I see a person jogging on a trail. I see a hand pointing to the left. I see little child on the bottom...What do you see? Or, Maybe instead, I should ask how does it make you feel?

As the WNBA enters its’ 20th season, I must talk about the one and only Lisa Leslie. Leslie is a three time WNBA MVP, four-time Olympic gold medal winner and former Model. Leslie played college ball at USC and set several Pac-10 conference records for points and rebounds. Leslie began her WNBA career in 1997 with the Los Angeles Sparks franchise and retired with the Sparks in 2009. Leslie was regarded as "the face of the WNBA.” Leslie is the first WNBA player to ever slam dunk the ball during a game. “Don't Let The Lipstick Fool You" (and the title of her book), Lisa Leslie was an unstoppable center. In 2015, Lisa Leslie was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basket Ball Hall of Fame.

I must admit I only watched the Celtics game to observe I.T's performance. I also thought he played well.
Tumblr media
It’s NBA playoff time and things aren’t going as anticipated. The Boston Celtics are the number one seed and they are playing the Chicago Bulls who are the number eight seed. So far they have played two games of the series and the Bulls took the win in both games. That makes the Boston Celtics only the second No. 1 seed to ever start a playoff series and go down 2-0 against an 8 seed. Some are saying that the Celtics are the worst No. 1 seed in twenty years. Is this actually the case? I don’t think so. Star player for the Celtics, Isaiah Thomas, lost his younger sister on Saturday. Although he played great in Game 1 and scored 20 points in Game 2, he is playing with a heavy heart. I’m sure most of his teammates are as well. He flew home for his sister’s funeral after Game 2, but is expected to return for Game 3 on Friday. I’m hoping that the funeral gives him a sense of closure. We will see how the rest of the series plays out, but I am still rooting for the Celtics. Isaiah Thomas has already proved that he has heart and that he is an inspiration. Go Celtics!!

Paul George suffered an “open tibia- fibula fracture” meaning he broke both of his lower leg bones. And yes, this type of injury is very disgusting. Recovery usually involves the insertion of rods to stabilize the bones and multiple sessions with a physiotherapist. For Paul to have experienced such a devastating injury, he seems to be playing better than he did before the injury.
Tumblr media
This is one of the main reasons why I’m such a big fan of Paul George. In a exhibition game, essentially a scrimmage, between the White and Blue USA teams. They were in the middle of the game when Paul George tried to go up and get a chase down block. He landed awkwardly n laid on the ground. My first instinct was “man get up, these NBA players be acting so soft.” Then they showed it in slow-mo… He literally broke his leg in half and had to sit out a whole season. But he didn’t let that get him down like a lot of players would be, he actually came back and worked his way back up to the top to be one of the premier players in the league to this day.

What do you think of Miles taking the final shot in Saturday’s game?
Tumblr media
Paul George is one of the best, if not the best, two-way players in the game. He’s known for defending the opposing team’s best player, and going down on the offensive end and being the Pacer’s best player. His particular play style is special because he can really do it all, which is why he’s one of my favorite players in the league right now. He can go from blocking someone to going coast to coast for a fast break dunk easily. In this particular picture it was the 2013 Eastern Conference Finals (the series right before the finals) and Paul George blew past Lebron James for the easy SLAM on top of Chris “Birdman” Anderson. This was one of the most “turnt” series in recent history, it was so competitive which is something we haven’t seen recently. Not only was it a great series because of all the games it was great because it was the beginning of Paul George’s break out in the league, as he was coming into his own as a great upcoming new Superstar in the league.

An athlete’s decision to play in a game after the death of a family member or a loved one is a risky and personal decision. The athlete’s physical, cognitive or emotional state can negatively affect their performance. An athlete’s performance may be sluggish or they may make frequent mistakes. An Athlete may also be more susceptible to injury. However, when an athlete is experiencing grief, like in the case of Isaiah Thomas, the decision to play may help to lessen the intensity of what the athlete is experiencing. Isaiah led the Celtics with 33 points in 38 minutes, however the Bulls won 106-102. I’m sorry for your loss I.T.

Some things are bigger than basketball. Thoughts and Prayers to I.T. and his family after his sister was killed in a car crash this morning. Stay strong, Isaiah

Can we talk about the Los Angeles Clippers? The Clippers, formerly known as the San Diego Clippers moved to Los Angeles in 1984. The Clippers faced many challenges since arriving in Los Angeles back in 1984. The team, unlike their highly successful neighbors the Los Angeles Lakers, failed to reach play off status. Several years later, and with a new coach, Larry Brown, in 1992, the clippers finished with their first winning season 23-12 mark for a 45-37 overall. Fast forward to 2010, the clippers acquired skilled players such as Blake Griffin (power forward), DeAndre Jordon (center), and Chris Paul (point guard). In 2013 the Clippers won their first division title. As of 2017, once again, the Clippers seek to write a new chapter. They hope to make it over the playoff hump (the second round). “This team has grown a lot,” says Blake Griffin. The “Big Three,” Griffin, Paul, and De Andre Jordan are still pursuing their first title, will they do it? I’ll be watching.

Forgive me GP, but I also have basketball love for this braided, bandanna wearing NBA warrior, Allen Iverson. Allen Iverson was tough on the basketball court and easy on the eyes (this man was fine). For 14 years Allen played both shooting and point guard positions. Allen was drafted with the first overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers and was voted 1996-1997 Rookie of the season and MVP for 2000-2001 season. At 6ft tall, and in his rookie year, “Bubba Chuck” (Allen Iverson) teased Michael Jordan with his signature crossover and score. Allen Iverson accomplished many NBA goals, 4 scoring titles, 10 all-star appearances, and 2 all-star MVP awards.

Phil Jackson’s coaching style highlighted the mental game of basketball. Coach Jackson understood the importance of psychology in sports. He believed players had to have a strong mind in order to have a strong performance on the court.
Tumblr media
Phil Jackson has got to be one of the all around best coaches in the NBA.  I didn’t know of Coach Phil in his playing days, as a matter of fact I’d never heard of him until he began coaching the Chicago Bulls and lead them thru his coaching to the NBA finals and Championship.  As far as I’m concerned this man, Coach Phil is the perfect example of a natural born leader.  This gentleman not only lead the Chicago Bulls to 6 championship rings but then went on to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to 5 championship rings as well.  That is quite a feat for one man, or rather one coach!

My heart goes out to this “fragile” NBA point guard. Since the beginning of Derrick’s professional career, he has experienced several common basketball related injuries, a sprained wrist, sprained big toe, a back injury, groin injury, a fracture to orbital bone, a torn ACL and a torn meniscus in his left knee. Any Derrick Rose fan knows that this man does not want to be “one of these old players that have to take meds or pain killers” and any Derrick Rose fan knows that Derrick “wants to be healthy and able to walk at his son’s graduation”. Despite all of Derrick’s past injuries, Derick has been able to get back on the court.
Tumblr media
Another all time favorite of mine is none other than Derrick Rose.  An amazing point guard who was a first round draft pick for the Chicago Bulls.  This extraordinary player has is a 3x all star as well as an MVP.  Not to mention he was voted Rookie of the year in 2009.  He played with the Chicago Bulls for 7 seasons before being traded to the New York Knicks.  I believe if it hadn’t been for his knee injury he may have gotten a championship ring while with the Chicago Bulls.

If the glove fits you must give it to Gary Dwayne Payton! Gary Payton played for the Seattle Super Sonics for 13 years and holds a Seattle Franchise record in points, assists, and steals. The "Glove" is my favorite NBA point guard and the best trash talker on the court ever!
