This is one of the most amazing shots I've ever seen. The transition from horizontal to vertical to horizontal, from outdoors to indoors to outdoors, all while not losing focus on the procession flag is just...I can't even comprehend how incredible this is.
This 'impossible' crane shot from Mikhail Kalatozov's SOY CUBA (1964) ...
IS the greatest and quite remarkable one shot scene of them all.

I have a whole story (in development) about a mech gaining a sense of self, literally going through the existential crisis to come through the other side as a fully awakened person...
while in the middle of a major battle. And in the battle, the mech loses focus, which leads to the pilot getting killed and an autonomous system taking over. The mech is entirely absorbed with how wonderful self realization is and marveling at all of that and getting excited about the future with the pilot. It's hella depressing and one of the most compelling story ideas I've had. All to say, absolutely agree with OP. Sentient mechs rock.
I really love the idea of sentient mechs because of all the unique relationships they have with their pilots. You can have mechs that refuse to let their pilot go because they love them so much, mechs that sacrifice themselves to make sure their pilot lives, or even mechs that hate the atrocities their pilot is forcing them to commit and will happily turn on them if given the chance. My favourite is a mech who remembers all their past pilots and has vowed not to make the same mistakes with the new one.

I'm furious about these responses. People need to read more black women authors.
hello fellow non-Black tumblr users. welcome to my saw trap. if you'd like to leave, please name one (1) Black woman author who is not Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, bell hooks, Octavia Butler, or N.K. Jemisin. bonus points if she's published a book in the last five years.
#Nnedi Okorafor is right there#Death of the Author#is so damn good#everyone should read Death of the Author right now#especially in physical form which enhances the work#or what about Madiba Dennie#the Originalism Trap is excellent and relaly accessible legal scholarhsip

Mine is so boring as an AO3, but absolutely would be the plot of an indie game released in the last half of the 2010s.
As an indie game, it's a 2D/3D puzzle platformer where you are chasing after your queer roommate who has been kidnapped by the big bad evil creature through a variety of levels that represent your long friendship only to go through the grief of a romance that won't happen, acceptance, and growth in love for the relationship you do have which comes out stronger at the other end.
Also there is a boss challenge speed run mode and achievements.
You have just been magically transported into a random ao3 fic!
Spin the wheel of ao3 tags three times to find out what your fic is about. Put in the tags what your fic tags are!

The YouTube channel anti-chef always adds an extra bay leaf to recipes that call for it and he says “and add another one. I’m not driving” and this has permanently altered my vocabulary.
Every time I add something extra to a recipe I say that now. Add another clove of garlic, I’m not driving. Let’s have two eggs, I’m not driving. Let’s double the chili flakes, I’m not driving.
