A celebration of community, music and art. Lots of excitements in store - full info to come over the next few weeks, but for now, feast your eyes on this joyous line up - suitable for all ages!
Semispecific Ensemble - improvised amateur jazz, interplanetary electronics; ever-changing psychedelic mutations. Always different and often unique.
Bear - Swapping her mechanical orchestra for an acoustic guitar Bear (AKA Sarah Kenchington) resurrects some truly mesmerising songs from a former life. Featuring live Projections From B. Gilbert Scott and guest vocals from Ceylan Hay.
Mercuro-Chrome - field recordings, fractured samples, kick drums and surrealist poetry. Equally confusing, surprising and delightful.
Reverse Engineer - Outstanding adventurous ambient electronics from Edinburgh based pioneering producer Dave House.
Bell Lungs - Ceylan Hay collects objects and instruments and uses them alongside her voices to create thickly layered live-looped improvisations transporting you into a hazy world of mystic creatures and heady dreams.

Lunch Time Special

Listen back to the Practice Good Practice lunchtime special on clydebuilt radio. I had a blast making these - picking and mixing music and recording exclusive sessions with some of my favorite artists. Monday was just me with some big monday tunes, tuesday had Bell Lungs in session, Wedneday I had Sarah Kenchington in the studio, Thursday was a special mix from the reverse engineer of some of his recent unreleased productions and friday was Semispecific Ensemble in session. enjoy!

I cannot tell you how excited I am for this next gig! Sarah is one of those artists who I feel has really developed their own musical language. Over the last 20 years she has developed and built a set of amazingly intricatre mechanical musical instruments that allow her to create such suprising and captivating performances. Think Pierre Bastien covering Rashed Becker or maybe some really unique free jazz that doesn't just sound how its supposed to. She'll be bringing all her instruments along to the shack, performing live and doing some improvised collaborations with Semispecific Ensemble. Semispecific will also be playing live and trying out a brand new installation type work at the start of the night. We’re going to experiment with a pay-what-you-can ticket pricing structure with suggested tiers. Presales will be available and all the money will be split equally between everyone playing on the night. We’d really appreciate it if you bought tickets in advance as it helps us budget stuff but you will also be able to pay on the door. tickets: https://practicegoodpractice.bandcamp.com/merch

soft tissue + Semispecific Ensemble
Sunday 7th November
8pm
Rumshack
Pay-What-You-Can tickets: https://practicegoodpractice.bandcamp.com/merch
I am delighted to finally have my good friends soft tissue coming to play in the Rumshack. soft tissue are Feronia Wennborg and Simon Weins. They have a wonderful debut album issued by Penultimate Press back in 2019 and a new LP titled "Hi, Leaves" forthcoming on Students of Decay early next year.
I had them booked for play my “good gigs for tough times” parties back in March last year but then as we all know the world well and truly went to shit. But you can't keep a good thing down and now we're back up and running, re-enthused and joyful and its finally happening on Sunday 7th November which is a week on sunday. Go grab your Pay-What-You-Can advance tickets not, please and thank you.
soft tissue make intimate, playful sound work that I can't really describe. I asked Alex Cobb who runs Students of Decay and he came up with this
“soft tissue inhabit an intoxicating soundworld somewhere in between the patient abstractions of composerly eai music, the haptic indulgences of ASMR, and the diffuse digital pastorals of the 90’s a-musik/Cologne scene. “
which seems about right to me.
Its maybe going to be more of a listening session than a dance party so we're going to have some extra seats set up so everyone can get comfy and settle in for an evening of extrodinary sounds. I'll play some music by other people and throughout the night there will be a number of live improvised interventions from soft tissue and semispecific ensemble and some brand new combinations there of. And hey, maybe there will be some dancing at the end depending on how much wine we've all drunk.
We're going to be doing a SPECIAL FEATURE to promote the night airing 7pm on Thursday 4th of November on Clyde Built Radio. Expect some picks from Feronia and Simon, some exclusive music from their forthcoming LP, and some murky collage dj stuff from me.

Exclusive free Semispecific Ensemble album with all £5+ advance tickets to our Rumshack show next weekend
Thanks to those who have already bought advance tickets for the e show. You CAN pay on the door but its NICE if you buy in advance
Buy tickets here: https://practicegoodpractice.bandcamp.com/merch As an incentive I'm giving away an exclusive Semispecific Ensemble album with all advance tickets over £5. Its called Daydreaming with Semispecific Ensemble, its very chill and was recorded on a sunny day last month. I'm trying a pay-what-you-can sliding scale honesty system. Its not going to be particularly policed so you could easy take advantage of it but that would be lame Suggested ticket pricing:
£0-3 - I’m proper skint but this sounds amazing and i want to be there*
£5 - I’m just trying to get through this shit show like everyone else. Can forgo a pint to pay the band.
£7 - I’m doing ok and this seems cool £10+ I’ve got some spare money and I want to directly support the artists/events like this. Also am a total baller
all money goes directly to everyone involved in the night and enables us to do stuff like this so your support is hugely valued. thanks Charlie xxx

Public Experiments
A new monthly experimental music party at the Rumshack in Glasgow.
youtube
With Semispecific Ensemble as house band and an exciting roster of guest artists lined up for the coming months:
Sunday September 5th Semispecific Ensemble
Sunday October 3rd Helena Celle
Sunday November 7th Soft Tissue
Sunday December 12th Sarah Kenchington
8pm-11ish
Each month will have its own vibe shaped around whatever the artist wants to do. I’ll be djing between live acts with a somewhat messy and sprawling music policy spanning ambient, drone and spacey funk, fusion & free jazz gently building into some wild wierdo mind-melters and dancefloor bangers. It’ll be a trip.

Covid Policy
Throughout the pandemic we feel the rumshack has led by example and figured out ways to operate responsibly. We’ve worked closely with them and feel we can safely go ahead with these fairly low key, local experimental shows. We’ll continue to adapt as the situation evolves and all shows are subject to change if needed. Ultimately its a big space and we’re programming fairly niche music so you should be able to do your thing on the dancefloor and enjoy the live music without being too crammed in.
Here is the venues covid policy. Seriously, just do a test and dont come if you’re not well.
The venue will be operating a reduced capacity.
• Face coverings must be worn:
• On entry to the venue
• Whilst ordering / queueing at the bar
• When going to / returning from and using the toilet facilities
• Going to / returning from smoking outside
• When exiting the venue
• No access for venue attendees will be given to the main bar/restaurant from inside the building, anyone wishing to gain entry to main bar/restaurant must attempt to do so from pavement entrance
** The Rum Shack will not request proof of negative lateral flow / PCR tests however we strongly advise to test before you attend an event and if you test positive or are generally feeling unwell then we ask that you stay away.
