Probably on his phone and getting it all delivered, because a small square of deadened bright glow is more comfortable on his eyes than a grocery store's overhead lights.

...or so he tells himself, anyway.

He hates grocery shopping.

Prompt: How about a moment where Zazu catches Scar being an affectionate uncle when he thinks no one's looking?

"It hurts," Simba sniffles petulantly. "It hurts so bad."

"And you're so brave," Scar murmurs, winding a bright yellow bandage over his nephew's finger. "That is such a nasty wound you've sustained. Why, I ought to tell your dear father to outlaw all filing cabinets in this place. The sheer nerve, I call it, the gall that drawer had to go and bite you like that. We simply must get you some medicine. Hmmm… why don't we go and ask Shenzi if she has any sweets in her bag?"

Trying very hard to remain inconspicuous from behind the half-open door, Zazu experiences a brief but monumental struggle with himself.

Biting his lip only works for so long.

"I thought Sarabi had outlawed anything from Shenzi's bag," he blurts out, finally.

Scar inhales, very slowly, though his nose, without looking up.

"Sanctimonious as ever, Zazu. Why don't you run along and tell our fearless leader about the deadly injury his son has acquired?"

Simba inspects the neon badge of courage on his finger before sniffling again and holding it to his uncle's face.

Scar hesitates only for a moment before brushing it with his lips.

If Scar hadn't arrived in time and Tabaqui had actually done something to Zazu (God forbid that happens) what would have been the outcome of the story if that had happened?

Scar would have hit Tabaqui's head much, much harder into the floor.

Repeatedly. And with great force.

And things would go very badly for everyone else involved.

Can we see more snippets from those moments you mentioned a while ago where Scar helps, rescues or supports Zazu?

Ah, with Tabaqui. He got into trouble for that.

Mufasa didn’t buy the 'twisted ankle' story, but he did send Scar a sharp, inquiring look over Zazu's head.

Later, Scar mouths.

Share Khan's eyes narrow.

Not a lot gets done for the remainder of the afternoon.

Zazu is excused afterward, but he refuses to go home until the work day is properly over, and subsequently finds Ed tailing him all day for some reason.

(Tabaqui may not fear Scar, but there is not a single person who isn’t just a little apprehensive of Ed.)

Things would… continue, but not quite as smoothly.

Mufasa would be somewhat less efficient.

And certain others would be bored.

What does Scar & Mufasa think of the KFP villains in your AU?

Mufasa doesn't interact with them much, but he sees Tai Lung on occasion; they've had some pleasant and interesting chats. Scar and Tai Lung are quite close, as friends and client/masseuse, and Shen’s always up for sparring and gossiping over tea. Kai and Chameleon... not sure.

Also, Kaa took a very-long-overdue nap after working for fourteen hours straight on an accounting problem 😊 and Baloo's been training in some new employees!

"You," Scar says finally, after a quarter of an hour, "have tripped in the dark and twisted your ankle."

Zazu makes an "a-akh?" sort of noise.

A glint of teeth. "Oh yes. Which is why we are going to find that file now. And then I will help you upstairs. You're fine, of course."

"I-?"

"Yes. You’re perfectly fine. We simply needed to take a few minutes to ensure the foot was all right. Which accounts for the time spent down here."

A faint something tugs at the edge of Zazu's mouth.

He releases a ragged exhale. "Are you ever lost for an answer?"

"Not at all."

...so I had him as a former mafia/gang leader, current martial arts instructor (occasionally) in this AU, but now he only does that part-time because he is ABSOLUTELY an opera performer too

(He does both for fun because he's rich enough to do no work whatsoever if he wishes)

(He fits everything into his schedule in between hanging out with Tai Lung and lounging around the Jade Palace)

The end of Kung fu panda 2 was actually an elaborate setup so Shen could fake his death and start a second life as a successful Beijing opera performer
