Daughter of Lights: Human Expedition!

In anticipation for the next chapter update (FINALLY, amiright?) I’m posting a few ref pics and brief bios on the members of the human expedition currently chilling in Deepnest

Ace, Allegra, Lark, Lauren, and Sparks’ dreamselfy images were made by @mezzanottespazzatura​ (thank you so much for helping me make Ace look like a little more of a dick instead of an angry Captain America)

Ace

The trigger-happy leader of the expedition, more due to the fact that he had the resources to put everything together than any actual qualifying leadership skills. He’s determined to find the surviving humans that fled Aurora’s takeover, although his motives aren’t quite as altruistic as this sounds. He desires the fame that would come with such a discovery.

Lauren

The expedition’s chef, as well as a navigator while the crew were still traveling on the surface. Her journal entries documenting their trip are much more honest than some of Ace’s accounts, which tend to exaggerate and glorify his own contributions.

Allegra

When Lark was asked to join the expedition crew, her twin sister Allegra was quick to come along as well. Allegra helps with odd jobs around the camps, although she typically stays close to her sister...and insists on keeping her as far away from Ace as she can, given how close everyone is forced to be.

Lark

The expedition crew’s medic, and Ace’s ex-girlfriend, Lark is soft-spoken where her sister is assertive, and shy where Allegra is self-assured. She and Lauren are likely matched in terms of kindness, and as much as this new place frightens her, she also finds it fascinating and hopes to get the chance to document some of the new species they’ve encountered.

Sparks

Sparks is the team’s mechanic, and is one of the only drivers by his own insistence. His dry sense of humor and repertoire of pop culture references make for some fairly lighthearted company, which is a welcome addition to a group that consists of Ace and Allegra constantly butting heads.

David

Although Ace is quick to write his friend off as “hired muscle”, David is truly a kind soul who, like Lark, also wants to help make fantastic discoveries. He’s been collecting geodes as the expedition travels along underground, and generally tries to keep out of things when fights start breaking out.

DoL Update!!!

Hi everyone! Chapter 13 is up and posted!

I’ve got a double-update for you guys, partially because these chapters are kinda fillers before we start getting into the good shit, and also partially as an apology for taking so damn long to finish them in the first place!!

In light of Chapter 9 of DoL, I figured I should give a visual to go along with all these descriptors! I'm super proud of how the nail turned out, but please just...disregard my disregard of Drawing Proper Human Anatomy™ ^^;

Ghost ended up being a bit shorter that I wanted; I threw in the (completely arbitrary) decision that they're roughly 2 feel tall, while Alexis is around 5 feet tall.

The next two DoL chapters are more fillers than anything (specifically this next chapter but meh). With that being said, I'm probably going to hold off on updating until both chapters are done. It's a sort of compensation for not having much going on as far as plot progression is concerned.

Chapter 8 is officially up!! I was closer to the end than I originally thought.

The next Daughter of Lights chapter is...slow-going, I’ll admit. But I’m almost finished, it should be posted by Monday!!

“Your art isn’t valued by the number of notes you get” okay but. If you spent 6 hours baking a cake for a party, but no one at the party eats your cake, it’s still disappointing.

What I find really odd about fanfic in general is that you can almost tell what kind of a person is writing it, you know?? Like some people are really poetic in their descriptions, some people almost drown in the feelings they write, others create dialogue that flows so well it feels like you’re watching real people discuss things in front of your eyes… I just really love that aspect of it, and I love placing writers in a kind of “hey look they’re a descriptions/feelings/dialogue kind of person” box so to speak. It’s such a pleasure reading it when it’s written so individually

Bear in mind that in addition to being an AU wrapped in pure self-indulgence, this is technically a self-insert story. But if you don’t know much about me you probably won’t even really notice, tbh.

Since I Am A Fool™ who can’t manage to get pictures uploaded on ao3, I’ll just post some stuff here for Daughter of Lights (Which you can find here!)

The first is an image of the vessels I’ll be referring to by name the most–Hollow and Ghost are up there, of course, as well as my names for the Greenpath vessel and the Broken Vessel/Lost Kin. There’s also plenty of fan vessels @mezzanottespazzatura and I created for a Discord rp. I’ll be fleshing out each of their personalities more and more in chapters to come, but to be honest they’re ALL good void children as it is.

Second pic is just what I imagine baby!Alexis looks–that’s probably the exact expression she has when she calls Radiance “Radi” or “Momma” for the first time and it’s all the moth can do to not die of cute. (Unfortunately I lost the post with the link to the dollmaker so if anyone knows it please hmu so I can add it here!!)

And the last? Aurora, the Beetch (Bee Bitch) herself, another deity and also a creation of both myself and Mezz. I don’t do digital art very often and this pic is a couple months old, buuut it’s the only way I could even hope to get the wings all iridescent. This was also done before I remembered she’s supposed to have a robe/gown/what-have-you, so she’s technically nakey here, whoops. Don’t bring it up, she’ll brainwash you.
