So, looks like I’m actually going to sell Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur cover #1!! I just put it up on Ebay. The auction ends Thursday evening. In addition to being a cool buy for Devil Dinosaur fans, this is the first finished image of Moon Girl that I’d ever drawn, and I designed her, myself! Not to mention, of course, the debut of the series.
Check it out here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191759905458?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
Please spread the word!

Paul Pope’s original art to the variant cover for MOON GIRL & DEVIL DINOSAUR #3. In-stores Jan 27, 2016.
Short version: today is the last day for comic stores to order copies of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #3. Tell your local shop you want a copy. They can use order code NOV150820 to order copies of the regular edition (w/ Amy Reeder cover). Talk to them if you’re interested in getting the Paul Pope cover.
Long version: I know a lot of fans want to support this new book and/or like to learn about the inner workings of the comics biz. So here it is!
Publishers, retailers, and reporters put a huge emphasis on #1s. They do killer sales and set the pace for the remainder of the series. But everyone can tell you that the ultimate long-term fate of a comic is usually better indicated by sales on #2, #3, #4. When a book holds a lot of its audience past the first issue, that sends a message to retailers and the publishers about how strong the fanbase is. MG launched huge, and your continued support on January’s #3 is hugely important. Tell your stores you want copies!
I’m going to go back to before the beginning: Marvel always had a good feeling about this book. That’s flattering to me and Amy, and Nat. But even better: Marvel was able to capitalize on all the great prelaunch hype when the comic was announced. The demand and anticipation was phenomenal. Initial orders for #1 were good, all the extra copies were reordered to cause a sell out, and a new printing is on it’s way (more copies of #1 will be in stores Jan 13, 2016).
#2 is going to be in stores this week, Dec 23 2015. Unfortunately, due to printing, distribution and the HOLIDAYS (that time, Thanksgiving in the US), retailers had to order “blind” on #2. That is, they did not get to experience the sales on #1 before they finalized their orders on #2. Retailers order books every week, and occasionally they have to guess. There are usually standard drops between #1 and #2… but fortunately for MG&DD, orders stayed way above the average cut (I’ve been told the numbers). So there are already many of retailers with faith in the series.
#3 is in stores Jan 27 2015. And again, the retailers are ordering “blind” (this time, X-Mas). Orders for #3 are due today, Dec 21 2015. Since #2 won’t arrive for two more days, they don’t have any sales data to inform their orders. So readers: help them out! Say you want a copy. Call them up today and let them know you don’t want to miss an issue.
And retailers: if you feel you cut too much on #2s after experiencing the sales on #1… re-order, of course! But if you can’t get #2s–there are going to be plenty in circulation, so there’s a better chance customers will be coming back to your store for #3.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #3 is written by Brandon Montclare & Amy Reeder, drawn by Natacha Bustos, colored by Tamra Bonvillan, lettered by Travis Lanham, and edited by Emily Shaw & Mark Paniccia for Marvel Comics.

Marvel’s Newest Superhero Is Worth Your Attention
Marvel is introducing Lunella Lafayette, a Black teen superhero in the upcoming comic “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.” The character Lunella is inspired by a short-lived Marvel classic released 40 years ago called “Devil Dinosaur,” which told the story of a T-Rex and his male friend. This new take on the previous comic will surround the dinosaur’s friendship with Lunella, which Entertainment Weekly describes as “a pre-teen super genius.”

Guys, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur debuts TOMORROW!! IT’S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!!!! Do do do do, do do doot doot do!
Find out how kid inventor Lunella Lafayette, or Moon Girl, makes the unlikeliest of friends. It’s our new book with Marvel, written by me and Brandon Montclare. I’m also drawing covers.
What I’m REALLY excited about is you getting to enjoy the interiors by the great Natacha Bustos. She’s sort of a newcomer and she’s about to blow you away. Check out this art, with vivid colors by Tamra Bonvillain.

‘Agnus Dei‘ For Qpop Shop’s GAINAX Show
My painting for the Gainax show tonight at 7pm in Q2. I’ve got a soft spot for Evangelion. A gross, creepy, mutilated soft spot. I was probably way too young to watch this when I did, but robots with teeth and guts? There was no going back.
Check it out along with a bunch of other crazy artists!

Mirror is a four part sci-fantasy story arc, created by Hwei Lim and yours truly, that will run from November to February published by Image Comics.
Connected with the 8house universe it follows the House of Healers, a noble magical guild focussed on flesh and body magic.
Each issue will contain 28 pages ( out of 32 ) of comic narrative: a main story written by me and drawn by Hwei and short epilogues written by Hwei and drawn by me, directly connected, to show more quiet and intimate interactions within the characters that will bring more light to the intrigue. I’ll also draw the rest of the backmatter that will include concept art, designs, timeline keys, a glossary… all in watercolors.
We describe the first book like this in the previews:
What is worthy of being human? EMMA RÍOS (PRETTY DEADLY, ISLAND) and HWEI LIM (LALAGE, HERO) team up to tell a new story within the 8HOUSE universe. MIRROR follows a terrorist talking dog, an idealist mage and a heroic lab rat on their quest for acceptance.
The rest will include animal rebellions, captured aliens, unfortunate quests, mythological creatures, misconceived humans, impossible love… and, in general, lots of drama.
The official title, or numbering, is 8house #6 Mirror Part One (of 4) and will be in stores on November the 12th.
This is a rather small book, and preordering helps a lot. If it works we may be even able to continue developing the universe. Here is a pdf with the preorder form we did to make things easier. You can download it directly from here:
Click.
All these characters are precious to us and we are putting a lot of effort on the book. We truly hope you like it.
PSst…
If you want to know more about 8house you can read this great article Zainab wrote for Comics and Cola. And maybe take a look at this one where I tried to explain how the magic between the different teams works.
Also, just so you know, 8house Kiem by Xurxo and Brandon is out next week, and it’s to die for.
Thanks a lot for your support. Always.

These photos hardly do Issue 2 of ISLAND any justice. The magazine does not disappoint. Each of the two issues have been packed with content but unlike it’s predecessors; Heavy Metal, Epic Illustrated and the like, Island is devoid of advertising. Surprisingly this gives something this rich and well put together a strangely mysterious vibe. It’s like finding a house in the woods with no roads leading up to it but the table set and the cupboards fully stocked. It’s an engaging book, from the beauty of Will Kirkby’s opening spread, the humor of Brandon Graham’s intro, Ludroe’s finale of Dagger Proof Mummy, the wild Habitat by Simon Roy (a rad blend of his work on Prophet and his own Tiger Lung), Emma Rios’ lush cover art and the finish of her I.D. Story, and the cinema sewer finish from Robin Bougie, there is bound to be something in there for you. Even my 6 year old daughter became enamored of the cover art. She held the book for a while before I engaged her about it. We ended up discussing it for a good half an hour with her deciding that it reminded her of the river dragon in Spirited Away “except it’s a girl”. The real excitement to be found here is where does it go next? How does it change and transmutate with age? If they keep going like this it will age like the proverbial fine wine. I have to admit I’m nervous every time a new one comes out. Sounds dumb but in my 44 years roaming the Earth I’ve found that when something comes along that’s this good, something that fires on all cylinders that it doesn’t last - that it can’t last. But fuck it, buy it and read it ragged and if it stays I won’t kick it out of bed, and if it goes let it go out in a blaze of glory because it’s better to burn out than to fade away.
