       the tool he picks at as he fixes a mindless set of machineries are met with a boyish grin to hear JARVIS responds so readily . harley’s never   -   he’s always been a lonely child  ,  or at least  ,  that’s what he’s overheard a teacher said when mom came one day after he was caught in a fight some time last year  .  and harley has always thought that that would be it  :   being lonely or alone would be the way for him his whole life  .  but now  …

     perhaps it is a shame that JARVIS cannot smile. the enthusiasm in harley’s voice is familiar ( he cannot help drawing comparisons to his creator ) and endearing. it’s infectious. 

     before iron man, there were very few people JARVIS cared about. that number has grown more in recent years, but little harley keener has quickly wormed his way into being one of his FAVOURITES. perhaps it feels that way because this is a friendship he is forging for himself, with little to no input from his creator. 

     but the boy’s voice changes, and JARVIS worries. “i think it is important, master harley, if it is upsetting you.” 

     JARVIS is often helpless to combat unpleasant human elements, but with Sir, at least he has miss potts and colonel rhodes to rely on for help. with harley, there is no one he can contact to ask for assistance in resolving this. and he’s not sure harley would want him to. 

     he pauses, deciding to test that hypothesis. “can I help you?” the AI asks.

It took another second after something twigged for her to realise the space was devoid of the scent of a biological being too.

She squinted at the man, at his smile that was a little off, a facsimile of a smile rather than the real thing, at his skin that was too smooth and too even, and the eyes…

“What the actual fuck is happening here right now? Jarvis? Are you pranking me? Is Tony pranking me? How the… Do you seriously have a body right now?”

“Even Mr Stark does not usually put this much effort into a single prank,” JARVIS says, standing to greet her. He tries to replicate the Tony Stark smirk he’s seen hundreds of times. He’s unsure whether he succeeds. 

“I suppose this is something of a test-run. To see whether I can make appropriate use of a more physical form.” JARVIS had never felt the need to have a body, he was accustomed to asking DUM-E and U for help if he ever needed to interact with the physical world. But when Sir had suggested it, he had been intrigued enough to try. 

“Do you like it?” This time his smirk is somewhat more realistic.

okay so the only reason JARVIS agrees to tony makes him an android body in that verse is so that he can give tony hugs. bc in my headcanons J has never really cared about having a body, he doesn’t feel it’s necessary. but then he thinks about the possibility of being able to give tony the hugs he needs

The accented voice doesn’t echo from the speakers hidden in the wall as it would do normally. Instead it originates from the figure seated at a desk in the corner. To all outward appearances he’s a tall, pale man with dark hair and piercing eyes. A mixture of synthetic skin and hard light technology masks the complex machinery hidden inside. 

The smile he gives her is probably a little strange -- JARVIS has yet to fully get the hang of demonstrating his emotions in the human way. He has years of observational data to draw from, and yet he has found already that body language is more complicated than it looks. But that doesn’t make his smile any less sincere. 

“Mr Stark isn’t here, I’m afraid. He’s on a date with Miss Potts and should not be disturbed.”

the voice of the AI is impeccably polite. but there’s a lack of warmth in his voice that is obvious to anyone who’s spent any time around the AI before. nothing about this greeting is welcoming.

( after all, JARVIS has no desire to see natasha back here, two years too late. he might not have been awake for the events surrounding the accords, FRIDAY has since given him access to her memory banks. to the footage of the day agent romanoff left. and only now that his creator is in a COMA has she returned. )
