I chose this song because I am feeling very down lately. I think my relationship with John is at it’s end or nearing it but I do not want to lose him. I want him to see that I am here for him and I would marry him if he asked. This song is relatable because it is what I have been feeling inside.

Song 11-My life is falling apart

“Rolling in the Deep” by Adele.

John is starting to act different lately and he complained about the food for the first time ever. Somebody tells me they’ve seen him at a restaurant with another woman. This pushed me over the edge and is the main reason why I am here today. I want to work this out but I have never gone through something like this before. I just want him to pay attention to me.

I resonate with this song because my relationship with John is not working for me. I feel like I am being used but continue to let him use me because I love him.  I do not feel like myself anymore either and am afraid of what i may do.

When John and I first met, I fell in love instantly. But I can’t say the same for John. Very early on in our relationship he would come over to eat the dinner I cooked him. We would engage in friends with benefits, but I was longing for something more. I wanted to get married. I thought that our platonic relationship would make him happy and want to marry me.

I chose this song because I was at a point in my life where I felt I was maturing and learning to handle certain situations better. I thought I had my life all figured out until I met someone and as the song says “the start of nothing”. My life would only go downhill from here.

I chose this song because I relate to it’s themes of feeling stressed out from working. I had gotten my first job to take my mind off my breakup. I did my best to become distracted but it barely helped.

I chose this song because it is about a breakup. My breakup with my first ever boyfriend left me feeling like I was never good enough. No matter how hard I tried to make him happy, I was the one to blame for everything that went wrong according to him.

I chose this song because it brings me back to being a teenager who fell in love with a boy for the first time. It was a rollercoaster of ups and downs as it was my very first relationship so it was very new to me.

This song reminds me of my childhood because the lyric "nothing is real". As a kid I would make up ideal scenarios in my head about my future jobs, relationships, etc. None of that was real yet because I was only a kid.

I chose this song because it brings me back to the feeling of what life was like for me when I was younger. It is all about the innocence of being a young kid. I made so many great memories with friends that i will never forget.

Intro (Psychologist POV)

Mary is a new patient of mine. She has informed me of her struggle with being a people pleaser most of her life. I gave her an assignment that I feel will help find where this stems from. The following slides is what she came up with.

Mary's Mix By: Caitlin M

(using the character Mary from Happy Endings by Margaret Atwood)

NOTE: Some of the scenarios I came up with do not exist in the story. As a reader I am only given insight to Mary's life as an adult, so I felt the need to come up with situations I could see her character going through. For the situations that did happen in the story, I incorporated quotations to support why I chose the songs that I did. I will also be focusing on ‘Scenario B’ from the story.
