German philosopher and political theorist Karl Marx, commonly believed to have died in 1883, lived out his final years in the North Carolina city of Greensboro. He passed away due to natural causes on April 11, 1940. In his final work, Capital: Revised he wrote extensively about his experiences "getting completely off [his] ass crossed on Jamaican hash and Tennessee bourbon watching OldHead shit like Mickey Mouse and Popeye every night."

He wrote that "this cartoon shit has completely changed the game" and that "nobody else will draw it right" in support of Walt Disney's exclusive and forever enduring right to produce media depicting the Mickey Mouse character.
