every scifi writer: in 2025 the machines are smarter than anyone thinks they are
real-life 2025 horror: everyone thinks the machines are smarter than they are
#for the NPC dialogue#to be this responsive to the player then this is using AI that has to be exploitive to the voice actors and that's not even touching what's#going on with the script writer#oh my gosh#i was reading an older ya novel where the protag gets stuck in a VR simulation and all i could think about was like#and its so fascinating because back in the early 2000s when this was published#i don't think anyone would have been thinking about the ramifications of AI in art and how far is too far#in a video game#(because i know there's the ai that moves the characters and that's what makes a game a game but like if we're talking dialogue and voice#that is confined to what the developers and voice actors can provide we get into the grey areas)#but anyway a book that would have delighted me before AI slop was only leaving me disgruntled and uncomfortable due to current reality#also the main character was being driven around in a self driving car#as a way to show how technologically advanced the world is and im sitting here with a waymo driving down my street like#How has it come to this#also a main theme was people trying to “protect” children from video games and stories ended up being the ones who got the mc stuck#in the game through breaking the VR set she was using through a violent protest#so like#haunting experience overall in how people have not changed and the cool technology we were anticipating is not how we hoped.

a bad show? that's nothing? a good show? sure. but a bad show that, for a brief moment, becomes very good, and then never is again? that'll drive a person to madness

setting up a tiny detail in one chapter to pay it off in the next few chapters feels sooo devious like oooh i can't wait to write the small little reference here that 70% of readers will miss but 30% of readers will cheer for

i keep wondering if i should watch "wicked" but i actually don't have to because i already saw that time kristin chenoweth's life was changed onstage by the voice teacher she pulled out of the audience to sing "for good" in 2013

Contrary to popular belief the biggest beginner's roadblock to art isn't even technical skill it's frustration tolerance, especially in the age of social media. It hurts and the frustration is endless but you must build the frustration tolerance equivalent to a roach's capacity to survive a nuclear explosion. That's how you build on the technical skill. Throw that "won't even start because I'm afraid it won't be perfect" shit out the window. Just do it. Just start. Good luck.

Why are you using chatgpt to get through college. Why are you spending so much time and money on something just to be functionally illiterate and have zero new skills at the end of it all. Literally shooting yourself in the foot. If you want to waste thirty grand you can always just buy a sportscar.

The worst characters are the ones were you only get like three pieces of lore about them but the lore is so fascinating and hits your brain at just the right angle to have you behaving like a feral dog in front of your conspiracy theory cork board

big fan of when businesses have signs that preemptively thank you for following a rule. "thank you for respecting our staff" "thank you for not smoking in the bus station." etc. its a passive aggressive power move and it works on me every time. i mean i wasn't even PLANNING on direspecting the staff but now i'm extra not gonna. they thanked me already. i've been checkmated.

It's kind of unfathomable how much I *need* to write vs. how much readers *need* to read. Which is to say it's like I have a whole pile of rocks which all took a lot of work to gather and find, but the only thing impressive about them is the 5 ounces of gold hidden within them and if I don't get that gold out and toss the rocks, all the hard work is underwhelming and more akin to like a kid finding a sparkly rock in a yard like oh cool!! It's so pretty and im so glad it sparks your imagination! Only you care about it tho. Doesn't matter how much you know the gold is in there, no one spares a second glance until you refine that rock and toss everything but the gold.
#rose and rambles#and by unfathomable i mean i feel exhaustion deep within my bones#this ended up being a more defeated version of the whisper of the heart geode metaphor#whoops#okay hear me out tho#ive sort of been alone in the figuring out the refining process.#God im so alone in the refining process#you know how many times ive rewritten the same story beginning?#and when i feel good about it finally and think oh!!! this is perfect!!! i like#i cant do anything with it#i cant do anything with it but keep writing alone#sorry ill probably delete later i JUST NEED#TO VENT#WITHOUT WRITING PEOPLE TRYING TO MINIMIZE MY FRUSTRATIONS AND BE LIKE ALL CONDESCENDING#ARG
