So do we think that Jack went from being an active suicide risk to an inactive one not because he's no longer afraid, but because he's unsure of what might come next and that it could be even more devastating than his current life? He doesn't want to find out what could be worse than losing his wife, his parents, and a third of his leg, all within just ten years.

He doesn't want to know what follows after the crippling depression, the PTSD episodes, the panic attacks, and watching the people he loves most die around him. That fear of what might come next is what’s stopping him, not any deep desire to continue living.

Because there's still a tiny part of his mind that believes in resurrections, in other lives and maybe the next one would be even worse than this. And he doesn’t want to find out prematurely.

That’s why he’s still alive.
