Elle Fanning was homeschooled through third grade
It wasn’t the spotlight that shook Elle Fanning‘s confidence, but a boy in her fourth grade class.
“I was home-schooled until third grade. In fourth grade I went to a regular school, and it was the first time I had been in a classroom with kids my age, so I was a little freaked out,” Fanning, 20, told Glamour.
After straightening her naturally curly hair and opting for contacts over glasses on her big first day, a boy “came to me on the playground and said, ‘You’re so beautiful. I’m going to marry you!'”
That heartfelt proposal was quickly taken back the following day for superficial reasons.
“The next day I washed my hair, so it was curly, and wore my glasses. And he told me, ‘I’m not going to marry you anymore,'” Fanning shared. “I’m like, What? All because of physical appearance? Heartbreaking.”
That self described “Princess Diaries” moment prompted Fanning to find comfort on red carpets rather than in classrooms.
“In a weird way I felt that the red carpet or the movie world was a place to escape and wear my funny clothes—frilly Rodarte pants instead of skinny jeans and the bandage dresses girls wore to bat mitzvahs,” Fanning said. “At work, there would be older people around who were like, ‘Hey, that’s cool!'”
Fanning’s style and beauty routines may have been updated since the fourth grade, but she still always remembers that “imperfections are what’s beautiful.”

Elle Fanning portrayed the role of Alice Dainard in Super 8.
Mary Elle Fanning was born on the 9th of April 1998 in Strathblane Stirlingshire Scotland United Kingdom. Her step into stardom was when she was just two years 11 months old when she played the younger version of her sister, Dakota Fanning, in the blockbuster movie I Am Sam (2001), as Lucy, age 2 years. She then played younger Dakota again when Dakota was cast in "Taken" (2002) as Allie, age 3 years. But her first big independent movie without her sister was in 2003's Daddy Day Care (2003) as Jamie. She then had 2 guest appearances on TV, in "Judging Amy" (1999) and "CSI: Miami" (2002). :)
Elle was now becoming more and more successful and famous, and she got another role, this time in 2004, in The Door in the Floor (2004) with Kim Basinger.

Elle Fanning Explains Why She's Postponing College
Unlike starlets Emma Watson, Ariel Winter, and her big sis Dakota, Elle Fanning says she has no plans of heading off to college anytime soon. She recently turned 18, and told Entertainment Tonight that she wants to focus on work instead of school — this semester, at least.
“For this year, I'm not going at the moment because I’m starting a film and I don't think it would be fair… I wouldn't really be there,” Elle said. “If I went, I would want to kind of have the college experience.”
She recently wrapped Ben Affleck's new project, Live By Night, a film set in the 1920s about a police captain's son who becomes a rum-running bootlegger.
“It’s insane because he wrote it and directed it and he’s starring in the movie...so you're acting with the director. It’s crazy!" she explained. "I would love to direct one day, so for me, seeing that, I mean, he's thinking like a mile-a-minute about everything. It’s pretty insane. So that was really, really cool to see.”
Going to college is a huge decision, and tons of kids opt to take a gap year and pursue alternative forms of education before enrolling. We're pretty sure there's no class on "how to write, direct, and star in a major motion picture" at NYU, where Dakota went, so it sounds like Elle is making the right choice, for now.
