When it comes to freedom of expression many things fall into this category including the medium of video entertainment. Today YouTube is the biggest video host online and used all over the would. Though recently it had come under scrutiny when LGBT members found there videos were unavailable to many of the younger people essentially putting censorship and age restrictions on content that was perfectly fine. while YouTube claims the whole things was an accident its the fact that it was able to happen in the first place that makes it rather unbelievable in a time that is becoming increasingly more and more accepting of the LGBT community.

Cultural Citizenship -- Feminism
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-nmxnmt_XU
I decided to use a video clip from MTV's "Bralesss" that discusses Feminist issues. Today in class we talked about Feminism. An important part of Feminism that I do not feel is paid enough attention is Intersectionality. This means looking at Feminism from other cultures, instead of solely focusing on the majority (white women). This ties in with our cultural discussion as well as Identity Politics, as it is a social issue. It is important to focus on social issues with multi-cultural lenses.

Legal Controls
http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2016/06/16/copyright-infringement-case-involving-stairway-to-heaven-continues-in-court/
This week, as we are learning about legal controls, I selected an article about a claimed copyright breach from lead guitarist and founder of Led Zepplin, Jimmy Page, who supposedly violated the copyright of the song "Taurus" by Spirit. The beginning of the famous song "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zepplin was supposedly copied from the song by Spirit. Jimmy Page claimed that he knew of no such thing and had never even heard of Spirit's first album with the song "Taurus" until only recently. The article itself reviews what was said during the court case regarding the accusation against Page and the claims he makes, specifically regarding the issue with truly hearing the album before writing “Stairway to Heaven” or not. This particular case connects to our readings in regards to copyright infringement. Copyright, as defined by the textbook, “legally protects the rights of authors and producers to their published or unpublished” works. Infringement of that would mean that someone is breaking the rules in simple terms and claiming what is not theirs. Such form of theft is one of the most common lawsuits, especially in the entertainment world like this particular example. Often times people will claim that ideas are stolen for new things from old things, and this can be seen in more than just the music industry. Several movies of the same genre have even faced accusations of stealing the concept from other movies. The problem in this situation is that by law, copyright of the song “Taurus” is still in effect, despite the Spirit founder having passed away. Claims can be made left and right, but it will be hard to determine who has the right in this case due to this law and the fact that Page is claiming that the accusation is false.

Week 16 Legal Controls and Freedom of Expression
As the topic for this week deals heavily with things like copyright, a great modern example of copyright and copyright infringement in modern pop culture involves none other than pop singer Bruno Mars. Mars' hit 2014 song "Uptown Funk" received a complaint of copyright infringement from the 1980's band Collage, claiming that "many of the main instrumental attributes and themes of “Uptown Funk” are deliberately and clearly copied from “Young Girls,”... rendering the compositions almost indistinguishable if played over each other and strikingly similar if played in consecutively. Below is a video with a side by side comparison of the two songs, which shows strikingly similar sounds. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Hd4V05vIKZU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Chapter 16: Legal Controls and Freedom of Expression
The History of Free Speech Archive directly correlates to our learning this week. In this archive, it provides illustrations and detailed text responses that connects to certain eras and what they stood for in the means of Free Speech. This page dates back to 1215, and the origination of Magna Carta, all the way to our current state in the US during the year 2010. It discusses speech, press, and racial oppression. Because of it's vast history, it covers a large part of how the US in general came to be due to the constitution and other historic events.

Week 16—Legal Controls and Freedom of Expression
Allen Ginsberg’s poem “Howl” is a classic modern poem. It was released in 1955 and then published in 1956 as the main poem in Ginsberg’s collection Howl and Other Poems. I’ve studied this poem in at least three literature courses, and we’ve always covered how Ginsberg was brought to trial on basis on the poem’s obscene, pornographic, and blatantly homosexual content. The “Howl” obscenity trial brought to light questions of freedom of expression, and caused many poets and writers to doubt how much control the government should have over art.

I found an article online about the “national” day of 4/20. On 4/20 at 4:20pm it is common for some people to smoke marijuana. In Penticton's Gyro Park a small group from the community gathered to celebrate this holiday. They talked about how they have used marijuana for a long time not only for pleasure but to get rid of stress and pain. They enjoy this freedom they can now have since it has become legal in some states. They talked about how they have been using marijuana for a while and how it has become a daily routine for some of them. A lot of the people that gathered there were patients for it.

This chapter is all about freedom of speech and the right to privacy. When reading this chapter I immediately thought of Edward Snowden who worked for the Central Intelligence agency up until he decided to leak information that the government was spying on Americans through surveillance programs which was against the right to privacy. The right to privacy is a person’s right to be left alone, without their name, daily activities, or image becoming public property. He was later charged for espionage and had to flee the country to avoid going to prison.

week 16: Freedom of expression
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg-be2r7ouc
In the above link is the trailer for Micheal Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11. This is a very good example of self expression. This film that was made by Micheal Moore is a very intense depiction of the bush administration. They way the film is being told holds nothing back at all. Moore is tryin to get across a message that the american government would disagree with but since Moore has his freedom of expression he was allowed to make this film.

Week Twelve: Public Relations
For this week's post, I decided to share an example of a sponsored video. This one is of youtuber, Jackie Aina, demonstrating how these Clinque products work within her skincare routine. Notice in the title how it says it's a sponsored video. Beauty bloggers and other paid spokespeople must disclose that they made a video featuring a certain company's products to their viewers in order to remain ethical within the business.

This picture was posted by famous singer, Beyoncé, on Instagram announcing her pregnancy with twins with her rapper husband Jay-Z. This information spread across the internet in a matter of seconds after being posted and got everyone talking on social media. This picture post was a type of press release, which was a term in our reading. Press release is a news release, or announcements written in a news report style that reveals new information about a person into the media.

I found an article about the company Rocket55 hiring veteran Brant Skogrand as their new PR. Rocket55 is a firm known for web design as well as content marketing and other digital services. The article discussed topics from social media blurring to Skogrand leading his new job to better end clients in relations and digital marketing. This company isn’t doing very well in getting their business out via social media or marketing so they hired Skogrand to become the new face and take over.

Framing comes about when media focuses on a certain topic and depicts that topic in a light to determine and control viewers feelings toward that topic. Framing comes about in all media from current events, politics, reviews, and many others. Julianne Shinto, CEO of Imprimatur, is a leading political branding strategist, she has worked with top officials including two presidents. In this video she is describing micro and macro-gestures that help somebody deliver and frame a message. Macro-gestures are gestures that everybody can recognize and control. Micro-gestures are very important to the framing of messages. These help her pick up and read messages that somebody is delivering.

Week 14:
This week is focused on magazines. Like most paper based products magazines have converted to digital. This artifact is an example of that convergence. According to our book the access to the web and other apps have shown magazine companies that they have unlimited space. Instead of spending money to print their material, Cosmopolitan has gone digital. Using a website now gives them the ability to use video, audio, podcasts and social networks to promote their magazine.

The world of written articles and paper mediums in today's society is rapidly changing in order to conform with modern normality and have for some time. Magazines today in an Age of Specialization have had to adapt in order to still hold an audience as they might have only a few years before. One example is this video series by Motor trend and hot rod magazine that have come together to create new content in order to draw in viewers and thus interest more people in there actual magazines. Because of things like this that magazines have been able to live through an age of new digital means.
