                             HAPPY HUNGER GAMES. —— The mantra was meant to bring solidarity, enforce trust in the president. This was right, it was good ; A PRIVILEGE. For a few District’s, many believed it, too. The same couldn’t be said for the small and starving mining District of Twelve however, and despite the fact that mayors daughter never went out a meal it meant the same for her as it did for her classmates that weren’t as  lucky. Two more CHILDREN from her home were murdered, and twenty-one more in the nation. The truth was almost sickening than watching their deaths televised for entertainment.                             By this time it was nearly an instinct, it was innate. She’d praise the newest victor, perhaps even make small talk, and then the Capitol would gain a new play toy. When she was younger, this was fun. A GAME of sorts but after learning of her aunts association with the event, it began to lose the ignorant amusement that once came with it.         ❛ Congratulations, ❜ She said with stiffness in her voice, making her way to boy only two years older than she. ❛ I’m sure you’re hearing that a lot today but I thought it was only right. I brought you some water. It’s not good to make a speech with a dry throat. ❜

The Victory Tour was underway at its first stop, and Alex couldn’t have been more eager to get the entire thing over and done with. After the speech in District 12, he was that much closer to being back home, where he could go back to living quietly and stay out of the lime light for the next few months. After all, with so many victors from his District over the years, he could easily fade into the background, especially since so many people in the Capitol had been bored watching the Games. No one would remember him for displays of savagery and power, only for being able to outlast the elements while the other tributes froze to death.  Which apparently was boring to the ravenous bourgeois in the Capitol, who wanted gore and violence with their deaths. How lovely.

  At least the speech part was easy: read the cards and look somber. Done and done. He just had to get out there and actually do it. Easier said than done.

Girls From District 12; Madge Undersee, Delly Cartwright, Katniss Everdeen

soo... i’m going to put this under the cut because i’m kinda scared to make this post but i was hoping i could get feedback on the idea of an asain madge undersee and a largely asain merchant class in twelve. you don’t have to read everything! i just have my reasons for i both like & am unsure about the idea below the cut. i would really love some opinions! 

so to start: this is who i would plan on using as madge undersee. i’ve liked the idea for a couple of years now but have always been way to shy and nervous to suggest it.

i really like soo joo park as madge undersee because she looks distant and withdrawn without being shy. i interpret antisocial-ness as being distant rather than the Shy Girl TM, but anyways////

there are a few reasons why i love the idea of district twelve’s merchant class being largely asain but i also understand that there are a few reasons why it may be better to stray from the concept. i’ll list both reasons.

R E A S O N S   I   L I K E   T H E    I D E A : 1. i think it could be a really amazing way to show the levels of privilege in society in a way that mirrors our own society. (similar to that buzzfeed video. with the darker skinned (she was black) homosexual women experiencing most discrimination and the white straight man experiencing the least with other)   2. in my personal headcanon the population of the capitol was largely white and i think the poorest district’s being largely poc could be really powerful. and also interesting to see the issue of classes within their private society. 3. it would be great for diversity. i’ve rarely seen asain faceclaims in this fandom and i think it’s time.

R E A S O N S    I    A M    C A U T I O U S    A B O U T    T H I S    I D E A : 1. i’m worried that within katniss’ arc having a poc holding a tremendous amount of privilege it’ll ruin the tropes that lie within district 12 in regards to the comparisons of class and race in terms of privilege, even if it would have a strong message considering all of panem.

any feedback would be amazing!! i’m not really sure if this is a good idea but it’s something i’ve wanted to at least consider for yEARS. i’m not sure if soo joo park would be my fc for madge undersee if i did do this (considering soo joo park is a model, and i wouldn’t want to have entirely faceless icons) but i just... ya!! let me know please i would love you for it!

               Beneath the ground the ceilings of blue that many had grown accustomed to conformed to grey tones. This was meant to be safety. It was meant to be shelter from The Capitol, for the first time. In reality though the  GUNMETAL  shades  ( walls, clothing, floors, everything. )  only worsened the depression. People weren’t meant to live a life below the earth, but you’d never catch Madge Undersee uttering those words. The fire on her home had destroyed so much, but she knew that her PRIVILEGE lingered in the ashes. This was a better life than many had lived thus far.               Blue eyes  ( wide, but empty. )  bounce around the room, since arriving in Thirteen lunch had never been a comfortable time of day. Many people in the underground sat with family, maybe friends, but Madge only felt lost in the cafeteria. She didn’t  know  many people here. Finally, her eyes fixate on another’s.  The hue’s in their eyes look to be born from FORESTS, yet at the same time a COPPICE.    J o h a n n a    M a s o n.   Of course she knew who the victor was, but with the threat of death victors blended easier with citizens.   ❛ There’s not really anywhere else to sit,  ❜   She explained in short. In reality there were a few seats open, but many were the extra places at tables full of families.  ❛  Would you mind? If I sat here?  ❜

&. Katniss Everdeen. ( @ofmockingashes ♥’D THIS )

                              Loud on her feet, Madge Undersee moves through the woodland carelessly, oxford shoes held loosely between her fingers. For just a moment, fleeting and quick, her breath pauses allowing her to listen to buzz created by various amounts of bugs as leaves crunch beneath her bare feet. Every so often she feels a sharp sting in her heel from the pine needles that rested just below her skin. To her though, this is worth it. Though it may not be a comfortable walk, there’s something INTOXICATING about feeling the fresh dew on the grass squishing between your toes. She’s been to the woods a few times before  ( accompanied by Katniss, as the darker haired girl attempts to teach her how to shoot a bow )  and though she realizes that she’s become thoroughly lost she doesn’t plan on searching for the exit anytime soon. It’s not until she hears a sigh behind her that she realizes she’s not alone in these woods, she drops her shoes at her feet and turns in an instant. The look on her face can only be described as a dear caught in the headlights, but once she recognizes her friend the scared look drifts from her features.  ❛ Katniss I —  ❜ She stutters for an explanation, but there’s only the TRUTH. ❛ I just wanted to see the trees again. ❜

                               Gentle eyes look over to her to the fellow blonde, but no words flow out of her mouth. Normally small talk with the nations newest celebrity would be simple. An effortless   ‘ congratulations, our District was stunned by your talent. ’. The task was innate, inborn with everything she was and everything she’d learnt. Now though, for the first time in her life, the victor was from her HOME. There was no possible way for her to uphold the act she put on annually and the silence that filled the room was OVERWHELMING, every breath stentorian.  ❛ I guess we won’t be seeing you at school anymore, ❜  She said finally, after what felt like an eternity.  ❛ We’re all really glad it was BOTH of you that won. ❜
