far and was found by our neighbours but so glad they could call us straight away to let us know he was safe. ~ We’ve since made the fence a bit higher and so far so good with keeping our little run away in the yard. Today’s sketch is inspired by a slightly nervous Bernese Mountain Dog I met named Deidre. This beautiful pup wasn’t to confident when in a room full of people, shy and sweet she stuck by her mum very closely. After a few days around everyone, her confidence slowly grew and although still shy in nature, she realised it wasn’t too bad getting all the attention. But I bet she was glad to get home at the end of the day. ~ This year I made the choice to come out from behind my easel and get to know you and your pups better. I’m quite introverted as you might expect but I’m being brave to put myself and my art out in the world for you to enjoy. Even sketches like this one. ~ It’s a decision I’m ever so glad I made. I’m so grateful for the amount of new friends I’ve made these last few months and people and pups I’ve had the pleasure to meet. Looking forward to what’s ahead! ~ Bernese Mountain Dogs are super strong and eager to please, bred to pull carts with food and supplies across the Swiss Alps. They can haul up to 1000 pounds which is 10 times their own weight. ~ I might have more in common with Deidre than I realise, gaining more confidence and putting in the work to bring my ideas to life which are bigger then I could ever imagine. Scruffy the Portuguese Water Dog’s portrait is all printed and ready to go to its forever home. So very happy with the quality of the canvas print and in the words of Scruffy’s mum it “looks INCREDIBLE” ~ I particularly love how Scruffy’s fur looks, Portie’s do not shed their wavy or curly fur so they are great pets for people with allergies.
